Documentary on life in Green Bank to screen in Morgantown
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Emotional stories from the residents and scientists living in Green Bank, West Virginia will be coming to the big screen in Morgantown in an award-winning documentary this March.
'Small Town Universe,' directed by Emmy-nominated Director Katie Dellamaggiore, is about 'stories of love, loss, resilience, hope, scientific discovery, and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence in Green Bank, WV, a small town with a big telescope.'
The exclusive screening of the documentary will take place on March 7 in Ming Hsieh Hall, room G20 on West Virginia University's downtown campus. The event is free for anyone to attend but is limited by the amount of space available.
A reception starts at 6:30 p.m. with the documentary screening scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. A panel discussion will be held after the documentary where Dellamaggiore will join local scientists, humanity scholars, and other experts to discuss the film and take questions.
Green Bank, West Virginia is a truly unique place in America due to its location inside the National Radio Quiet Zone (NRQZ), which strictly regulates electromagnetic waves in the area. Everyday electronics like computers, Wi-Fi and even microwaves are limited or outright banned, resulting in a community abnormally detached from technology in a world that becomes more and more digital with each passing year.

In the trailer for the documentary, interview subjects discuss how the unique environment of Green Bank shapes the lives of the residents and scientists that live there. Although the NRQZ can pose many challenges, like reduced access to emergency services, residents in the trailer say they prefer a life that is more separated from technology.
In 2014, Dellamaggiore was nominated for 'Outstanding Coverage of a Current News Story – Long Form' at the 2014 Emmys for her documentary, 'Brooklyn Castle,' which dives into the story of a junior high school's champion chess team.

Jonathan Bailey Recalls Awkward Moment In "Wicked"
Jonathan Bailey has admitted he and his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande had a bit of an awkward moment when they were still getting to know one another. The British actor plays Fieryo in both Wicked and its much-hyped sequel, shooting both films back-to-back in a rather hectic time for his career, during which he was also making the TV shows Bridgerton and Fellow Travellers. As a result, Jonathan told British GQ that his rehearsal time on the movie was rather limited, with the Emmy nominee having just three days to prepare before filming began. 'I remember having four hours to learn how to do a dance move,' he explained. 'I did it with Ari, headbutted her, and was like, 'Gotta go!'' He quipped: 'I think she might have even headbutted me, but it was a meeting of minds, literally.' Fortunately, despite the literal tête-à-tête, he and the "Twilight Zone" singer went on to forge a strong friendship, at one point even attending Wimbledon together during their Wicked downtime. Last year, Jonathan spoke candidly about the toll that shooting multiple projects at the same time took on one particular aspect of his appearance. He claimed that having a perm for Bridgerton and a straight do for Fellow Travellers left his hair 'looking like coral' – and as a result, he had to sport a 'big old toupée' to play Fiyero in Wicked. 'I'm in the choreography so it's flapping about!' he joked to Variety during an Actors On Actors interview with Naomi Watts. Wicked For Good sees Jonathan once again sharing the screen with the likes of Cynthia Erivo, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh, in the movie adaptation of the stage musical's second act. The first trailer for the sequel was released on Wednesday night, ahead of its worldwide release on Friday 21 November.

Here Are the Performers & Presenters for the 2025 Tony Awards
The Tony Awards on Sunday night (June 8) will include performances from all five nominees for best musical and all four nominees for best revival of a musical — as well as two more 2024-25 shows — Just in Time, which stars Tony-nominated Jonathan Groff as legendary performer Bobby Darin, and Real Women Have Curves, which features Tony-nominated Justina Machado. There will also be a special 10th anniversary salute to Hamilton, with a performance by that show's original cast. Three of that show's stars, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Ariana DeBose, are also set to present on the show. Brian Stokes Mitchell, who won a Tony for in 2000 for a revival of Kiss Me, Kate, will serve as the show's announcer. The show will air from Radio City Music Hall in New York City for the first time in three years. Other presenters include Adam Lambert, who played the emcee in Cabaret on Broadway; Lea Michele, who starred on Broadway in a revival of Funny Girl; and Sara Bareilles, a three-time Tony nominee and past Tonys cohost. The sale took place on Wednesday, June 4, at Doyle's "The Collection of Mary Tyler Moore" auction. The humble prop was the highlight of the auction, receiving a ton of interest due to its prominence in the background of a beloved sitcom, which aired from 1970 to 1977. Original estimates had the piece going for anywhere from $5,000 to 8,000. The piece far exceeded expectations, opening at $14,000 and ultimately selling for a stunning $35,200. In a statement about the sale, Waithe shares, "I will cherish this piece of television history for the rest of my life. I feel honored to have custody of it until it's time to pass it along to someone else." Moore began leading The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970, not long after her starring role on The Dick Van Dyke Show. The show was produced by her company, MTM Enterprises, which was behind many successful TV series. Her TV alter ego, Mary Richards, was not that different from the real Moore, the late actress once told PEOPLE in 1974. 'I never went the actors' studio route. I'm not an actress who can create a character. I play me. I'm scared that if I tamper with it I might ruin it,' she shared, noting her single girl character happened, in part, because she didn't want to play married again, and CBS didn't want her character to be divorced.
