This leaked iPhone 17 Pro color has me excited for the iPhone 17 Pro

Digital Trends7 days ago
I've been reporting on technology for almost twenty years, and I vividly recall the early years of the smartphone industry when companies like Nokia pushed the boundaries when it came to smartphone colors.
Rather than the less exciting neutral colors that have become standard in the industry – gray, white, silver, and gold – Nokia launched phones in bright red, yellow, and other vibrant colors. Yes, there were still the same standardized options, but you also had bright neon colors, such as the yellow Lumia 1020 or the orange Nokia N8.

The latter was striking because it was so rare. Few companies had attempted to create an orange phone, and far fewer came close to achieving the same level of quality as Nokia did.
Last year, Motorola launched the Razr 2024 in this bright orange color that is still spectacular, but it was missing from this year's Razr 2025 series. However, the purported colors for the upcoming iPhone 17 series just leaked, and they suggest that Apple could be set to launch an orange-like phone.
At first glance, it looks fantastic: here's why it could be the best attempt at orange yet.
The leaked iPhone 17 series camera lens protectors
We've had two major leaks this week about Apple's next iPhone, and both of them make the phone colors look fantastic. The first came from well-known tipster Sonny Dickson on X, who tweeted images of the metal camera-lens protectors and the colorful rim surrounding them.
The iPhone 17 will come in six colors: black, gray, silver, light blue, light green, and light purple. We can only see a small sample of the shades, but the light blue option looks particularly good.
Then there's the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, Apple's ultra-thin competitor to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. This will come in black, silver, light gold, and a blue-grey color that looks quite interesting. However, with just a single camera, it's hard to tell exactly how it will look.
Lastly, there's the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which will share the same color palette. There are black, gray, and silver options, which presumably resemble existing or past options, as well as a dark blue option that appears darker than the navy used on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. However, the most interesting by far is the orange option.
Renders confirmed that Orange is making a comeback
The second leak from MacWorld confirmed that Apple is launching the iPhone 17 Pro series in Orange. It also provided renders that purport to show the iPhone 17 Pro in Orange and Black, but it's the Orange one that has me super excited.
Renders and photos can never truly replicate the appearance of a color in person. The Pantone color provided in MacWorld's leak suggests a vibrant orange, rather than the orange-like gold color the renders suggest. I hope that it is just as lively as the orange colors used by Nokia and Motorola.
It's interesting to see Apple launch its phones in a fifth color, as it has most recently adopted four core colors for its flagship lineup. The base iPhone has often launched in a wider range of colors, but these were more pastel than neon.
Beyond the orange, the MacWorld report confirms the rest of the colors and their similarities. The Black and White iPhone 17 Pro options are the same as those of the iPhone 16 Pro, while the Gray option will be similar to the Natural Titanium color. The Dark Blue is Pantone 19-4025 TPG Mood Indigo, a darker variant than the last blue flagship Apple introduced.
Then there's the base iPhone 17, and again, the Black and White options are the same as in the iPhone 16. The other colors are Gray (Pantone 18-4005-TPG), Green (Pantone 2282 U), Purple (Pantone 530 U), and Light Blue (Pantone 658 U). The green is more vibrant than the Mint color used in the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, but appears similar to the light green Razr 2025.
This is the most excited I've been about iPhone colors in year
My favorite phone launch of the year is usually the new Razr series, thanks to Motorola's incredible array of Razr Ultra 2025 colors. Samsung has just launched blue and mint options for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 that look fantastic, as well as a striking coral red Galaxy Z Flip 7.
Each year, I hope that Apple will bring its vibrant base iPhone colors to the Pro and Pro Max range, and every year, I am somewhat disappointed. This year, the Orange iPhone 17 Pro has me super excited, not just to use it, but also to see the other colors that Apple chooses to offer. We need more color options in smartphones, and as the iPhone 17 Pro consistently sells well, hopefully, this will encourage phone makers to adopt more color.

Analyst Calling for Apple (AAPL) CEO Tim Cook's Exit Says Company ‘Fooled' Investors About AI

