Leeds boss Daniel Farke sees ‘business to be done' before transfer window closes
The newly promoted Premier League club, who face Everton in their season-opener at Elland Road on Monday, completed their eighth summer signing on Friday with the arrival of free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin. 'I've also made it clear we need to strengthen our squad, perhaps one more full-back, and especially the offence. 'With Dominic it's a first step, an important step for us of course. But there is still business to be done.' Leeds chairman Paraag Marathe, also president of club owners 49er Enterprises, said in May after promotion that 'we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny that we're allowed to spend'. While some fans have reacted negatively to Leeds' business this summer so far, Farke is convinced chief executive Robbie Evans, sporting director Adam Underwood and head of recruitment Alex Davies share the same ambition. 'Also, as a newly promoted side, you have to be careful in terms of what you can spend, in terms of profit and sustainability rules,' Farke added. 'You have to be patient because we won't do anything crazy that limits the club for the future. 'But I feel everyone at the club is very ambitious to make sure we have the best possible squad to give ourselves a chance of establishing ourselves at Premier League level. 'The last (few) seasons have proved how difficult it is for newly promoted sides to stay in this league and although several clubs have spent lots of money, it's not a guarantee you will survive. 'So you have to do it in a smart way and a sensible way and this is what we are trying to do. 'There is no doubt we need reinforcements, especially in the offence. 'Dominic is definitely a first step, but it can't be the only step. We need a few more.'

Current and former stars from top clubs including Man United, City, Everton and Liverpool, have been struggling to sell their homes. England and Man City ace Phil Foden is the latest ace to knock hundreds of thousands off the price of his home in Prestbury. Among the other players and ex-players to reduce asking prices are former City captain Vincent Kompany, ex-Everton captain Tim Cahill and former England international Joleon Lescott. It comes after Alexander Isak's 'juicy' Man Utd offer and Pep Guardiola intervention to seal £51m deal. Other footballers including Thiago Alcantara and Alejandro Garnacho have seen their houses languishing on the market for months with no buyers in sight. England star Foden has just knocked £300,000 off the asking price of his home with a new price of £2.95m. His former team mate Kompany has also shaved off £300,000 with a new price of £3.65m for his home in Hale Barns. And former City star Lescott was forced to chop £250,000 off his home in Alderley Edge after originally putting it on the market for £4.5m. Cahill has lopped off a massive £1.5m from his mansion in Hale after originally trying to sell it for £6.5m. The 'Golden Triangle' has been a hotbed of housing activity in the top end of the market fuelled by Premier League footballers in the area for years. One local estate agent and mortgage broker said: 'What you have to remember is there's a very small pool of people who can afford properties like these. The super rich or other footballers. These are top end, high-spec properties. 'A lot of players have turned to renting property. They might only be at a club for a couple of seasons, so it makes more sense for them to rent rather than make a substantial investment. 'The prices associated with properties in areas like this mean they are only achievable to very wealthy business people or fellow players. The area is known for attracting wealthy residents. There's no evidence of widespread price drops, but prices can be flexible if someone is pushing for a sale.' Other stars who have struggled to sell their homes in the area include former Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara whose £5.95m Knutsford home has been languishing on the market since December. United winger Garnacho's Altrincham home has been sitting on the market since he put it up for sale in March for £3.85m.
