Power Ministry unveils task force to conceive India Energy Stack
New Delhi: The Ministry of Power on Saturday announced the launch of a task force to conceive the
India Energy Stack
(IES), an initiative aimed at creating a unified, secure, and interoperable
digital public infrastructure
(DPI) for the energy sector.
The IES will play a vital role in integrating renewable energy, enhancing
DISCOM efficiency
, and delivering transparent, reliable, and future-ready power services, an official statement quoted Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar as saying.
"There is an urgent need for developing robust DPI in the power sector to manage the country's rising demand, ensure grid stability, and empower consumers. What Aadhaar did for identity and UPI achieved for digital payments, the India Energy Stack will accomplish for the power sector - unlocking seamless, secure, and consumer-centric energy services for every citizen," he added.
As India charts its path to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy and advances towards its net-zero commitments, the power sector faces both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges, the statement said.
Rapid growth in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and consumer participation in energy markets is transforming the sector, but fragmented systems and a lack of seamless digital integration remain key barriers, it pointed out.
To address these issues, the ministry is reimagining the sector's digital foundation through the IES - a DPI that will provide a standardised, secure, and open platform to manage, monitor, and innovate across the electricity value chain.
The IES will offer unique IDs for consumers, assets, and transactions; real-time, consent-based data sharing; open APIs(Application Programming Interface) for seamless system integration; and tools for consumer empowerment, market access, and innovation.
Apart from conceiving the IES, the ministry will undertake a 12-month
Proof of Concept
(PoC) to demonstrate IES through real-world use cases in partnership with selected utilities.
This includes piloting the
Utility Intelligence Platform
(UIP), a modular, analytics-driven application built on IES to support utilities, policymakers, and consumers with real-time insights and smarter energy management.
To guide these initiatives, the ministry has constituted a dedicated task force comprising experts from the technology, power sector, and regulatory domains, which will steer the development, pilot implementation, and nationwide scale-up of the IES.

Train reservation chart set to be prepared 8 hours before departure
The Railway Board has proposed preparing the seat reservation chart eight hours before a train's departure. The chart is currently prepared four hours before departure. Officials said that for trains departing before 2 pm, the chart will be prepared the previous day at 9 pm itself. A senior official of the Ministry of Railways said that under the current system, passengers arriving at stations from distant areas would have little clarity on their waitlisted ticket's status while leaving their home. 'Now, passengers will get the update on waitlist status well in advance. There were many complaints regarding the chart preparation time. The passengers coming from remote areas or suburbs of major cities to the Railway Station for taking long distance trains had to go back many times because of non-confirmation of the waitlisted ticket. Now, such passengers will get time to make alternative arrangements,' said the official quoted above. The official said that Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has directed the board to start implementing this move in phases to avoid disruption. Vaishnaw also reviewed the upgradation of the passenger reservation system, which is expected to enhance the ticket booking capacity by over 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute. This will be an increase of around five times from 32,000 tickets per minute in the current system. 'The ticket enquiry capacity will increase ten times from 4 lakh to over 40 lakh enquiry per minute time. Further, OTP-based authentication will be done for Tatkal bookings from the end of July, 2025. The authentication should be done using Aadhaar or any other verifiable Government ID available in the user's DigiLocker account,' said the official. K'taka Bank MD & exec director quit
MUMBAI: Karnataka Bank on Saturday saw both its MD & CEO, Srikrishnan Hari Hara Sarma, and executive director, Sekhar Rao, resign, marking a major leadership shake-up for the century-old private lender. To maintain operational stability during the transition, the board appointed Raghavendra Srinivas Bhat as COO, effective July 2. The leadership exits come after a year of growing strain within the bank. Governance tensions came to a head in May when the bank's auditors flagged certain overlimit expenses. The board refused to ratify the expenditures and asked for the amounts to be recovered. The standoff between the board and management that followed was considered unprecedented for the institution. Adding to the pressure, Karnataka Bank in Feb had to reverse Rs 18.87 crore worth of suspicious cross-border UPI transactions due to reconciliation failures. A forensic audit was ordered in April at the direction of the board and the RBI. The bank has since stated that the audit observations have been amicably resolved and that it remains well-capitalised.
