Rawang snatch thief arrested, hunt on for accomplice
KUALA LUMPUR: A man was arrested for attempting to snatch a woman's necklace along Jalan Maxwell, Rawang on Sunday.
Gombak district police chief ACP Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the incident occurred at 5.25 pm when the suspect and an accomplice, who is still at large, attempted to snatch a necklace from a woman in her 40s as she was getting into her vehicle after shopping.
'The suspect grabbed the victim's gold necklace and tried to flee, but was apprehended by the woman's husband with the help of bystanders at the scene.
'However, his accomplice managed to give the slip on a motorcycle. The victim sustained injuries to her chest and knee from the incident,' he said in a statement today.
Noor Ariffin also said that the 31-year-old suspect has been remanded for seven days. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt during a robbery.
He added that efforts to track down the other suspect are ongoing. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Investigating Officer Insp Muhammad Hakimir Razally at 011-33352585 or the Gombak district police headquarters operations room at 03-61262222.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral, showing an 18-second clip of the victim's husband quickly apprehending the snatch thief.

Johor retiree loses RM108,000 to Macau scam
TANGKAK: A 58-year-old woman lost RM108,000 of her savings to scammers impersonating government officers. Tangkak OCPD Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said the suspects contacted the retiree claiming to be from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police. 'The suspects accused her of being involved in suspicious investment and loan activities, causing her to panic," he said here on Monday (June 2). 'The suspects manipulated the victim into believing she was being audited. "Out of fear, she followed their instructions, transferring money supposedly for audit purposes." Supt Roslan said the victim made a total of 16 transactions totalling RM108,520 to two accounts provided by the suspects. She later realised she had been cheated and lodged a report on Sunday (June 1), he added. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Supt Roslan advised the public not to fall for such telephone scams, or Macau scams, where callers pose as enforcement or government agency officers and accuse their targets of wrongdoing. 'Verify any suspicious calls before taking action. "Be cautious and always get the latest updates on scams through official platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages of the Commercial Crime Investigation Department,' he said. Any suspected scams should be reported to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 for early intervention in blocking fund transfers, he added.

Man arrested for assaulting father in Tawau
KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested a 23-year-old for assaulting his biological father, leaving the victim with serious facial injuries, following a misunderstanding on Sunday (June 1). Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, who does not have valid travel documents, was picked up at a workers' residential area, nearly two hours after a report was lodged against him. 'The incident occurred at around 9.15pm at a house in Kampung Pitas, Bombalai. Initial investigation revealed that the son had suddenly punched his father, in his 60s, on the face and head. 'It is still unknown why the attack happened,' said Jasmin. He added that the suspect attempted to flee during the arrest but was apprehended following a brief struggle. The suspect is currently being held for further investigation under Sections 323/326A of the Penal Code. Jasmin also advised the public to be aware of mental health and emotional issues within families, and to resolve conflicts maturely and responsibly.
