I will cherish double century in Birmingham forever: Gill after winning ICC award
Gill, who was inspirational both as a batter and skipper, led from the front with four hundreds as a young Indian team without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma drew 2-2 against England.
The Indian skipper, who won the award ahead of his England counterpart Ben Stokes and South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, said he was hoping to continue his good form in the season ahead.
"It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July. This time it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England," Gill was quoted as saying in an ICC media release.
"The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both sides will remember for a long time.'
The 25-year-old skipper is hopeful that he can continue his good form in the upcoming series.
"I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me during the course of this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bring more laurels for the country."
Gill became the first male player to win the 'Player of the Month' award four times after a stupendous run in England saw him score 567 runs (out of 754 runs) at an average of 94.50 in the three Tests played in July.
His previous ICC Player of the Month awards were in January 2023, September 2023 and February 2025.
The highlight for Gill during this period was his aggregate of 430 runs in the second Test in Birmingham, the second highest ever in a Test match.
His scores of 269 and 161 in that Test helped India level the series 1-1. He also chipped in with a useful 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test in Manchester that helped draw the match and keep the series alive.
Apart from Gill, England batter Sophia Dunkley was adjudged women's 'Players of the Month'.
England batter Dunkley edged her team-mate Sophie Ecclestone and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis for the honour, showing a fine run during this period in ODIs as well as T20Is.
She played in all seven matches at home against India across the two formats, aggregating 270 runs in three ODIs and four T20Is.
Dunkley was England's leading scorer in the T20I series and smashed a superb 92-ball 83 in the first ODI in Southampton.

ED records Raina's statement in illegal betting probe
New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday recorded the statement of cricketer Suresh Raina in connection with its larger money laundering probe against several illegal online betting platforms, which use multiple platforms for surrogate advertisements and collect funds from their users, officials said. Raina's statement was recorded under the prevention of money laundering act (PMLA) for endorsing a sports betting app, which indulged in illegal practices. An officer, without naming the player, said 'another former Indian cricketer has also been asked to appear before the agency.' ED is calling several celebrities to understand their links with the betting apps, any endorsement fee earned and the mode of communication between them. Earlier, the agency had called the representatives of Google and Meta for questioning as part of this probe. The financial crimes probe agency is probing multiple illegal online betting platforms and has questioned tech firms, media houses' representatives who have received money in the form of advertisements from them. Several platforms hosting illegal betting and gambling links, including instances of advertisements placed for them on various social media outlets and app stores, are under the ED scanner. In 2023, the Union ministry of information and broadcasting issued four advisories to newspapers, broadcast news channels, entertainment channels, publishers of online news and current affairs content, online advertisement intermediaries (like Google and Facebook), and social media platforms to not advertise online betting platforms. Despite these instructions from the Centre, eminent personalities in the field of entertainment and sports endorsed them. These actors and sportspersons are also under the ED's scanner and they could be summoned soon, according to an ED officer. According to the information gathered by ED over the past several months, multiple betting platforms, which have been banned over the years, still run their operations by changing names and are promoted by celebrities and social media influencers. 'These platforms are in violation of multiple laws and directions by the Indian government, including tax evasion, money laundering, and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) as money is transferred out of the country illegally. It is estimated that around 220 million Indian users are currently engaged on various betting apps, and 110 million of these are regular users,' said the officer. In just the first three months of 2025, more than 1.6 billion visits were recorded on illegal betting websites or apps and it is suspected that the online betting market in India might be worth around $100 million, the first ED officer said. 'The estimates also suggest that top betting apps are evading ₹27,000 crore in taxes every year,' the officer said. The government has issued 1,524 blocking orders against illegal gambling websites and mobile apps between 2022 and June 2025, as revealed in a response from the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) in the ongoing monsoon session.

Venkatesh Iyer's IPL 2025 season with Kolkata Knight Riders was dismal by his standards. When you are with your team, you tend to enjoy the moment. But yeah, I understood that if the amount is big, the ask is big, the responsibility is big. Responsibility is not just in terms of runs to be scored or wickets to be picked, it's about the role in the team and how you can create a bigger impact. So I did have that in mind. Also, with regard to my preparation, nothing changes. Be it ₹20 lakh or ₹20 crore, preparation won't change. You have to do double the hard work as the previous year, regardless of the money. That day was very hectic but, post that, things were kind of back to normal.' Many fans questioned the ₹23.75 crore figure, piling on unnecessary pressure. His response is simple: 'People who had these questions are not even on my contact list. So why do I have to even think about what they are thinking? It's my life, my game, my career. And it's my team that has chosen to spend so much on me. So these things don't phase me... there are a lot of eyes on you, but it's important to know what to pay heed to. People who have had a direct impact on my life, I am answerable to only them.' Support From KKR Management According to Iyer, KKR shielded him from much of the noise: 'They know the magnitude of it, obviously from experience... They have made a team, they wanted the team to do well, and I am part of a team. And it is my duty to do well for them. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. But my aim is always to try and win as many games as possible for KKR.' He also sees the price tag as recognition of his journey: 'I would like to think so. But it's not about just the money, it's about where I fit in their scheme of things. Venky sir once told me something, which I felt made a lot of sense. He said, 'At the end of the day, you are given 120 units to build a team. Once the team is built, it doesn't matter how many units you have spent on what. It is a team that has been made now, that's it.'
