New Alamein city named Arab Summer Capital for 2025 - Sponsored
In a significant boost to Egypt's growing tourism sector, the Arab Tourism Organization has announced the selection of the New Alamein City as the Arab Summer Capital for 2025.
The announcement comes as a recognition of the city's rapid development and its emergence as a premier coastal destination in the Arab world.
New Alamein was chosen after meeting the organization's comprehensive criteria, which include effective resort management, modern infrastructure, recreational and leisure facilities, environmental sustainability, public safety and health standards, and responsiveness to evolving tourism trends. The city also scored highly on performance measurement and evaluation indicators.
With its pristine beaches, advanced urban planning, world-class hospitality services, and ability to host major cultural and entertainment events, New Alamein has quickly established itself as a regional magnet for both local and international tourists. The city has become synonymous with luxury tourism and dynamic summer experiences, offering a variety of attractions ranging from festivals and concerts to water sports and family-friendly resorts.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy welcomed the announcement, describing it as a proud moment for Egypt and a testament to the state's strategic vision for developing coastal cities that combine sustainable urban planning with upscale tourism offerings.
Fathy noted that in celebration of the designation, a year-long series of cultural, artistic, and entertainment events will be organized throughout 2025 in collaboration with local and regional partners.
These initiatives aim to enrich the visitor experience and further position New Alamein as a top-tier destination on the Arab tourism map.
The Arab Tourism Organization awards the Arab Summer Capital title annually to a city that demonstrates outstanding performance in beach and summer tourism. Previous winners of the title have reported significant increases in tourist arrivals, along with improved tourism services and regional cooperation.
With this new accolade, New Alamein joins a select group of Arab cities recognized for excellence in tourism, reinforcing Egypt's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence in the sector.

These visits were marked by the signing of numerous cooperation documents across education, culture, technology, environment, and investment. 'We are now living in the golden period of our relations,' Ambassador Gamil said. 'Our peoples have shared a deep connection for centuries—this new chapter is only building on that foundation.' She highlighted the significance of mutual endorsements, including Armenia's support for Egypt's candidate to lead UNESCO, and emphasized how both nations are now actively advancing cooperation in fields such as renewable energy, information technology, and environmental protection. Economic exchange, while historically modest, is expected to grow substantially due to targeted efforts in trade facilitation and joint business initiatives. The Ambassador also celebrated the strong cultural and tourism ties between the two nations. Thousands of Armenians visit Egypt annually, especially to destinations like Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. She expressed confidence that the opening of Egypt's Grand Egyptian Museum in July would further boost cultural tourism and joint heritage initiatives. On regional matters, Ambassador Gamil expressed full support for Armenia's 'Crossroads of Peace' initiative, describing it as an inclusive strategy for connectivity and long-term regional peace. She drew parallels with the founding of the European Union, noting how shared economic interests can lay the foundation for political stability. The Ambassador praised the Armenian government's growing engagement with Arab nations, reflected in the opening of several Arab embassies in Yerevan. She confirmed that additional high-level Egyptian ministerial visits to Armenia are currently being planned. Reflecting on her personal experience, Ambassador Gamil spoke fondly of the Armenian community in Egypt and her admiration for Armenian cultural resilience and environmental consciousness. OPEN// FM says Egypt keen to foster relations with Morocco in various areas
CAIRO, May 29 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said Egypt is keen on fostering relations with Morocco in various fields, lauding the existing coordination and consultation between the two countries. Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday in Rabat with Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami. The top Egyptian diplomat expressed hope for holding the fourth edition of the coordination and consultation Mechanism at the level of foreign ministers. The minister stated Egypt pays great attention to enhancing trade, industrial and investment ties with Morocco and building on the important outcomes of the visit of Egyptian Investment Minister Hassan El Khatib to Morocco in February 2025 and the visit of Moroccan Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade Omar Hejira to Cairo in May 2025, with a view to promoting bilateral trade and establishing successful partnerships between the two countries' private sectors. Abdelatty noted Egyptian companies stand ready to participate in infrastructure projects being carried out in Morocco, in preparation for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Meanwhile, the foreign minister lauded the effective role of the Moroccan Parliament at the Arab, African, Mediterranean and Latin America levels. In this regard, Abdelatty commended the Moroccan parliamentary diplomacy's part in supporting Arab issues, notably the Palestinian one, in international parliamentary forums. He added the Egyptian Parliament looks forward to exchanging experience with its Moroccan counterpart, especially with regard to issues of common concern. The foreign minister stressed Egypt's keenness to increase the exchange of visits between speakers of the two countries' legislative bodies, highlighting the visit of Senate Speaker Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq to Morocco in April 2025. Egypt announces five-day holiday for public sector on Eid El-Adha starting 6 June - Society
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced a five-day paid holiday for public sector employees to mark Eid al-Adha. The holiday will run from Thursday, 5 June, to Monday, 9 June, 2025, according to a cabinet decree. The decision applies to employees at ministries, government departments, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies, a cabinet statement read. However, exams scheduled during this period will proceed as planned according to the schedule set by the relevant authorities. Muslims around the world will celebrate the four-day Islamic feast starting Friday, 6 June, after confirming the sighting of the moon for the Islamic month of Dhul-Hijja. Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims, along with Eid Al-Fitr. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It also marks the start of the annual Hajj or the Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and must be undertaken at least once by all Muslims who have the means to do so. More than one million pilgrims from various countries have already arrived in Saudi Arabia for this year's Hajj, according to Saudi authorities.
