Al Ahli Tripoli Make History With 1st-Ever BAL Final Appearance
Al Ahli Tripoli have reached the finals of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) for the first time in their history after defeating Rwanda's APR 84–71 in a thrilling semi-final clash.
The match, held as part of the fifth edition of the BAL tournament, was tightly contested from the start. APR edged the first quarter 18–17, showing early signs of dominance. However, Al Ahli Tripoli bounced back strongly in the second quarter, taking control and heading into half-time with a 36–29 lead.
APR regrouped in the third quarter, regaining momentum and overtaking Al Ahli Tripoli to lead 57–55 by its conclusion. The intensity increased, and the result remained uncertain going into the final quarter.
But Al Ahli Tripoli produced a stunning turnaround in the last period. With sharp offensive execution and disciplined defence, they overpowered APR, whose attacking efforts faltered under pressure. Al Ahli's players surged ahead with a flurry of points, ultimately sealing the match with a 13-point margin.
The Libyan team's victory marks a milestone in its sporting history, as they now await their final opponent—either Egypt's Al Ittihad Alexandria or Angola's Petro de Luanda. The winner of that clash will face Al Ahli Tripoli in the BAL final.
This historic achievement highlights the growth of Libyan basketball on the continental stage and cements Al Ahli Tripoli's status as one of the emerging forces in African basketball. Tags: Al Ahli TripoliBALBasketballlibyaSports

Benghazi Hosts Arab Federation for Sports Cultures
Libya's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr Abdul-Hadi Al-Hwaij, received a delegation from the Arab Federation for Accompanying Sports Cultures at the ministry's headquarters in Benghazi. The delegation was led by Ashraf Mohamed Ali, President of the Federation, and included members of the Executive Bureau. Also in attendance were the Director of Sports Affairs representing the Moroccan Ministry of National Education and Sports, and the Deputy Minister of Sports from Palestine, who participated as a guest of honour. Dr Al-Hwaij reaffirmed the Ministry's full support for the federation's efforts and initiatives, pledging continued cooperation to help realise its objectives. He highlighted the importance of sports culture in promoting noble values such as social harmony, tolerance, and the rejection of extremism and conflict. The minister also emphasised the cultural and social responsibilities of sports clubs alongside their athletic roles. He noted that the Libyan Government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad and supported by the General Command of the Libyan Armed Forces, places high importance on developing both the sporting and social infrastructure in the country — including human capital, facilities, and a progressive sports mindset. Members of the visiting delegation expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome in Benghazi and praised the constructive discussions and the minister's forward-looking ideas, viewing them as strong endorsements of both the Libyan and Arab federations for sports cultures. They also commended the city's evident security stability, visible reconstruction efforts, and the substantial progress in infrastructure and sports development under the Libyan government's administration.
