Visakhapatnam: In a landmark step toward transforming India's built environment into inclusive and accessible spaces for all, Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) is hosting a high-level national consultation to develop the country's first purple building certification scheme — a dedicated accessibility rating system for buildings.
On June 11–12, more than 50 leading national experts in accessibility, disability rights, architecture, and urban planning with get together at the AMTZ campus in Visakhapatnam to deliberate and finalise the framework. The certification is aimed at ensuring that public and private buildings across India are designed and operated in ways that are truly accessible for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, pregnant women, and all users with mobility and sensory needs.
The purple building certification scheme is being designed as a structured, scalable tool that will assess buildings based on universal design principles. It will include detailed checklists, tiered ratings (basic to excellence), and measurable benchmarks covering entrances, ramps, signage, washrooms, elevators, pathways, and digital accessibility.
"Accessibility should not be seen as an exception, but as the foundation of every building in a truly inclusive nation.

With the purple building certification, AMTZ is proud to lead a national movement that redefines how India builds—ensuring dignity, safety, and equal access for all including Divyangjans," shared Dr Jitendra Sharma, MD & founder CEO of AMTZ.
It may be noted that in the two-day meeting, three expert committees come together to build a national standard for accessibility. Once adopted, purple certification will serve as a voluntary yet widely recognised benchmark for schools, hospitals, shopping complexes, corporate offices, and even housing societies. AMTZ's role goes beyond certification. It is already a national partner in the ongoing Sugamya Delhi Abhiyan, which is a people-led campaign spearheaded by Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneurs Association (IDEA) and now supported by Delhi govt.
The scheme is envisioned as a core tool within that campaign to institutionalise accessibility across public spaces.

Move over quiet quitting — as AI looms ‘quiet cracking' is costing $438 billion and wrecking workers' health

Quiet cracking at work amid layoffs and AI : A new workplace crisis is creeping in, and it is not just hitting workers hard, but it's also costing companies hundreds of billions of dollars in global productivity loss, as per a report. AI Push and Layoffs Are Fueling 'Quiet Cracking' As layoffs intensify and AI becomes the buzzword, most employees are mentally and emotionally struggling to do more with less and career advancement seems to be an impossibility, according to a Fortune report. Employees are scared of voicing out their concerns as they might be risking putting their neck on the line in a dire job market, which has led the staff to silently but massively disengage with their employers, which is called 'quiet cracking,' as reported by Fortune. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like War Thunder - Register now for free and play against over 75 Million real Players War Thunder Play Now Undo Editor in chief and career writer for Kickresume, Martin Poduška highlighted that 'The telltale signs of quiet cracking are very similar to burnout. You may notice yourself lacking motivation and enthusiasm for your work, and you may be feeling useless, or even angry and irritable,' adding, 'These are all common indicators of quiet cracking, and they gradually get worse over time,' as quoted in the report. Fixing Work Culture Before It Breaks: What Managers Must Do Now The career expert warned that managers need to stand on guard to spot fissures in company culture before employees are fully down in the dumps, as reported by Fortune. Poduška advised that, 'If you've noticed an employee becoming more and more disengaged with their work, it may be best to schedule a time where you can discuss how they feel,' as quoted in the report. He added that, 'Setting them new tasks, providing new learning opportunities, and simply having an honest conversation could steer things back in the right direction,' as quoted by Fortune. Nvidia may be developing new AI chip for China: How this may be different from existing H20

