Former Laker Vlade Divac has emergency surgery after breaking hip in motorcycle accident
On Friday, a spokesperson for a hospital in Risan said the 57-year-old Serbian basketball legend now has an artificial hip after emergency surgery.
'During the day, a surgical procedure was performed,' hospital spokesperson Ljubica Mitrovic said of Divac. 'He is in a stable general and physical condition and is under a careful supervision of the medical staff.'
Divac, a 7-1 center, was drafted by the Lakers in 1989 after leading the Yugoslavia men's basketball team to an Olympic silver medal the previous year. He became a full-time starter during his second season as a Laker and soon emerged as a fan favorite, with frequent appearances in commercials, sitcoms and late-night talk shows.
After seven seasons with the Lakers, Divac was traded to the Charlotte Hornets for the recently drafted Kobe Bryant on July 1, 1996. (The Lakers would sign another 7-1 center, Shaquille O'Neal, as a free agent later that month.)
Divac played two seasons with the Hornets and signed with the Sacramento Kings as a free agent in 1999. He spent six years there — a stint that included his only All-Star season, in 2000-01 — before returning to the Lakers for the last of his 16 NBA seasons in 2004-05.
After finishing his career with 13,398 points, 9,326 rebounds, 3,541 assists and 1,631 blocked shots, the Kings retired his No. 21 jerseyin 2009. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Divac was the Kings' general manager from 2015-2020.

Packers claim WR Kawaan Baker off waivers from Raiders
In need of help at wide receiver with injuries mounting, the Green Bay Packers claimed Kawaan Baker off of waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday, per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. The Packers waived cornerback Isaiah Dunn with an injury designation to clear a roster spot for Baker, who will be officially added to the roster once he passes a physical on Wednesday. Baker has spent time on the practice squads of the Saints, Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, and he was with the New England Patriots during the 2024 season. While at South Alabama, Baker caught 126 passes for 1,829 yards and 16 touchdowns while also rushing 92 times for 376 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also returned 29 kickoffs. In 2020, Baker was a second-team All-Sun Belt pick. The Packers are headed to Indiana to face the Colts in a joint practice on Thursday and a preseason game on Saturday. It's possible Baker will be needed to play snaps late in the preseason game.

Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader placed on 15-day disabled list with shoulder strain
HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left shoulder. The move, retroactive to Monday, comes after the left-hander reported shoulder discomfort before Monday's game against the Boston Red Sox. 'It's (a) punch in the gut,' manager Joe Espada said. 'But ... he's seeing doctors right now. We're getting more tests done and hopefully this is not going to be a long-term thing.' Espada added that they don't yet know the severity of the injury and should know more after additional testing. Espada said he would not name a closer to fill in while Hader is out, but would use his relievers based on matchups. 'I feel good about all those guys,' Espada said. Hader, who is in his second season in Houston, is 6-2 with a 2.05 ERA and is tied for third in the majors with 28 saves in 48 appearances this season. To take his spot on the roster, the AL West-leading Astros reinstated right-hander Shawn Dubin from the 15-day injured list. They also designated right-hander Hector Neris for assignment and recalled left-hander Colton Gordon from Triple-A Sugar Land. ___

Baltimore Ravens swim with Michael Phelps, get lessons from the Olympic champion
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens got their chance to swim with Michael Phelps. A couple of weeks after players shot video asking the 23-time Olympic champion — and Baltimore native — for swimming lessons, Phelps showed up at practice Tuesday. Then the team posted video of players swimming and diving — or at least leaping off diving boards — at nearby Loyola University. In one video posted by a reporter for the team's website, Phelps let everyone else have a significant head start before diving in and racing them. At least some of them did beat him to the end. Phelps also toured the smaller pools at the Ravens' facility, and he spoke to the team on the practice field along with former Ravens star Ray Lewis. 'I'm not going to say I'm a big swimming fan, but I know Michael Phelps,' defensive coordinator Zach Orr said. 'I think it was neat having him and Ray come talk to us, because the message was the same. That's one thing you notice when you listen to the greats. When you study the greats, you wonder, 'How do they do such great things in the highest tense moments?'