Apple is one of the . Walter Piecyk from LightShed Partners recently talked about his note discussing his thoughts on Apple needing a new CEO. The analyst believes Tim Cook can be replaced by a 'product-focused' CEO and plans for leadership replacement could bode well for the stock. He believes Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) 'fooled' investors about its AI plans. 'I mean, they effectively fooled investors last year at WWDC, making them believe that there was a path to AI when none existed. We all know the state of Siri today. I know it's been bantered about—Perplexity perhaps being an option to acquire. That's not a, you know, an LLM in the sense of ChatGPT, right? This is a wrapper for existing LLMs. But frankly, it's a better situation than they're in today. And you can't just snap your fingers. This is like the concept of moving production from China to India—you just don't snap your fingers and all of a sudden, you know, change your production overnight. Same thing with AI. Look at the capex that Facebook and Google and others have invested in AI, and then look at the capex that Apple has invested in, which has been non-existent. So you just don't overnight create an AI strategy that's homegrown. And then, alternatively, Perplexity is, you know, a possible solution that maybe, you know, pushes them forward and gives them a starting point that at least they can build off of,' he said during an interview with CNBC. Photo by Alexandr Bormotin on Unsplash Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) is desperately in need of new catalysts. The company's revenue in China fell 8% in fiscal year 2024, following a 2% decline the previous year. The Chinese market accounts for about 15% of Apple's total revenue, so this downtrend cannot be ignored. Investors had hopes from the Wearables, Home, and Accessories segment, but so far its performance has been weak. Vision Pro faces tough competition from Meta's $500 Quest and the more affordable Quest 3S, making it hard to justify its $3,500 price tag. The failure of Apple's HomePod, unable to compete with Amazon's and Google's lower-priced offerings, further highlights the challenges in this market. Apple's iPhone 16 has not shown promising growth prospects yet, and investors are still in a wait-and-see mode on the AI platform. Mar Vista U.S. Quality Premier Strategy stated the following regarding Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in its second quarter 2025 investor letter: 'Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares came under pressure in the first half of calendar 2025 amid concerns over softening iPhone demand, rising competition from Huawei in China, challenges related to the rollout of Apple Intelligence, its new on-device AI offering, and potential tariff-related headwinds. Despite these near-term pressures, we continue to view Apple as a competitively advantaged business, anchored by the strength of its ecosystem. With over 2 billion active devices and more than 1 billion paying subscribers, Apple benefits from a loyal customer base and a growing stream of high-margin, recurring services revenue. This stable cash flow enables continued investment in innovation, even during periods of cyclical softness. We believe the current headwinds are transitory, and Apple remains well-positioned to lead in the emerging category of AI-enabled edge devices.' While we acknowledge the potential of AAPL as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. Apple and Google may be forced to make changes over mobile platform ‘duopoly'

Apple and Google hold an 'effective duopoly' with their mobile platforms and may be forced to open them up to more competition, a UK watchdog has said. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced proposals to give the US tech giants 'strategic market status' for their mobile platforms, which could enforce changes that will benefit consumers, businesses and app developers. Under new rules which came into force at the start of the year, firms designated with the status can have conduct requirements imposed on them which boost competition for UK businesses and choice for consumers. The regulator has outlined possible actions for each firm to improve competition across app stores, so-called interoperability, consumer choice and artificial intelligence (AI) services. An earlier market study by the CMA published in 2021 found that Apple and Google dominated mobile ecosystems across operating systems, app stores and web browsers. It said this meant the two companies were in a position to effectively set the rules on how mobile browsers worked on their devices. Around 90% to 100% of UK mobile devices run on Apple or Google's mobile platforms, according to the CMA. Sarah Cardell, chief executive of the regulator, said: 'Apple and Google's mobile platforms are both critical to the UK economy – playing an important role in all our lives, from banking and shopping to entertainment and education. 'But our investigation so far has identified opportunities for more innovation and choice. 'The targeted and proportionate actions we have set out today would enable UK app developers to remain at the forefront of global innovation while ensuring UK consumers receive a world-class experience.' But she added that action needed to be taken swiftly. 'As competition agencies and courts globally take action in these markets, it's essential the UK doesn't fall behind,' she said.

AppleCare One lets you protect three devices under one subscription

Apple has introduced a new tier of its AppleCare insurance policy called AppleCare One . This allows you to cover up to three of your Apple products under a single plan for $20 per month. If you want to add extra devices beyond that, you can do so for an additional $6 per month, per product. Apple first introduced AppleCare+ in 2011 as a means of insuring your iPhone against accidental damage, and has since expanded the plan to its entire product line, adding coverage for theft and loss. Currently, AppleCare+ costs from $10 per month to insure an individual iPhone, with subscription prices starting at $3.49 per month for a Mac , and $5 for an iPad , depending on the model you own. You can also insure your Apple Watch , Vision Pro headset, AirPods, Apple TV and HomePod either individually, or as part of your new AppleCare One plan. AppleCare One features all the same benefits as AppleCare+, including unlimited repairs for accidents such as drops and spills, round-the-clock support from Apple experts, servicing and battery coverage. The theft and loss protection that was previously exclusive to iPhone plans now also covers iPad and Apple Watch if they're included in your AppleCare One plan. You can make up to three claims a year for theft or loss of an iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. The $20 monthly price is fixed regardless of which products you include (as is the $6 you pay to add an additional device), meaning the amount you actually save will depend on what they would cost to insure individually, so it's worth looking into that before you take out the new plan. Apple says that people who cover their iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch could save as much as $11 per month on AppleCare One compared to what they'd pay if each device was insured under AppleCare+. Also new with AppleCare One is the ability to add devices you already own to a protection plan. Previously you'd have to decide within 60 days of purchasing an Apple device. Apple says that providing they're under four years old, are in good condition when added and are in your Apple account, they can be covered under AppleCare One. You may need to run a diagnostic check either on the device itself or at an Apple Store to get it approved. AppleCare One also simplifies the trade-in process. If you trade in a product covered by your plan directly to Apple, it is automatically taken out and replaced by the new device. Unlike AppleCare+, though, there doesn't appear to be a way to pay annually for your plan. Instead, it rolls monthly for as long as you need it, and Apple will let you move products in and out of coverage whenever you want. AppleCare One launches tomorrow in the US, and can be activated either on your iPhone, Mac or iPad, or in an Apple Store. If you buy something through a link in this article, we may earn commission.
