Dhunseri to invest Rs 1k cr in Panagarh for 2 production lines
Kolkata: Dhunseri Group will invest Rs 1,000 crore in Panagarh, through Dhunseri Polyfilms. Group chairman CK Dhanuka said the company was planning to set up at least two more lines in Panagarh: its first BOPET (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate) and a BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene).
The films produced by these lines are mainly used for food and non-food packaging. Dhunseri already has a BOPP production line in Panagarh.
Both these lines are expected to be online by 2029, said Dhanuka. The expansion will be put up in the next board meeting for approval by Aug. The capital expenditure on these two lines is expected to be financed with a debt-to-equity ratio of 70:30. "The lines are expected to be commissioned by March 2027.
With the fresh expansion plan, DPFPL's installed capacity by the end of 2029 will be about 120,000 tonne for BOPET films and 210,000 tonne for BOPP films," added Dhanuka.
Dhunseri has its Panagarh plant at WBIDC industrial park. It also conducted a stone-laying ceremony for two BOPP plants in Jammu's Kathua earlier this month. The company also has a PET resin plant in Haldia through a joint venture with the Indo Rama Group. The JV also has plants in Egypt and Panipat.

Govt keen on promoting farm mechanisation
Nellore: Scarcity agriculture labourers when the farm operations are picking up is giving impetus to farm mechanisation in the district. Shortage of labourers, apparently due to majority of them taking up works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) is forcing more farmers to adopt farm machinery. According to sources, around five lakh farmers in the district have taken up paddy cultivation in about five lakh acres during the monsoon season. Famers observe that thousands of labourers migrated to other States as house construction workers, coupled with introduction of NREGS, lack of laborers has become a huge problem as majority of them are preferring to take up works under the job scheme than working in the fields. To overcome this problem, the State government is proposed to sanction nine varieties of instruments like rotators, cultivators, mould board ploughs, seed-cum-fertiliser drills mini tractors, inter cultivators, plant protectors etc. These instruments would be provided under cultivation budget, Rastriya Vikas Yojana, at 70 percent subsidy. Apart from this, 50 percent subsidy would be provided by the Central government while 20 per cent will be provided by the State government. As part of this initiative, district Collector O Anand has distributed 142 types of various farm instruments worth Rs 6.8 crore under farm mechanisation scheme at a programme at Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University and Agriculture Research Station (ARS) in Muthukuru Road in the city on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Collector Anand has said the aim of the government in encouraging farm mechanisation is to ease the farmers from the burden of labour and securing better profits with less investments. District Agriculture Officer P Satyavani has said under these schemes farmers should farm groups to purchase heavy instruments like paddy translators, harvesters, power weeders, brush cutters etc as the government is keen on providing farm instruments at very low cost offering subsidies in a big way.

Gold vs Silver: Gold Tops Rs 1L, Silver Hits 13-Yr High; Which Is The Better Bet Now?
Last Updated: Gold vs Silver: Year-to-date, Gold and silver are up by 30 per cent and 26 per cent, respectively. Gold Vs Silver: The rising geopolitical uncertainty and slowdown of global economy triggered by continuous conflicts, including the trade war, India-Pakistan conflict and now Iran-Israel war has turned investors to look for safe haven: bullion like gold and silver. Gold and silver prices rallied in the first half of 2025, hitting record highs due to high demand among global investors. The jitteriness and volatility in the stock market for the past one year has also exacerbated investors' flight to these safe assets. Silver hit 13-year high to touch at Rs 1,12,000 per kg, largely driven by middle-east crisis. Meanwhile, gold also crossed Rs 1-lakh mark per 10 gram for 24-carat because of continuous buying by central banks over the geopolitical uncertainty. Year-to-date, Gold and silver are up by 30 per cent and 26 per cent, respectively. In comparison, India's top indices, including Sensex and Nifty are 3.64 per cent and 4.42 per cent, respectively. According to Satish Dondapati, VP and Fund Manager at Kotak AMC, both gold and silver hit record highs in June 2025, boosted by geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainties, and strong industrial demand. Silver, on the other hand, continues its upward trend, driven by supply constraints and growing industrial and safe-haven demand, he added. Aksha Kamboj, Vice President of IBJA and Executive Chairperson of Aspect Global Ventures, said that gold crossed Rs 1 lakh per 10 grams and silver rallied above Rs 1.07 lakh per kg in mid-June. She attributed this surge to geopolitical tensions and a recovery in industrial metal demand. Dondapati noted that while gold has recently pulled back due to the U.S. Federal Reserve's hawkish stance and lower bond yields, prices are likely to stay firm amid continued global risks, central bank buying, and a weakening dollar. Despite falling jewelry bookings and fabrication — down by around 40% — investment interest is shifting towards lighter ornaments, digital gold, and ETFs, said Kamboj. She also highlighted that gold and silver remain essential hedges during uncertain times, with central banks continuing to accumulate gold as a reserve asset. First Published:
