Michael Jackson biopic 'Michael' delayed

During Lionsgate's Q4 2025 earnings call, CEO Jon Feltheimer shared an update on the film starring Jackson's nephew Jaafar Jackson, who makes his screen debut in the project.
"In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we're excited about the 3 1/2 hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy & timing in the next few weeks. I would note that it is likely we will move 'Michael' out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal '26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal '27 slate," said Feltheimer as quoted by Variety.
The fiscal calendar ends on March 31, 2026, so Feltheimer's statement indicates that the film (or films) will likely debut after April 1, 2026.
Last month, Variety reported that the film would likely be split into two parts and be pushed from the initially announced release date of Oct. 3, 2025.
As per Feltheimer's statement, the film is likely to debut after April 1, 2026, as the fiscal calendar of 2026 ends on March 31.
The highly awaited 'Michael' was a major part of last year's Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, however, no footage from the project was shown during this year's outing.
The film is produced by "Bohemian Rhapsody's" Graham King. The principal photography of the film was wrapped in May 2024, but John Logan's script is in the process of being revised in advance of reshoots, reported Variety.
As per the outlet, the'Michael,' stars Colman Domingo and Nia Long as family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson, while Miles Teller will play Jackson's attorney and advisor John Branca.
Larenz Tate will star as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, while Laura Harrier will portray pioneering female music executive Suzanne de Passe and Kat Graham will appear as the legendary Diana Ross.
Other cast members of the film include Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, Michael's older sister; Liv Symone as Gladys Knight; Kevin Shinick as Dick Clark; KeiLyn Durrel Jones as Jackson's former security-turned-trusted friend and confidante Bill Bray; and Kendrick Sampson as industry icon Quincy Jones, who first met Michael Jackson when he was just 12 years old, reported Variety.
The pair would go on to collaborate on three of Michael's most successful albums: 1979's "Off the Wall," 1982's "Thriller", and 1987's "Bad."

Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto has been accused by at least nine women of sexually inappropriate behaviour as of June 7. The claims were first reported by Air Mail, which noted that some of the alleged victims were underage at the time of their interactions with the actor-musician. Leto's representatives have since issued a statement, flat-out denying the accusations on all counts. However, an anonymous woman told the outlet, 'It's been an open secret for a long time.' Los Angeles-based DJ Allie Teilz, one of the very first accusers, reposted her decade-old Facebook post where she claimed Leto tried to force himself on her backstage. She also called the Dallas Buyers Club star 'Hollywood's most persistent predator in a kilt.' In another post, she said she was underage when the incident happened and claimed he knew it but didn't care. 'I was assaulted and traumatised by this creep when I was 17,' she wrote, adding, 'What he did was predatory, terrifying, and unacceptable.' In response to the accusations, Leto's rep said, 'Ms. Teilz's allegations are demonstrably false.' The outlet reported that Leto walked out of his room without any clothes on in front of her. Leto's representative claimed that their communication was not inappropriate and that La Rue had even applied to work for them. But La Rue denied ever applying. An anonymous woman who spoke to the outlet claimed she started texting Leto when she was underage. She alleged their encounters turned sexual when she was 18 and that one experience left her feeling uncomfortable. A fourth person claimed she met the actor at a café when she was 16, and said their conversations later made her uneasy. 'He'd ask things like, 'Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever…' she said. 'He changed his voice, the way he talked. It scared me. That was the first time I thought, 'Oh my God, that's not just in movies.'' Another accuser said Leto called her late at night and made remarks that crossed the line. She speculated he might have been on drugs or something, to which Leto's team responded, saying he 'has not had a drink or used drugs in over 35 years.' India's highest-paid OTT actor earned ₹125 crore for 7 episodes, more than Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan's salary

In fact, this A-list Bollywood actor has broken all boundaries, outshining Bollywood biggies like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. Earning a staggering ₹ 125 crore for a single show, he's the highest-paid actor on OTT with a net worth of ₹ 427 crore (approximately $50 million USD), as per multiple reports. Ajay became the highest-paid OTT actor in 2021 when he signed for the Hindi adaptation of the hit British series, Luther, Rudra: Edge of Darkness. Starring as the cop with a dark history, he reportedly charged more than ₹ 100 crore for the seven-episode show. A court in Bengaluru, too, has indicated in a statement that includes local language phrases that the sentiments of the masses cannot be hurt so casually and has thought that an apology would be required. Without that apology, the film may find it difficult to be released in Karnataka. All South Indian languages came out of a common source that resembles them to different degrees. But if someone says that one of them came out of another, it is like equating a language as it is spoken today with that source. It has been found, for instance, that Proto-Dravidian, a reconstructed source for South Indian languages, has commonalities with a language spoken near the Zagros mountains in Iran—since the Harappans are supposed to have been a mixture of early Indians and migrants from that region. In any case, all these are academic exercises and cannot have much bearing on the controversy, because that stems from political loyalties and beliefs. The creation of linguistic states was a rational decision, but it had major repercussions that were not anticipated. It created language loyalties in pockets where Hindi was not widely spoken, like South India. The Devanagari script is associated with Sanskrit, which has Brahminical associations, and language in South India has also become connected to caste issues.
