Go Siyaha Expands Access to Boost Tourism Entrepreneurship in Morocco

Fez– The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism has announced three major updates to the Go Siyaha program, aimed at making it more accessible and impactful for tourism entrepreneurs across the country. These changes are designed to encourage investment, foster innovation, and generate new jobs in the sector. The new eligibility conditions will take effect starting Tuesday, July 22, 2025. According to the ministry, Go Siyaha has already supported 1,000 projects to date. With growing interest among young entrepreneurs and untapped potential in tourism, the program is now being adapted to meet the evolving needs of project holders. Key changes to the program The minimum investment threshold has been removed. One of the most significant updates is the removal of the minimum investment requirement of MAD 1 million. This change allows smaller projects, often led by young or first-time entrepreneurs, to qualify for funding and support. It also opens the door to a wider range of initiatives, including local cooperatives, guesthouses with cultural experiences, and community-based activity centers. 2. Investment support is now available for existing businesses. Previously, only newly established companies could apply for investment support under Go Siyaha. With this update, existing tourism businesses that are launching new entertainment or activity-based services will also be eligible. The ministry noted that this expansion will help leverage the experience of established businesses and speed up the development of high-potential projects. 3. Technical assistance now offered from start for new businesses. The program's technical assistance component, which was once limited to operational businesses, will now be made available from the very beginning of the project. New entrepreneurs will receive help with structuring their ideas, preparing funding applications, and building a solid foundation for their launch. This aims to address the common hurdles faced by newcomers and help them get off the ground faster. 'These improvements reflect our commitment to staying aligned with the real needs of tourism entrepreneurs,' said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, according to MAP. She added that the changes are designed to allow more Moroccan talent to develop creative, regionally tailored tourism projects. The updated Go Siyaha program is part of the national tourism roadmap for 2023–2026. It aims to support 1,700 tourism businesses by 2026, focusing especially on developing tourism-related entertainment and diversifying Morocco's overall tourism offering. Through this more flexible and inclusive approach, the government hopes to create lasting impact within the tourism sector, stimulate innovation, and encourage investment at all levels. Throne Day: Celebrating Forward-Looking Royal Vision for Emerging, Modern & Prosperous Morocco

Moroccans will celebrate the glorious Throne Day on July 30, an occasion to proudly celebrate the proactive, foresighted and forward-looking vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who transformed the Kingdom into an emerging, modern and prosperous country. Throne Day stands as a powerful moment of national unity, as well as an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and to look toward an even more promising future. It is the resounding expression of unwavering bonds between the Glorious Alaouite Throne and the loyal Moroccan people. This year's anniversary of the King's Accession to the Throne comes as the Kingdom is reaping the fruits of 26 years of tireless work, under a modernist project shaped and implemented through the impetus of a visionary Sovereign. Major structural reforms have deeply transformed Morocco economically, socially, culturally, institutionally, and in the realm of sports, driven by a dynamic wave of all-encompassing reforms that have touched all vital sectors of the country and the entire national territory. This was echoed by Former head of Spanish government José-Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, in an interview with MAP-Madrid, underlining that today, more than ever, Morocco stands as a 'beacon of economic, social and institutional modernization'. Nowadays, the Kingdom boasts high-quality infrastructure in diverse areas, including highways and expressways, with a network exceeding 2,000 km and expected to reach 3,000 km by 2030; Africa's first high-speed rail line (LGV); and world-class ports such as Tanger Med, ranked among the top 20 container ports globally and the leading port in both the Mediterranean and Africa. Other ambitious projects include Nador West Med and Dakhla Atlantique ports. To many observers, Morocco stands out in energy and green transition as a global and African leader in renewables, with internationally renowned solar and wind power plants and ambitious green hydrogen production projects. Economically, the Kingdom is now recognized as a logistics and industrial hub in strategic sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and agri-food. Today, it is currently well-positioned to join the top 50 of the World Bank's "Doing Business" rankings. These extensive efforts are accompanied by significant social and human development reforms, reflecting His Majesty the King's deep humanistic and social sensibility, who continuously places a high priority on ensuring disadvantaged populations benefit from the benefits of national development. In an interview with MAP-Paris, French geopolitician Frédéric Encel noted that Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is engaged in an 'impressive' development momentum, earning it recognition as 'a true emerging country'. In this spirit, programs such as the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) and the massive project of universal social coverage are ongoing, alongside flagship projects such as the reform of the Family Code, digitalization of public services, and the education sector. Since His Majesty's accession to the throne, Morocco has strengthened its geopolitical positioning through efficient, assertive and proactive diplomacy, securing numerous achievements in defending the Kingdom's territorial integrity. In an interview with MAP-Brussels, Francis Delpérée, constitutional expert and former Belgian senator, joined in praising the diplomatic advancements achieved by the Kingdom, thanks to the insightful vision of His Majesty the King. To him, these successes have helped garner broad international support, particularly from major world powers, for a definitive resolution of the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, based on the Moroccan Autonomy Plan. In recent years, Morocco's national cause has made significant strides thanks to the strong impetus and direct involvement of His Majesty the King, who has laid out the Kingdom's fundamental stance on the Moroccan Sahara. Following the United States, Spain, France, and recently the United Kingdom have aligned with this approach. In total, no fewer than 123 countries globally now support Morocco's Autonomy Initiative. On the African continent, Morocco continues to build its presence and image as a nation that acts for Africans and with Africans. Following its triumphant return to the African Union in 2017, Morocco launched major initiatives for the continent, including the Royal Atlantic Initiative, enabling Atlantic Ocean access to the landlocked Sahel countries, and the African Atlantic States Process, along with the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline. Sports is another sector where Morocco has made major strides in recent years. Results on the ground reflect the rising profile of national sport, guided by a perceptive and visionary Royal Vision. Morocco, the first Arab and African country to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, continues to shine in sports, through competitive performance, infrastructure development, and training programs. Crowning this momentum, Morocco has been chosen by FIFA to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. This is the first time the tournament will be held across two continents, underscoring Morocco's unique role as a bridge between North and South. In this regard, Zapatero expressed confidence in Morocco's ability to successfully co-host the 2030 World Cup, highlighting the country's 'professionalism,' 'infrastructure,' and the 'enthusiasm' of the Moroccan people. Throne Day remains a solemn moment for all Moroccans to jointly celebrate these achievements, reflecting the maturity of a societal project crafted and led by a visionary Sovereign who remains attentive to His people and their concerns. 'Popular Party' Insists On Madrid's Retraction Of Its Position On Western Sahara

