Little Rock cemetery gets backlash after people see casket outside of grave, director speaks out
Some are calling it illegal, and others are urging everyone to check on their loved ones buried there. Percy Webb, director of Haven of Rest Cemetery, said he believes people are overreacting.
'You got spooky people looking for spooky stuff, you know, to give to a spooky community,' Webb said.
The Cemetery Act passes through Arkansas House Committee, would penalize perpetual cemetery owners for poor upkeep
He said no one knows the facts, but added he wants to clear the air.
'This casket is the one that came out of the ground here when it was disinterred, when the body was disinterred, the coroner suggested that he be put in another casket,' Webb said.
Webb said a man's body was removed from the casket with permission from the family, but he wasn't able to immediately get rid of the casket, so he covered it instead. But even with the casket away from people's graves, some still managed to find it.
KARK 4 News asked some families how they felt about this, many of them denying speaking on camera, but calling it disgusting.
Webb was also asked when the casket would be removed.
'The casket will leave as soon as I can burn those impurities off that casket and take it to the scrap yard,' Webb said. 'If it's a month, if it's two days, it's going to stay there until I can dispose of it properly.'
Maumelle families still seeking closure months after cemetery theft
KARK 4 News also reached out to the Pulaski County Coroner's office to confirm that they gave Webb permission to leave the casket out. They responded that they had no knowledge of the situation and wouldn't be able to release an official statement until Monday.

MLB suspends Victor Robles 10 games for throwing bat at pitcher
Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles was suspended for 10 games after he threw a bat at a pitcher while on a minor league rehab assignment in the Pacific Coast League. Robles was playing for the Tacoma Rainiers when a ball from Las Vegas Aviators pitcher Joey Estes came high and inside. The ball went off the bat, and as Robles twirled around the catcher, he hurled the bat toward the mound. Major League Baseball announced the suspension on Tuesday. Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners' president of baseball operations, told reporters before the team's game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday that Robles was set to be recalled next week but the incident and subsequent suspension changed their plans. He apologized in a post on his Instagram Stories on Monday. "I want to take a moment to sincerely apologize for my recent reaction on the field," he wrote. "I let my frustration get the best of me, and I understand how that may have affected not just the game, but the energy and respect we all work so hard to maintain. "Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging. Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I've been doing my best to hold it together. That's not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I'm coming from." The suspension will be effective on the first day Robles returns to the team's active roster. He's not allowed to play in any game, including additional rehab games in the minors, once the suspension begins. Robles is appealing the disciplinary action.
