Irish sporting legends recall the glory days to help raise €12,000 for charity
Around €12,000 was raised for charity as sporting legends came together for a good cause.
Paralympic gold medallist Ellen Keane, former Republic of Ireland footballer Niall Quinn, ex-Ireland rugby international Shane Byrne, and Kilkenny hurling legend Tommy Walsh kept crowds entertained during a charity lunch at the InterContinental Dublin.
The star-studded panel recounted stories of days gone by and answered questions as part of a Q&A, all in aid of the Cappagh Hospital Foundation.
The event on Friday, May 16 brought together generous donors, supporters, and friends of the foundation for an afternoon of inspiration, entertainment and fundraising.
MC and auctioneer Barry Murphy hosted a live auction and raffle, with standout prizes including a signed Masters flag from champion golfer Rory McIlroy, VIP tickets to Oasis, All-Ireland final tickets, a luxury trip to Cannes, and flights for two to Chicago to see Ireland take on the All Blacks in October.
A show-stopping performance came from Brian Keville, frontman of Queen tribute band Qween and 18 months post-surgery for sarcoma. His powerful vocals and stage presence wowed the audience and served as a moving testament to the foundation's impact.
Niamh Long, board director and chair of the Fundraising Committee, spoke passionately about Brian's diagnosis and the critical role of the recently installed CT scanner - funded by the foundation - in enabling early detection.
Chair of Cappagh Hospital Foundation, Sean O'Neill, welcomed guests and thanked all who attended, recognising the incredible generosity that made the event such a success.