Relations between the Moroccan regime and Spain's leading political force are heading for further escalation, with relations with Algeria and the position on the Sahrawi issue in the background, in the biggest crisis between Rabat and Madrid since Spain changed its position on the Western Sahara issue more than three years ago. Relations between Rabat and Madrid are experiencing a non-silent crisis marked by statements and counter-statements, which erupted since the conservative Spanish Popular Party strongly attacked its country's government at its general conference about a week ago, on the grounds that the ruling party's position on the Sahrawi issue harmed relations with Algeria, which it described as a 'neighboring and great country'. For the second time in a week, the Popular Party, a strong candidate to lead the Spanish government after the upcoming legislative elections, affirmed that its position on relations with Algeria and the Sahrawi issue is 'declared and known'. The party also affirmed on Monday, according to 'Europa Press agency', that in any case, Spanish foreign policy 'is not subordinate to others', in reference to what it considers the ruling party's subordination, led by Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister, to external influences that led to Spain changing its position on the Sahrawi issue and the resulting crises with Algeria. The official spokesperson for the Spanish Popular Party and Deputy Minister of Culture, Borja Sémper, was asked at the press conference following the meeting of the party's steering committee whether its president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, planned to respond to the letter sent to him by the head of the Moroccan Istiqlal Party, Nizar Baraka, regarding the ambiguity of the Spanish party's position. He replied: 'Our position is declared and known, unlike the decisions taken by this government regarding (Western) Sahara, which are secret.' Although the Spanish party is not in power, even if it is a strong candidate for it, its position caused an earthquake for the Moroccan regime, which was reflected in the state of confusion that characterized Rabat's positions. It proceeded to close two customs offices in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, a clear retreat from the agreement to normalize relations between the two countries in the spring of 2022 after Sánchez changed his position on the Sahrawi issue. The 'Istiqlal Party', which is the political arm of the Moroccan regime, also attacked its Spanish counterpart because of the concluding statement of its conference, which was previously referred to, accusing it of a lack of clarity in its position on the Western Sahara issue, as well as hosting representatives of the Polisario Front. The Popular Party leader added: 'We have always expressed the same position,' stressing: 'We have always expressed the same position, and it is the position we adhere to today as well,' in a clear and explicit challenge to the Moroccan regime and its political arm, the Istiqlal Party, where he stressed that his party calls for 'respect for international law and United Nations resolutions,' knowing that United Nations resolutions call for organizing a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, based on the ceasefire agreement signed in 1991, and the United Nations still maintains a mission to organize the referendum in Western Sahara, which is called 'MINURSO'. In a message to Pedro Sánchez's government, the spokesperson for the Popular Party (PP) said that 'our country's foreign policy is decided by our country.' Sémper added: 'It is not subject to or influenced by other countries,' in reference to the firm belief among many specialists and observers in Spain that the Sánchez government's decision to change its position on the Sahrawi issue came in the context of pressure it was subjected to by the Moroccan regime, which used the migrant card to 'subdue' Sánchez. The Popular Party leader also explained: 'We have defined our position, and we believe that Spain should define its position based on the interests of the Spanish people and our traditions, also in some areas, especially in this area.' It is worth noting that the opposition Popular Party had strongly criticized the Madrid government's change of position on the Sahrawi issue, and on many occasions led attempts to withdraw confidence, but the game of alliances prevented that. However, the involvement of Sánchez's family and his party's entourage have significantly weakened his chances of remaining at the head of the government after the upcoming legislative elections.
