Mortal remains of 199 Ahmedabad plane crash victims handed over to families so far
The mortal remains of 199 victims of the June 12 fatal plane crash in Ahmedabad have been handed over to their families so far, Gujarat health minister Rushikesh Patel has confirmed.
On Thursday, a week after the crash of Air India flight AI 171, a total of 217 DNA matches had been confirmed and as many families had been contacted to reach the hospital and receive the bodies of their loved ones.
As of 8.30 pm Thursday, according to Patel's post on X, 199 bodies had been handed over to the passengers' kin while the processes with regard to the others remained underway.

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Rakesh Joshi on Thursday said that 215 DNA samples have been matched, and the mortal remains of 198 deceased in the Air India AI-171 plane crash have been handed over to their respective families. Speaking to reporters, Mr Joshi said, "215 DNA samples have been matched, of which the mortal remains of 198 deceased have been handed over to their the 198 deceased, 149 are Indian nationals, seven Portuguese, 32 British and one Canadian." He added that the mortal remains of 15 victims were dispatched by air and 183 by road via ambulances. Earlier in the day, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said that 222 victims of the AI-171 plane crash have been identified so far, including 214 based on DNA samples and eight without DNA matching. He said their remains have been handed over to their families. "Police also do their part of the investigation, but other agencies and the experts do the technical part, like analysing the black box, and the investigation is underway... 222 people have been identified so far, 214 based on DNA samples and eight were identified without DNA and their bodies have been handed over to their families," Mr Malik told reporters. Meanwhile, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu held a high-level video conference with all Airport Directors across the country to review ground-level preparedness and passenger support mechanisms in the light of rescheduling of flights happening due to multiple reasons like post-accident checks, weather changes, closing of certain airspaces due to geopolitical tensions, etc. According to a release from the Civil Aviation Ministry, several directives were issued during the meeting, including Close liaison with airlines, which was emphasised to ensure passenger issues are addressed swiftly and on the spot. Availability of food, drinking water, and adequate seating facilities at terminals must be ensured, particularly during flight delays or congestion. Sufficient personnel must be deployed at key touchpoints to manage passenger grievances proactively. On June 12, the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed into a hostel complex of BJ Medical College in the Meghani Nagar area of Gujarat's Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The tragedy claimed 241 lives out of 242 onboard, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Doctor removed from Air India flight at Bengaluru over threats to bring down plane: Report
Authorities in Bengaluru have filed a case against a local medical professional accused of causing a disturbance on an Air India flight bound for Surat, Gujarat. The incident, involving 36-year-old Dr Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai of Yelahanka, reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon, around 2:45 pm, The Indian Express reported. According to official statements, Dr Mohanbhai allegedly demanded that cabin crew carry her hand baggage, which she had left in the front row, to her designated seat at 20F. When questioned about the inappropriate placement of her bag, she reportedly became agitated. The cabin crew promptly informed the pilot, who attempted to de-escalate the matter. However, the passenger allegedly continued to behave disruptively, leading to her removal from the plane before take-off. The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) police have since registered a case against Dr Mohanbhai. She faces charges under several sections, including Section 351(4) for criminal intimidation, Section 353(1)(b) for making statements intended to cause public alarm under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3(1)(a) of the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, which addresses actions that may jeopardize the safety of an aircraft, the report noted. ‘Keep my bag or I'll crash the plane': Bengaluru-Surat Air India flight delayed as doctor threatens crew; deboarded
BENGALURU: A 36-year-old doctor was arrested on Tuesday after she created ruckus aboard an Air India flight from Bengaluru to Surat and allegedly threatened to crash the aircraft when cabin crew objected to her placing baggage in a restricted area near the crew cabin. The accused, identified as Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, from Shivanahalli near Yelahanka, was travelling alone on AI Flight IX2749 with two pieces of baggage. According to police, the Ayurvedic doctor bypassed the check-in counter, insisting on carrying both bags on board. The situation escalated after Mohanbhai boarded the flight and left one of her bags near the crew cabin while taking the other to her seat, 20F. Woman deboarded after alert from flight captain When the cabin crew asked her to keep the bag in the overhead compartment near her seat, she refused and insisted they keep it with them. Despite repeated requests by the crew and later the captain, Mohanbhai refused to comply and began abusing the staff. The confrontation soon involved fellow passengers, who also tried to reason with her, but she reportedly shouted at them. At one point, she allegedly threatened to crash the flight if the crew moved her baggage. With the situation spiralling, the captain alerted security and called CISF personnel, who boarded the aircraft and offloaded her. The incident took place between 2.45pm and 5.30pm, according to a complaint filed by Agnimitra Bahinipati, associate manager of security at KIA. Police said Mohanbhai did not stop there. Once taken to KIA police station, she continued to abuse and manhandle police officers, creating further disturbance. Her husband, who works in an educational institution in the city and hails from Odisha, appeared before police. Police are now verifying her background and previous incidents.
