
Ceph Storage Gets Simpler and Faster Thanks to New Collaboration Between ScaleFlux, ICC, and Croit
MILPITAS, Calif., July 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — A new collaboration between ScaleFlux, ICC, and Croit brings simplicity, performance, and innovation to Ceph for NVMe-based storage in AI and high-performance computing environments.
Ceph has long been valued for its scalability to exabytes, open-source flexibility, and support for block, file, and object storage. But its complexity and lack of native storage acceleration have limited adoption—especially among teams building next-gen AI and HPC infrastructure. This partnership aims to solve that.
Together, the three companies have developed a turnkey Ceph storage appliance that removes operational complexity while enhancing performance. The integrated solution includes:
ScaleFlux's CSD5000 NVMe SSDs, featuring built-in data compression engines that expand effective storage capacity by up to 4x. A capability that is managed using industry-standard NVMe Thin Provisioned Namespace (TPN) commands.
Croit's enhanced Ceph management platform, which now supports automated configuration and monitoring of thin-provisioned namespaces. Croit has incorporated these changes into their advanced Ceph management product for easy deployment with 24×7 support, and will submit these updates upstream to the Ceph community.
ICC's RAIO platform, a fully integrated and pre-configured Ceph storage appliance supporting up to 24 ScaleFlux CSD5000 SSDs, tailored to meet the demands of high-performance computing, AI, and enterprise workloads.

RM13 million agriculture, livestock projects launched to boost food security

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 1): The signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between various parties here today marks the launch of agriculture and livestock projects worth RM13 million, aimed at enhancing sector growth and strengthening the country's food security. The first MoU, between the Farmers' Organization Authority (LPP) and Desa Keningau Livestock Industries Sdn Bhd (DKLI), involves a project to boost local grain corn production through a corporate approach and transfer of technology (ToT). Under the five-year partnership, LPP will provide land development and machinery support using a matching grant of RM3 million, while DKLI will oversee planting, planning and implementation. The second MoU, between the Keningau Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK) and Absolute Moringa Sdn Bhd, focuses on a RM10 million agricultural input marketing initiative. This collaboration aims to enhance PPK's services in Sabah by supplying higher-quality agricultural inputs to increase yields and improve business operations. Meanwhile, the third MoU was signed between LPP and Sawit Kinabalu Farm Products Sdn Bhd (SKFP) for a ToT-based integrated cattle breeding project. SKFP will serve as a reference model and provide technical expertise, while LPP coordinates implementation at the Farmers' Organization level. Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, who witnessed the exchange, said the initiatives would reduce Malaysia's dependence on imported products such as grain corn. He said the projects are expected to expand accessibility for breeders and lower food prices, especially for livestock. 'This collaboration between the government and private sector is crucial to ensure the economic benefits reach local communities,' he said. Arthur also praised the initiative for supporting Malaysia's target of achieving 50 percent self-sufficiency in the ruminant industry by 2030, up from the current 16 percent.

Inari, Sanan jointly acquire Lumileds International for RM1.03bil
KUALA LUMPUR: Inari Amertron Bhd and Sanan Optoelectronics Co Ltd have jointly acquired 100 per cent equity interest in Lumileds Holding BV (Lumileds International) and its 11 Asian and European subsidiary companies for an enterprise value of US$239 million or equivalent to RM1.03 billion. Inari said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that the company together with Sanan today entered into a share purchase agreement (SPA) with Dutch-based Lumileds Subholding BV for the proposed acquisition. Lumileds International was incorporated on Oct 30, 2014 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and is a globally recognised leader in the LED industry, specialising in the production and sales of mid-to-high-end LED products. "The proposed joint acquisition will strengthen Inari group's existing captive business strategy while enabling the company to expand and enhance its current product portfolio. "This strategic move will allow Inari group to diversify its product offerings and customer base, thereby creating additional revenue and earnings streams," it said. Inari had also entered into collaboration agreement (CA) and shareholders' agreement (SHA) with Sanan for the purpose of regulating the respective rights and obligations in Lumileds International and the relationship with one another upon completion of the proposed joint acquisition. It said a special purpose vehicle will be incorporated in Hong Kong (HK SPV) and co-owned by Sanan (74.5 per cent) and Inari (25.5 per cent), either directly or indirectly through their respective wholly owned subsidiaries, and the HK SPV will undertake the proposed joint acquisition. In addition to the capital contribution towards the payment of the enterprise value, Inari and Sanan have agreed to inject a further estimated US$41 million (RM176.3 million) into HK SPV and/or Lumileds International for working capital purposes. This brings the total investment outlay for the proposed joint acquisition and estimated working capital to US$280 million (RM1.2 billion).

Wu Yiquan: The Chinese AI researcher scoring big on the basketball court
Amid China's tech revolution, a new kind of multidisciplinary star is emerging – one who dominates both coding and sport. Wu Yiquan, an artificial intelligence (AI) scientist pioneering legal large language models by day, is also making headlines as a rising provincial basketball sensation. Wu, an assistant professor at the Zhejiang University law school, specialises in developing and training legal large language models for applications in education and research. The 1.8m-tall (5 feet 9 inches) star caught media attention after he scored 22 as the defender for the West Lake team in a Zhejiang Provincial City Basketball League qualifier match on July 17. In an interview with Henan-based news site Daxiang News on Wednesday, Wu said scientific research and basketball had things in common. 'The most captivating aspect of basketball is its unpredictability,' he said. 'The pregame analysis often differs from the actual situation on the court, which tests one's ability to adapt in real-time. 'In research, it is crucial to stay calm and positive when facing any challenges. 'Many young scholars embrace multiple identities with various hobbies. Science is not everything in life. Pursuing interests and passions can help cultivate a well-rounded personality and gain a broader perspective on challenges.' Wu completed his studies from undergraduate to doctorate in computer science at Zhejiang University in january, with the university recognising his dissertation as outstanding. He said he was inspired to pursue digital law research after encountering a 'smart court' project during his third year of studies. His research could be seen as a specialised large model for law. 'Because law ... requires high professionalism, while exploring technological innovation, we should ensure that the technology serves the greater good,' Wu said. 'My students come from diverse majors in computer science, law, liberal arts and sciences, forming a cross-disciplinary team. Wu's GitHub developer platform profile highlights not only his academic achievements but also his sporting awards, including a photo of him holding the hoop after a successful dunk. He captained the university men's basketball team for five years from 2019 and was the Chinese University Basketball Association's Outstanding Athlete for three consecutive years. Wu is the project leader of an open-source legal large language model named 'wisdomInterrogatory', providing legal help such as Q&A, case analysis and legal document generation. It was co-developed by Zhejiang University, Shanghai UniDT Technology and the Alibaba Discovery, Adventure, Momentum and Outlook (Damo) Academy. The chatbot is designed to draft documents and offer advice. For example, when asked how to recover money from an online scam, the chatbot gave a four-step guide: keep chat records and bank transfer receipts, report criminal behaviour to the police, seek legal aid and pursue a civil lawsuit to recover funds after the criminal case concludes. 'Everyone should protect their legal rights. Be cautious and do not easily trust requests for help from strangers to avoid being scammed. Stay vigilant to prevent similar incidents in the future,' it advised. In another case, when prompted to draft a contract for a full-time employee, the chatbot generated a template detailing job responsibilities, compensation and benefits, including salary and social insurance, duration of employment, as well as confidentiality clauses. It also listed attachments such as the employee handbook, insurance certificates and company rules and ended with a disclaimer. 'The above is just for reference. The specific content should be adjusted according to actual circumstances.
