ABILENE, Texas () – A cross-country Catholic movement made its way to Abilene.
The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, a large turnout of the faithful, stopped to hold mass.
This procession began on May 18 in Indianapolis, Indiana. It made 11 stops before arriving in Abilene from Fort Worth.
According to organizers, this event continued from last year as a national outpouring of joy and community for the nation's religious. Deacon Eduardo Castillo of the Diocese of San Angelo told KTAB/KRBC that he is overjoyed to see such participation in what officials have described as a 'grassroots' movement.
'I'm very happy with it. It's the first one in Abilene. They're doing it tomorrow in San Angelo. So as far as the turnout, there's a lot of people from what I see. So hopefully in the future, you have some more,' Castillo said.
This event has drawn protests at a few previous stops along the trail. Today's Organizers told KTAB/KRBC that they had made preparations, such as having the Abilene Police Department (APD) on hand.
But no such protest took place in Abilene. The pilgrimage will make its way to San Angelo next with six more stops planned in Texas, New Mexico, and California, before arriving at the Diocese of Los Angeles on June 20.

Man Kicks Mom Out for 'Praying' Wife's Unborn Child Is 'Healthy' After Prior Stillbirth. Now She Wants an Apology

A father kicked his own mom out during dinner after she made repeated digs about his pregnant wife and autistic son Her comments about stillbirth, high-risk pregnancy and 'praying' pushed the couple's emotional limits He stood his ground to protect his wife — now his mom says he owes her an apologyA man is turning to Reddit for support after a tense family dinner ended with him asking his own mother to leave his home following a series of comments she made about his wife's pregnancy. The 37-year-old father and husband, who has been married for 12 years, began his post by sharing that he and his wife are the parents of a 10-year-old autistic son. In addition to his son, the couple experienced a stillbirth about three years ago. 'My wife has severe anxiety about this pregnancy now as well along with nightmares and I've just been trying to do my best for her,' he wrote, describing the emotional toll that a previous stillbirth and the current pregnancy have taken on his family. His wife, now 21 weeks pregnant, is seeing a therapist to help manage her anxiety as the couple hopes for the best outcome. The family's recent dinner with his parents was meant to be a time of togetherness, but quickly took a turn when his mother began making pointed remarks about their son's autism and the new baby's health. 'My mom began talking [about] how hopefully this one's born healthy mentally and physically implying our son's autism,' he recalled. The poster immediately shut down the conversation. 'I instantly shut her down and said that's not even on our minds, she made a comment saying it should be, and my father told her to stop.' Even after his father intervened and asked her to stop, she resumed the conversation later, questioning whether his wife was considered high-risk due to her age and referencing the previous loss. The final straw came when his mother said, 'she'll be praying for us because it's more likely to happen if it's happened before and my wife's age plays a factor now as well.' At that point, he decided to end the evening. 'I then said okay I think it's time for you to leave,' he shared, describing how his mother became upset and insisted her comments were kind. A heated argument followed, but ultimately his mother left, with his father apologizing on her behalf. The fallout didn't end there. 'She got upset and said what she said was kind, and I said I already told you not to bring it up,' he shared. 'We got into a huge argument but she did end up leaving, my father apologized on her behalf.' 'Later that night my mom started texting me calling me an ah [a------] and said she couldn't believe I would kick her out of my house for saying she'd pray for me, and how badly I broke her heart tonight,' he wrote. He concluded his story saying that the next day, his mother continued to reach out, telling him she's 'still waiting for an apology.' Now, the man is caught between setting boundaries and shielding his wife from additional stress. Read the original article on People
