OPEN// FM says Egypt keen to foster relations with Morocco in various areas
Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday in Rabat with Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami.
The top Egyptian diplomat expressed hope for holding the fourth edition of the coordination and consultation Mechanism at the level of foreign ministers.
The minister stated Egypt pays great attention to enhancing trade, industrial and investment ties with Morocco and building on the important outcomes of the visit of Egyptian Investment Minister Hassan El Khatib to Morocco in February 2025 and the visit of Moroccan Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Trade Omar Hejira to Cairo in May 2025, with a view to promoting bilateral trade and establishing successful partnerships between the two countries' private sectors.
Abdelatty noted Egyptian companies stand ready to participate in infrastructure projects being carried out in Morocco, in preparation for hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Meanwhile, the foreign minister lauded the effective role of the Moroccan Parliament at the Arab, African, Mediterranean and Latin America levels.
In this regard, Abdelatty commended the Moroccan parliamentary diplomacy's part in supporting Arab issues, notably the Palestinian one, in international parliamentary forums.
He added the Egyptian Parliament looks forward to exchanging experience with its Moroccan counterpart, especially with regard to issues of common concern.
The foreign minister stressed Egypt's keenness to increase the exchange of visits between speakers of the two countries' legislative bodies, highlighting the visit of Senate Speaker Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq to Morocco in April 2025. (MENA)

During the weekly press conference led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, several major files were discussed on both the domestic and international fronts. The political and diplomatic segment of the conference reviewed the outcomes of a recent summit between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's historical rights to Nile waters, while also emphasizing support for development projects in Nile Basin countries, provided they do not infringe on Egypt's national interests. The conference also covered Prime Minister Madbouly's meeting with Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Kamal El-Tayeb Idris, which focused on expanding electrical grid interconnection projects and enhancing cooperation in trade, education, tourism, and antiquities. In addition, Madbouly's visit to Jordan and his meeting with King Abdullah II were addressed, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation in energy, transportation, and industrial integration, as well as the situation of Egyptian labor in Jordan and the signing of new bilateral agreements. On the domestic front, El-Homsany reassured the public regarding the controversial amendments to the old rent law. He explained that the Cabinet has approved a draft resolution to regulate landlord-tenant relationships, particularly in non-residential leases. The reforms include the establishment of committees to survey such properties and determine minimum rent levels. An online platform and post office network have been launched to receive applications from affected tenants seeking alternative housing, with units to be allocated based on clear eligibility criteria within three months. The press conference also touched on major urban development projects, including the renovation of Downtown Cairo, the Fustat Gardens, set for completion by September 30, and the Azbakeya Wall and Park restoration. Addressing concerns circulating on social media, El-Homsany stressed that historical assets are not being sold, but rather will be leveraged through partnerships with the private sector to maximize public benefit. Finally, the Cabinet discussed progress on a comprehensive plan to overhaul Egypt's media landscape, with the strategy soon to be presented to President Sisi. Central Bank of Egypt Eases Rules on Credit Card Use Abroad
Taarek Refaat The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has officially relaxed a key restriction on the use of credit cards abroad, signaling a shift in the country's foreign exchange management policies following recent economic reforms. In a decision announced this week, the CBE canceled a clause from a previous directive issued in October 2023. The now-removed clause had required banks to track the international use of credit cards by verifying exit and entry stamps on customers' passports within 90 days of activating their cards for international use. Under the previous rule, customers had to submit travel documentation to confirm they were physically abroad when using their cards, as a measure to control foreign currency outflows. Failure to do so could result in card restrictions or penalties. With the new directive in place, customers are no longer obligated to provide banks with such documentation. Egyptian banks will continue to allow credit card usage abroad, applying foreign exchange fees as usual, but without demanding proof of travel. Policy Shift Reflects Improved Currency Conditions This regulatory easing follows the unification of Egypt's exchange rate in March 2025, a move that aligned the official and parallel market rates and helped stabilize the country's foreign currency environment. As a result, the stringent controls previously considered necessary to prevent misuse of foreign exchange channels have become less relevant.
