on Saturday said that Panchayat elections 2025 will be held in two phases across 12 districts, except Haridwar.
He also said that the first phase of the 2025 Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand will be held on July 10, followed by the second phase on July 15.
Speaking to ANI, Sushil Kumar said, "In Uttarakhand, with the exception of the Haridwar district, a notification has been issued for the three-tier Panchayat elections 2025 across 12 districts. The counting of votes will occur on 19 July 2025, and the results will be announced thereafter."
Nominations will be accepted from June 25 to 28, and the Model Code of Conduct is now in effect across the state.
"The schedule is as follows: District Officers will release their notification on 23 June, and the nomination process will take place from 25 June to 28 June. Elections will occur in two phases. The first voting phase will be held on the 10th of July, and the second phase will be held on the 15th of July. Thus, the Model Code of Conduct will be effective in the state," Kumar said.

Addressing the gathering, CM Dhami said, "I am delighted that on International Day of Yoga today, we are blessed with the presence of all of you (foreign delegates and guests). Your graceful presence has provided a global reputation to this event."
He also emphasised the worldwide enthusiasm for the yoga movement, saying, "...Across the world, International Yoga Day 2025 is being celebrated with great fervour today. In this connection, Yoga was performed here in the presence of Swami Bharat Bhushan and delegates from eight countries...This has sent a message that this will open doors to multiple possibilities on our land of Yoga and Ayush."

Enthusiasm marks International Day of Yoga in Andhra Pradesh
The month-long Yogandhra campaign organised across Andhra Pradesh culminated in the International Day of Yoga-2025 held on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers, and Ministers participated. District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu were among the officials who took part. At the Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district, Collector J. Venkata Murali, along with 10,000 people, participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. Many participated in various other locations across the district. In Palnadu district, a total of 9.97 lakh people participate in the yoga sessions at 5,000 venues. Collector P. Arun Babu participated at the district headquarters, where around 10,000 people participated, the I&PR Department said. In Guntur district, Collector S. Nagalakshmi participated along with 5,000 participants at the Police Parade Grounds in Guntur city. A total of 9.70 people participated at 5,130 venues. An overwhelming participation of over 8 lakh people was witnessed under the Yogandhra- 2025 initiative across the Chittoor district. In Chittoor, Collector Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikantha Chandolu, and officials joined the public in the yoga day event at the District Police Grounds. At Rayachoti in Annamayya district, over 5,000 people took part in the event, led by Collector Sridhar Chamakuri. In Hindupur of Sri Sathya Sai district, Collector T.S. Ahead of polls, Nitish hikes social security pension in Bihar to ₹1,100; Jeevika workers honorarium doubled
In a move to further strengthen the NDA's women vote bank ahead of assembly polls due in October-November, the NDA government in Bihar led by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced an increase in the monthly pension for elderly, disabled persons, and widowed women from ₹ 400 to ₹ 1,100. The decision, which will take effect from July, would impact 1,09,69,255 beneficiaries under the state's Social Security Pension Scheme. (PTI) In another major decision, Kumar also announced to double the honorarium of all the workers associated with Jeevika. The state government announced to bear the additional amount of honorarium increase of these employees. There are nearly 1.40 lakh workers working for various types of administrative, training and other works related to self-help groups and are doing good work towards making women empowered and self-reliant. The CM also announced to lower the interest rate on loans taken by self-help groups under the Jeevika project. 'Self-help groups will now have to pay only 7 percent interest on bank loans of more than ₹ 3 lakh. Earlier, self-help groups had to pay 10 percent interest on bank loans of more than ₹ 3 lakh. Now after the reduction in interest rate, the additional amount to be given to the banks as interest will be given by the government. This will increase the income of Jeevika sisters and their standard of living will improve further,' said Kumar through at post on X. 'I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, all the elderly, disabled and widowed women will now get a pension of ₹ 1100 instead of ₹ 400 every month. All the beneficiaries will get pension at the increased rate from the month of July. It will be ensured that this amount is sent to the account of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of the month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries a lot,' Kumar announced on X. The announcements were made after a review meeting on Saturday of 'Mahila Samvad Programme' after holding similar programmes at different districts, a programme through which NDA government is trying to reach out nearly 37,257,477 women voters which form 47.75% of Bihar's total voting population of 78,022,933 as per revised voter list published in January this year. 'The core of the programme was around 12.7 million Jeevika didis,' said an official. The announcement comes in the backdrop of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav announcing that ₹ 2,500 will be deposited in the accounts of women under Mai-Bahin Samman Yojna, if his party forms the government in the state, and Beti (Benefit Education Training Income) Samman Yojana for girls' education. The Congress has also announced a Mai Behan Man Yojana. The Janata Dal (United) and its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are seeking to consolidate their position against an opposition front led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress. The Bihar Assembly elections are expected to be held in October and November this year, and the NDA, which consists of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will be once again looking forward to returning to power while the INDIA Bloc will be giving a competition to the incumbent Nitish Kumar government. Women form the core voters for Nitish Kumar in particular and the NDA in general. Kumar's three main initiatives, the improved law and order, especially related to women security; the 'Jeevika' poverty alleviation programme started by Nitish; and the 50 per cent quota for women in panchayat and municipal bodies, have helped in a long way in retaining their faith over the years. Earlier on June 12, chief minister Kumar had increased the limit of giving administrative approval of schemes in MNREGA for the head of the Gram Panchayats from the existing ₹ 5 lakh to ₹ 10 lakh. The government also announced increasing the monthly allowance of representatives of all levels of Panchayati Raj institutions by one and a half times. Mukhiyas and Sarpanchs in Bihar would now be getting ₹ 7,500 per month as against ₹ 5,000 earlier, whereas Ward members and Panchs would be getting ₹ 1,200 per month as against ₹ 800 per month earlier. The remuneration was earlier hiked last year (2024) from ₹ 2,500 per month to ₹ 5,000 per month for mukhiyas and sarpanchs. Similarly, the salaries of Ward members and panch were raised from ₹ 500 to ₹ 800. The proposal would now go to cabinet for clearance. There are 8,062 panchayats in Bihar.

