KLANG: The groundbreaking of the Supply Chain City Malaysia (SCC MY) project brings Malaysia a step closer to becoming Asean's premier logistics and trade hub, says Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.
Built by Singapore-based YCH Group in partnership with Sime Darby Property, the RM500mil project will feature a modern smart logistics facility in Bandar Bukit Raja.
The Investment, Trade & Industry Minister said SCC MY will include state-of-the-art automation and AI-driven logistics systems, rarely seen in the country.
"Combined with planned sustainability solutions, this project will accelerate industrial transformation through advanced supply chain solutions and logistics innovation."
"This facility will elevate Malaysia's logistics industry to a new level of global competitiveness," he said at the project's groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday (May 29).
He added that the project will train local talent for these automated systems by integrating Singapore's Learn ecosystem in collaboration with Singapore's Supply Chain and Logistics Academy (Scala).
"This will ensure our local hired talents are equipped with higher-end skills while future-proofing our supply chain ecosystem," he said.
Tengku Zafrul also said SCC MY is the first project under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and demonstrates increasing regional cooperation in Asean.
"This project embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and resilience that defines our nation and the region."
"It is a testament to our commitment to fostering sustainable growth and regional integration."
"The Government, through MITI and other relevant agencies, stands ready to support this endeavour and ensure its success," he added.
YCH Group executive chairman Robert Yap said SCC MY would set new standards of logistics excellence in the country.
"We are dedicated to training local talent, empowering them with essential skills to support Malaysia's journey to become a preferred destination for global businesses," he said.
Yap revealed that the project would integrate sustainable solutions into its operations, like renewable energy, using solar panels across the entire rooftop of the facility.
He added that YCH would also invest in local startups and help integrate them into SCC MY's planned logistic ecosystem.
Sime Darby Property group managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Azmir Merican said the project will strengthen and bring much-needed innovation to local supply chain infrastructure.
"YCH brings a strong regional portfolio that will strengthen Bandar Bukit Raja as a strategic point in the regional supply chain network."
"This project is a timely example of much-needed cross-border collaboration, aligning with the region's shared focus on economic integration, sustainable and inclusive growth."
"Through our collaboration, we hope to strengthen trade linkages, support innovation, and contribute meaningfully to broader regional priorities," he said.

Tariff, policy risks set to weigh on market in 2H25

KUALA LUMPUR: Market sentiment is expected to remain fragile heading into the second half of the year, as investors brace for a combination of external tariff risks and domestic policy shifts that could weigh on earnings and consumption. In its strategy note, CIMB Securities flagged several looming challenges that may limit upside for equities, despite supportive valuations and ample market liquidity. Chief among them is the scheduled end of the US 90-day tariff reprieve on July 9, which could see the reinstatement of elevated reciprocal tariffs between the world's two largest economies. "This adds another layer of trade friction to an already cautious global backdrop," the firm said. On the local front, investors are anticipating potential adjustments to the RON95 fuel subsidy, a move that could raise transport and logistics costs for businesses, while straining household budgets. CIMB Securities also cited the possible implementation of a higher sales and service tax and an expected increase in electricity tariffs in the second half of 2025. "Together, these measures could contribute to inflationary pressures and squeeze corporate margins," it said. "These headwinds may erode near-term earnings visibility and investor risk appetite, even as Bursa Malaysia trades at an undemanding 12.7 times forward price-to-earnings and offers a 4.2 per cent dividend yield." While acknowledging that policy reforms are necessary for long-term fiscal consolidation and subsidy rationalisation, it said the timing and communication of such measures would be critical to avoid unsettling investors. Still, the firm noted that downside risks may be partially cushioned by strong domestic liquidity and a strengthening ringgit. Additional support could come from long-term structural initiatives such as the National Energy Transition Roadmap, the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.

Coinbase breach linked to customer data leak in India, sources say

FILE PHOTO: A representation of the cryptocurrency is seen in front of the Coinbase logo in this illustration taken on March 4, 2022. REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase knew as far back as January about a customer data leak at an outsourcing companyconnected to a larger breach estimated to cost up to $400 million, six people familiar with the matter told Reuters. At least one part of the breach, publicly disclosed in a May 14 SEC filing, occurred when an India-based employee of the U.S. outsourcing firm TaskUs was caught taking photographs of her work computer with her personal phone, according to five former TaskUs employees. Three of the employees and a person familiar with the matter said Coinbase was notified immediately. The ex-employees said they were briefed on the matter by company investigators or colleagues who witnessed the incident in the Indian city of Indore, noting that the woman and a suspected accomplice were alleged to have been feeding Coinbase customer information to hackers in return for bribes. The ex-employees and person familiar with the matter said more than 200 TaskUs employees were soon fired in a mass layoff that drew Indian media attention. Coinbase had previously blamed "support agents overseas" for the breach, which it estimated could cost up to $400 million. Although the link between TaskUs and the breach was previously alleged in a lawsuit filed last week in federal court in Manhattan, details of the incident, reported here for the first time, raise further questions over when Coinbase first learned of the incident. Coinbase said in the May SEC filingthat it knew contractors accessed employee data "without business need" in "previous months." Only when it received an extortion demand on May 11 did it realize that the access was part of a wider campaign, the company said. In a statement to Reuters on Wednesday, Coinbase said the incident was recently discovered and that it had "cut ties with the TaskUspersonnel involved and other overseas agents, and tightened controls." Coinbase did not disclose who the other foreign agents were. TaskUs said in a statement that two employees had been fired early this year after they illegally accessed information from a client, which it did not identify. "We immediately reported this activity to the client," the statement said. "We believe these two individuals were recruited by a much broader, coordinated criminal campaign against this client that also impacted a number of other providers servicing this client." The person familiar with the matter confirmed that Coinbase was the client and that the incident took place in January. Reuters could not determine whether any arrests have been made. Police in Indore did not return a message seeking comment.
