Iraqi military radar systems damaged during drone attacks

BAGHDAD, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Several suicide drones struck multiple Iraqi military sites and bases early Tuesday, which damaged radar systems at two bases, the Iraqi military said.
Sabah al-Numan, spokesperson for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, said in a statement that the attacks occurred between 2:15 a.m. (2315 GMT) and 3:45 a.m. (0045 GMT) local time, at the Camp Taji north of Baghdad and the Imam Ali Base in Dhi Qar province in southern Iraq.
The attacks resulted in substantial damage to the radar systems at both bases but caused no human casualties, al-Numan said.
Iraqi forces successfully repelled and thwarted all other attempted attacks on four additional sites across various locations, intercepting the drones and downing them before they could reach their intended targets, the statement added.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, also commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, ordered the formation of a high-level technical and intelligence committee to investigate the attacks and identify the perpetrators, al-Numan said.

Finland completes second section of border fence with Russia: media
HELSINKI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Finland has completed the second section of its border fence along the eastern frontier with Russia, the national broadcaster Yle quoted the Finnish Border Guard as saying on Tuesday. The newly constructed stretch is located in the north-central region of Kainuu and consists of eight segments spanning approximately 18 km, Yle said. This follows the completion of the first 35-km section. Finland's parliament approved the fence project in 2022, with plans to eventually cover around 200 km of the country's 1,300-km border with Russia. Construction began in 2023, with each segment including a steel mesh barrier, a service road, a cleared buffer zone, and a technical surveillance system. The Kainuu section features technological upgrades compared to the initial pilot segment built near the southeastern town of Imatra. Iran says airspace to remain closed until Wednesday afternoon
TEHRAN, June 24 (Xinhua) -- An Iranian spokesman said on Tuesday the country's airspace will remain closed until Wednesday afternoon, according to the semi-official Mehr news agency. Majid Akhavan, spokesman of the Roads and Urban Development Ministry, said the decision was made in light of the recent developments and to ensure the safety of passengers and flights, noting that the flight suspension would remain in effect until 2:00 p.m. local time (10:30 GMT) on Wednesday. Iran closed its airspace after Israel launched airstrikes on Tehran and other parts of the country on June 13. A ceasefire between the two sides was declared early Tuesday.