No more long delays: Defence secretary says India plans to reduce weapon buying timeline from 6 to only 2 years

He offered rare insights into Operation Sindoor, Pakistan's response, and structural challenges within the defence acquisition process . Emergency procurement and stock replenishment After the operation, the government gave emergency powers to the three armed services, allowing them to use up to 15% of their capital budgets for the urgent purchase of ammunition and equipment to replenish operational stocks. Singh noted that although funding for modernization is sufficient, challenges remain in utilization. 'Capital expenditure has grown 7% over the past few years, but difficulty in absorbing funds meant we had to surrender some of the budget at the revised estimate stage. For the first time in five years, we fully utilized the budget last year, awarding contracts worth ₹2 lakh crore — up from ₹1 lakh crore in 2023–24. The real bottleneck, he explained, lies in the procurement timeline. 'It takes 5–6 years to buy a weapon — from issuing an RFP to field trials and cost negotiations. Ideally, this should take no more than two years.' 'We must avoid redundancy. Many steps can be conducted concurrently rather than sequentially. We've formed a committee to simplify DAP, and its deadline is six months. The new DAP 2025 should be shorter, simpler, and more outcome-focused.' He added that unnecessary conditions preventing domestic production need to be removed. The goal, he said, is to facilitate indigenous defence manufacturing without compromising standards. India's defence exports: From negligible to ₹23,000 Crore When asked about India's growing status as a defence exporter, Singh dismissed concerns that it might lead to international isolation or reduce reliance on traditional suppliers. 'I don't believe India is at risk of isolation. You've seen Prime Minister Modi's successful foreign visits — we continue to strengthen global partnerships.' India's defence exports have increased from virtually nothing in 2014 to ₹23,000 crore, and Singh expressed confidence in meeting the ₹50,000 crore target in the coming years. 'We currently account for only 2% of global defence exports. Only when we begin selling large platforms — like missiles and aerial systems — will others view us as serious competitors,' he said. Focus on high-value systems for export India has already exported systems like BrahMos missiles, Akash surface-to-air missiles, Bharat Forge's ATAGS artillery guns, and other towed gun systems. Singh added that there is growing interest in multi-barrel rocket launchers, which, though not used in Operation Sindoor, are attracting global queries. India also has robust capability in the production of small arms and various types of ammunition, particularly 155mm shells, which are in high demand worldwide. Singh highlighted that public sector companies increased their defence exports by 40%, while private sector firms grew by 10%, contributing significantly to India's emergence as a reliable global weapons supplier. Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's Response Singh confirmed that during Operation Sindoor, the Indian Armed Forces demonstrated their ability to strike deep inside Pakistani territory. 'Initially, we targeted only terrorist infrastructure. But when the Pakistan Army retaliated directly against our forces, it became clear these groups were their assets. In response, India struck multiple Pakistani military airfields — some of which remain out of commission,' he said. Following these strikes, Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called for a ceasefire. Singh emphasized that such operations are followed by debriefs to assess performance.
