67 arrested in crackdown on triad-controlled prostitution ring in Hong Kong
A source said on Saturday that the operation was the third recent effort targeting triad group Sun Yee On, including senior-ranking gangster 'Little B'. He was allegedly also involved in laundering nearly HK$40 billion by a syndicate that the force smashed last month.
In the July operation, police arrested 82 people and seized assets worth over HK$15 million (US$1.9 million), including a giant Labubu doll estimated to cost HK$1 million.
Superintendent Chau Ka-man said on Saturday that the force sent an undercover officer in March to infiltrate the triad group to collect intelligence and evidence, and found that the syndicate operated members' clubs and bars to sell sex worker services to customers.
The syndicate charged an 'extortionate' commission, with each transaction ranging between HK$5,000 and HK$10,000, and the workers receiving about 40 per cent or less, Chau said.
'The sex workers were primarily recruited from Thailand, Taiwan, and the mainland, with the syndicate providing food and accommodation during their stay as well as drivers between their residence and different entertainment venues for their clients,' he said.

Hong Kong driver arrested after 3 vehicles hit during police roadblock escape
Hong Kong police have arrested a motorist who hid in a hotel room for five days after allegedly hitting three vehicles, injuring another driver, while fleeing from a roadblock. The man, 30, was detained in connection with seven offences including furious driving and drug trafficking, Chief Inspector Law Chin-hon said on Saturday. The suspect is alleged to have disobeyed an order on Monday to turn off the engine and get out of his vehicle at a roadblock in Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok, for a police inspection. Law said the man instead drove forwards and backwards quickly to escape. 'His behaviour was so dangerous that Emergency Unit officer had to use a baton to break the right side window of his car, in an attempt to subdue him,' Law said. However, the officer's attempt failed and the man drove in the opposite direction on Soy Street and was last tracked to Yim Po Fong Street.

Hong Kong footballer to resume career after rape conviction overturned
Yip Ka-yu is set to return to BC Rangers after the goalkeeper had his rape conviction overturned in June. In October 2023, Yip was sentenced to five years and three months in prison after he was convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl. The Court of Appeal determined that Yip had been left with no chance of receiving a not-guilty verdict, because the trial judge did not mention to the jury that he might have been under the 'genuine but mistaken belief' that the complainant agreed to have sex with him. His conviction and sentence were quashed, leaving the 28-year-old free to resume his football career. It has been reported that Yip will sign for Rangers, where he spent two years after joining from Kwai Tsing in 2015. Yip Ka-yu has been listed as a Rangers player by Transfermarkt. Photo: Handout A BC Rangers spokesman told the Post that the club 'don't have any comment on this issue at the moment', and asked that questions be directed to management when the club host a pre-season media day next Friday.

3 Hongkongers, 2 mainland Chinese arrested over ride-hailing fraud syndicate ties
Hong Kong police have arrested two visitors from mainland China and three residents on suspicion of being part of a syndicate that recruits drivers to provide illegal ride-hailing services in the city by using tourist visas and fake identity cards. The force said on Saturday that it arrested three residents in the past two days in Tuen Mun and Lok Ma Chau for allegedly conspiring to defraud, laundering money and aiding and abetting others to breach their conditions of stay. Police said the case was the second to involve a ride-hailing syndicate in a crackdown in the past week. The trio comprised two men and one woman aged between 41 and 65. Two men from the mainland working as drivers were also arrested in Tai Po and West Kowloon and charged with alleged illegal carriage of passengers for reward, driving without third-party insurance and violating their conditions of stay. Superintendent Basil Tang Yick-kay from the crime division of the northern New Territories said officers had been investigating syndicates that recruited mainland drivers to work in Hong Kong since the middle of the year.
