Bengaluru: Nischith's parents didn't inform cops about ransom call for 7 hours
After Nischith didn't return home from tuitions Wednesday night, his parents filed a missing police complaint around 10.30pm Wednesday. When the boy's mother received a call between 1.15am and 1.30am from a phone number listed abroad, a wave of panic gripped the distraught couple in the middle of the night.
The miscreant, speaking in Hindi, claimed he had kidnapped their son and demanded a ransom of Rs 5 lakh for his release.
The panicked parents agreed to pay the money and requested for a safe release of their son.

The miscreant told the parents he would inform them about the location in the morning and disconnected the call. In the long, suspense-filled interregnum, the parents didn't update the police about the ransom call until 8am Thursday.
For the record, kidnap and ransom were the gory chapters the two main suspects added to the grisly drama they had scripted in a desperate bid to delay the inevitable: Of having to face the law and the men in khaki.

A top police officer said that had the family informed police immediately about the ransom call, they could have acted swiftly in making attempts to nab the accused.
Police said the kidnap-murder drama should serve as an eye-opener and urged parents to teach their children to not blindly trust strangers and to not go with fairly familiar people without informing parents.
In extreme cases of kidnap and parents getting ransom calls, a police officer requested parents to not panic and immediately inform the jurisdictional police station about such calls so that officers can act without losing time and save lives from a likely tragedy.

A newlywed & a lone breadwinner: 2 Punjab bravehearts lay down their lives fighting terrorists in Kashmir's Kulgam
1 2 3 4 Ludhiana/Fatehgarh Sahib: Punjab is mourning the two Armymen killed in the Kulgam anti-terrorist encounter on Saturday -- Lance Naik Pritpal Singh, 28, and Sepoy Harminder Singh, 26, of Sikh Light Infantry. Both of them were deployed in anti-terror ops with 19 Rashtriya Rifles. Pritpal was married barely six months ago and Harminder was the sole breadwinner for his family, supporting his parents and a mentally-ailing sister. Both soldiers were engaged in fierce combat since Aug 1 when the operation was launched -- it's already the longest encounter in the Valley this year. Hailing from Manupur village in Khanna, Pritpal joined Army in 2015 right after passing his class 12 board exam, said his elder brother, Harpreet. According to the Army, Pritpal was fatally wounded by splinters when a hiding terrorist lobbed a hand grenade at him. "We got a call at 5.30am today from one of his buddies. He said Pritpal was wounded, and started crying. An hour later, a call came from his unit officers who said he had been martyred fighting terrorists," said Harpreet, adding, "He was married on Feb 24 and returned to duty in April." Manupur village is in mourning. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Private Jet - The Prices May Surprise You! Today his officers called to say he went down fighting." "He was supposed to come home on leave at the end of this month and again after Diwali," the elder brother said. Pritpal came from a fauji family. Two of his uncles were also in the Army. Homage will be paid to him at his unit and then flown to Halwara airport, a member of the local ex-Serviceman association, Captain Harjinder Singh (retd), said. It will be brought to Manupur, 80km away, by road and he will be cremated with full honours. Sepoy Harminder's uncle Harbans Singh said he was due to return home in October for the marriage of his cousin (Harbans' daughter). "He had told me that he would take care of all the arrangements. Don't worry, he assured," said Harbans, adding that the family planned to arrange Harminder's wedding next. Harminder is survived by his elderly parents, a brother and a sister. "They are living in abject poverty. Harminder's father Jaswant is landless and works as a labourer. He was their lone hope," he added. Harminder had joined the Army eight years ago, driven by patriotism, and dreams of building a house — a dream that remained unfulfilled. His body is expected to reach the village on Sunday for cremation. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Joga Singh's arrest will expose more culprits in 2015 drug racket: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema
Chandigarh: Punjab finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Saturday said that the arrest of Joga Singh, a former personal security officer (PSO) of Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, marks a significant step forward in the 2015 drug racket case. Cheema alleged that the delay in the case was due to the culprits' political connections with leaders from both the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Congress. Talking to mediapersons, Cheema said Joga Singh is alleged to have played a key role in facilitating communication between Khaira and both Gurdev Singh, a convicted person in the case, and his UK-based sister, Charanjit Kaur. According to the minister, Joga Singh used his mobile phone to arrange these calls while Gurdev Singh was a fugitive. He added that call detail analysis revealed multiple instances where Joga Singh and Gurdev Singh were at the same location, even in Khaira's absence. Talking about the events leading to the arrest, Cheema said Joga Singh, who was absconding since being named an accused in a case on Sept 28, 2023, had his bail denied by both the Fazilka sessions court in Oct 2023 and the high court in Jan 2024. He was eventually detained by immigration authorities at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi while attempting to flee to Australia. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This new air conditioner cools down a room in just seconds News of the Discovery Undo His capture was facilitated by a look out circular (LoC) issued by a special investigation team (SIT) in Nov 2023.
