Promoting volunteer work
On this occasion, Fatima Musa, Executive Director of SAVW, confirmed that these activities come within the framework of the award's efforts to promote the concept of volunteer work as a fundamental value in the Emirati community, especially since the award takes advantage of community and religious occasions and events to enhance its communication with the community in order to promote the values of volunteering in various ways.
Musa pointed out that the holy month of Ramadan represents an ideal opportunity to enhance the spirit of cooperation and giving, and SAVW seeks through these activities to spread the message of volunteering as a means to achieve sustainable development, and support the values of compassion and solidarity among members of society.
Engaging all age groups
Musa added that the award is keen to attract all age groups from society to participate in these awareness events, with the aim of enhancing their role in effectively contributing to building a brighter future based on cooperation and humanitarian work.
Sharjah Award for Voluntary Work calls on all members of society to benefit from these activities and participate in spreading the values of goodness and giving during the holy month.

His Highness then visited the Quran House, situated beneath the courtyard of the Masjid Misr. While there, His Highness learned about the special room dedicated to Quran reciters. This room showcases the personal items and stories of notable Quran reciters from the country, including Sheikh Mahmoud Khalil Al Hosary, Sheikh Taha Al Fashni, and Sheikh Mustafa Ismail. His Highness explored the beautifully adorned corridors featuring Quranic verses, which led him to the Quran halls. Each of the 30 rooms in the halls is dedicated to a specific part of the Holy Quran, with walls intricately carved to showcase complete sections of the text. These rooms are also equipped with listening devices designed to facilitate the memorization of the Holy Quran. His Highness examined the centre's comprehensive layout, admired the aesthetic designs, and appreciated the murals inscribed with Quranic verses. His Highness also took note of the centre's collection of notable historical Qurans and religious artifacts. His Highness also paid a visit to Masjid Misr, the largest mosque in the country and the third-largest in the world. It can hold up to 12,000 worshippers inside, but when considering the entire area, it can accommodate around 137,000 people. The mosque is renowned for its stunning architectural design, featuring two tall minarets that rise 148 meters into the sky, and a main dome that measures 29.5 meters in diameter and weighs an impressive 500 tons. There are also 20 smaller domes throughout the building. Additionally, the wooden pulpit in the mosque holds the title for the largest of its kind in the world, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

"University Student' and "Volunteer Knight' awards The "University Student' award for the highest volunteer participation targets university students aged 17 to 25 who are not employed. Volunteer work completed during the year of participation, totaling more than 100 hours, must be documented on official volunteer platforms. The "Volunteer Knight' award for the Highest Volunteer Participation" is open to school students over the age of 13, who must be enrolled in a school and have completed at least 100 volunteer hours through opportunities offered in the community. During the 22nd edition of the award's Volunteer Honours, held recently under the patronage and attendance of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, Batoul Saadi Ibrahim Al Najjar won first place in the University Student category after completing 1,943 volunteer hours. Tabarak Saadi Ibrahim Al Najjar won first place in the school student category after completing 1,606 volunteer hours. Instilling a culture of volunteer work among the young generation Suad Al Shamsi, Executive Director of SAVW, emphasised that the award seeks to instill a culture of volunteer work among the young generation and support their qualitative contributions in various fields that serve the community. Al Shamsi noted that volunteering contributes to honing students' skills and fostering a sense of giving and belonging, especially since they represent the future of volunteer work. Al Shamsi commended the efforts of university students who devote significant time and effort to volunteer work despite their academic commitments. She commended the initiatives of some public and private universities that have adopted volunteer hours as part of their graduation requirements. Important role of schools Al Shamsi also commended the role of schools in encouraging students to volunteer within the school environment. She explained that the "Volunteer Knight" award aims to instil the values of volunteer work in children, contributing to the formation of their societal personalities and enhancing their skills and knowledge. She added that the award also organises programmes, lectures, and workshops targeting school students, with the goal of investing their free time in a positive way that benefits them and the community.

Students from low-income families to receive 10,000 school bags across UAE
In line with the declaration of the "Year of the Community," Dubai Cares, in partnership with Aldar Properties as the exclusive sponsor, organised a new edition of the "Volunteer in the UAE - Back to School" initiative in Abu Dhabi. This follows the initiative's remarkable success in 2024, when 10,000 school bags were assembled for students from low-income families across the UAE, with the participation of over 450 volunteers, including 80 Aldar employees. Abdullah Ahmed Al Shehhi, Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Cares, stated: "In the Year of the Community, the success of this initiative is a true testament to the spirit of unity and shared purpose which defines our nation. Without the generous support of Aldar Properties and the exceptional commitment of volunteers, this achievement would not have been possible'. Salwa Al Muflahi, Executive Director of Sustainability and Community Engagement at Aldar Properties, commented: "We believe that building a thriving and inclusive society begins with ensuring every child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential. "Seeing hundreds of volunteers come together was a powerful reminder of the social cohesion that characterises the UAE. This initiative is not just about providing school supplies, but it is a real investment in local communities and a guarantee of prosperity for the UAE and its residents'. Mohammed Al Balushi, an Emirati volunteer, shared: "I'm delighted to be in Abu Dhabi and participate in this initiative as a long-time volunteer. It always brings me joy to be part of an effort which puts smiles on children's faces. I'm confident that students will be overjoyed to receive their new school bags filled with everything they need to start the academic year with confidence and enthusiasm'. It is worth noting that the school bags will be distributed to various schools across the UAE to support students in their academic journey, including Al Ihsan Charity Association in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, and surrounding areas, Ittihad Charity Foundation in Ajman, National Charity School in Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, Hemaya School in Dubai, Tolerance School in Abu Dhabi, Al Tafawoq Private School, and Al Dhaid Private School in Al Dhaid, Sharjah and Umm Al Qura Private School in Umm Al Quwain.