Nvidia is reportedly developing a new AI chip for the Chinese market based on its latest Blackwell architecture . According to a report by the news agency Reuters, this chip would be more powerful than the current H20 model that the company is permitted to sell in China. The development follows recent comments from US President Donald Trump that suggested the possibility of allowing more advanced Nvidia chips to be sold to China. However, sources familiar with the matter said to Reuters that regulatory approval is not guaranteed due to ongoing concerns in Washington about providing China with access to advanced AI technology. How Nvidia's new chips for China may be different from H20 The Reuters report cited sources to claim that Nvidia's upcoming chip, tentatively named the B30A, will feature a single-die design. These chips are expected to offer roughly half the computing performance of the company's flagship B300 accelerator, which uses a dual-die setup. In a single-die design, all major circuit components are built on a single silicon piece, rather than spread across multiple dies. The B30A will come equipped with high-bandwidth memory and NVLink technology for fast inter-processor communication which is similar to what's available in the H20 chip , based on Nvidia's older Hopper architecture, the Reuters report noted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like US$31 trillion in wealth extracted from Indonesia during Dutch colonial rule: President Prabowo CNA Read More Undo While the final specifications are still being worked out, Nvidia aims to provide test samples to Chinese customers as early as next month, the sources said to Reuters, requesting anonymity as they were not authorised to speak publicly. In a statement to Reuters, Nvidia said: "We evaluate a variety of products for our roadmap, so that we can be prepared to compete to the extent that governments allow. Everything we offer is with the full approval of the applicable authorities and designed solely for beneficial commercial use.' Nvidia's access to the Chinese market remains a key point in US-China trade tensions , as China accounted for 13% of its revenue last year. The company was only recently allowed to resume sales of the H20 chip, developed for China after 2023 export restrictions, but sales were halted again in April. Trump has suggested Nvidia may be allowed to sell scaled-down next-gen chips in China, though lawmakers worry even reduced versions could weaken US dominance in AI. Nvidia has argued that keeping Chinese developers tied to its hardware and software ecosystem is crucial, especially as Huawei's chips are becoming competitive in computing power, though still weaker in areas like memory bandwidth and software support. However, Nvidia faces additional hurdles as Chinese authorities warn local firms about buying its chips, citing alleged security risks. To maintain its presence, Nvidia is preparing a China-specific Blackwell-based chip, the RTX6000D, designed mainly for AI inference . With lower specs, conventional GDDR memory, and bandwidth deliberately kept below US restriction thresholds, it is priced below the H20. Small batches are expected to ship to Chinese clients in September, the report adds. Redmi 15 5G Unboxing and First Look: What's New and Key Specifications

GST reforms: SBI sees Rs 1.98 lakh crore consumption boost; warns of Rs 85k crore annual revenue hit

The proposed revamp of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) into a two-tier structure with lower levies on household goods could lift consumption by Rs 1.98 lakh crore but also result in an estimated yearly revenue loss of Rs 85,000 crore, SBI Research said in a report released Tuesday. The Centre has put forward a 'next-gen GST' framework with just two rates — 5 per cent for merit goods and 18 per cent for standard items — along with a 40 per cent tax on 5–7 select demerit goods such as pan masala and tobacco, PTI reported. SBI Research noted that the effective weighted average GST rate has already fallen from 14.4 per cent at launch in 2017 to 11.6 per cent by September 2019, and could now slide further to 9.5 per cent if the new structure is adopted. According to the report, the shift would deliver a 0.6 per cent boost to GDP through higher consumption, without stoking inflation, as mass-use items like food and clothing would see tax rates fall from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Consumer price index (CPI) inflation is projected to moderate by 20–25 basis points, with food inflation easing by 10–15 basis points after factoring in a 60 per cent pass-through of lower GST. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? 'The GST 2.0 regime, while also involving an average revenue loss of Rs 85,000 crore, is estimated to have boosted consumption by Rs 1.98 lakh crore,' SBI Research said. For the current fiscal, the report pegs revenue loss at Rs 45,000 crore, assuming the new rates are rolled out from October. Factoring in the income tax cuts announced in the Union Budget, SBI Research estimated the combined effect on household spending at Rs 5.31 lakh crore, translating into about 1.6 per cent of GDP. The Centre's proposal is set to be examined by a panel of state finance ministers on Wednesday and Thursday before being placed before the GST Council next month. At present, GST 1.0 operates with four rate slabs — 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent — plus special rates of 3 per cent on gold, silver, diamonds and jewellery, 1.5 per cent on cut and polished diamonds, and 0.25 per cent on rough diamonds. A compensation cess is also levied on items such as tobacco products, aerated drinks and motor vehicles. Announcing the plan during his 79th Independence Day address on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called GST 2.0 a 'next-generation reform,' and said the new rate rationalisation would be implemented by Diwali.
