The former PKR deputy president was responding to a former MIC leader, now in PKR, who slammed Rafizi for failing to 'jaga' or 'take care' of the grassroots.
Rafizi said that the MIC patronage culture should not be imported into PKR.
'What does he mean by take care? I don't give out RM5,000 or RM10,000 when visiting branches in exchange for support. I don't give out hampers,' said Rafizi, when launching his 'Hiruk' election campaign.
He added that some women PKR candidates had bought tudung costing hundreds of thousands of ringgit for distribution.
'What's going on?' asked Rafizi.

Aid for Indian community channelled through many agencies, not just Mitra
KUALA LUMPUR - The allocations and assistance for the Indian community are channelled comprehensively through various ministries and not solely concentrated under the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA), said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He said there are other programmes with substantial allocations under various ministries that benefit the community in areas such as education, housing and business, in addition to the specific annual allocation of RM100 million for MITRA. For example, the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) cash aid for the Indian community amounted to half a billion ringgit in 2022, while for 2025 it has reached RM1 billion, he said. Additionally, the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme worth RM1.2 billion has been provided for the community. "In 2024, out of the RM100 million allocation for MITRA, RM98.9 million has been spent, benefiting 122,082 members of the Indian community. "Other forms of assistance include RM93 million in early education subsidies, RM17.63 million in higher education aid for the Indian B40 community, and RM2.99 million in laptop assistance for SJKT (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil), involving 6,000 laptops distributed in stages. "Therefore, claims that the government appears to neglect (the Indian community) or that allocations for MITRA are not approved promptly are not true," he said during the Minister's Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat today. The Prime Minister was responding to a question from S. Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) regarding the MADANI Government's focus through MITRA or other agencies in efforts to comprehensively develop the socio-economic status of the Indian community. Elaborating, Anwar said that for 2025, the government is taking a different approach in channelling assistance to the community, with better coordination involving each ministry and MITRA. For example, in the case of housing projects for the Indian community under the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), he said additional funds from MITRA would be coordinated to cover shortfalls. "So, if KPKT spends RM20 million, an additional RM5 million (from MITRA funds) will be coordinated. ICT (information and communication technology) laboratory equipment assistance in 50 SJKT receives RM5 million from the Ministry of Education and partly from MITRA. "A total of 200 Hindu places of worship or Hindu temples registered as Local Community Centres nationwide have been allocated RM20 million, in addition to a one-off RM10 million allocation from the Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) for minor repairs and maintenance of residences of Indian estate workers," he said. On the issue of hardcore poverty among the Indian community, Anwar stressed that efforts to centralise programmes aimed at eradicating hardcore poverty must be strengthened and carried out comprehensively, including involving the community. He said the MADANI Economic framework focuses on comprehensively eradicating hardcore poverty in every state and district without racial distinction. "The number of poor among the Malays is very high because the majority of the country's population is Malays; therefore, (aid) programmes are naturally much higher for the Malay community. "As for the Indian community, although the population is smaller and the number of poor is smaller compared with the Malays, there are groups within the Indian community who are relatively poorer and among the poorest, and that is what we need to address. That is why the centralisation of programmes to eradicate hardcore poverty needs to be strengthened - our policy is clear,' he said. Anwar was responding to a supplementary question from V. STAR reviews AI investment for efficient government services
PUTRAJAYA: The Special Task Force on Agency Reform (STAR) is reviewing AI investments to ensure they improve government efficiency and service delivery. STAR stated that an analysis of the 'AI Productivity Paradox' showed AI saves time but has not yet boosted national productivity. The 7th STAR meeting for 2025, chaired by Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, assessed progress on reform projects and administrative efficiency. Key discussions included government quarters management, border security, immigration system disruptions, and public administration tech challenges. The meeting highlighted the need to strengthen public service integrity, particularly at entry points, to support transparent governance. STAR will further study service delivery effectiveness and refine operational procedures to meet global standards. Three ministries received Bureaucratic Reform (RKB) awards for efficiency improvements. The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development digitised social work courses, saving RM150,000 annually in compliance costs. The Ministry of Education cut Matriculation College admission appeals from 12 to five working days, saving RM7.5 million yearly. The Ministry of Plantations and Commodities streamlined rubber board licensing, reducing compliance costs by 68% and saving RM11.4 million annually. STAR collaborates with the Performance Surge Coordination Unit, MADANI Monitoring Unit, and Malaysian Productivity Corporation to enhance policy implementation. PM: Defence procurement, spending up due to political uncertainties
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has increased defence procurement and development spending by RM2 billion from 2020 to 2024 in light of geopolitical uncertainties, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat, he said, spending had increased from RM3 billion in 2020 to RM5 billion in 2024. "Recently, there has been an increase in military preparedness by the Philippines and the United States in the southern Philippines, near Sabah. "I contacted President Marcos, and he said this was in response to China's offensive. "Naturally, this is worrying and compels us to strengthen our readiness in Banggi Island and Sabah to safeguard our resilience," he said during the Prime Minister's Question Time. He was responding to Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas), who asked about the level of national defence preparedness in facing global and regional geopolitical uncertainties. Anwar said that as the Defence Ministry has faced decades of controversies and scandals involving helicopters, littoral combat ships, and aircraft procurements, the government has adopted a government-to-government (G2G) negotiation approach. Apart from foreign deals, he said, the local defence industry was also very important. "We have spent tens of billions of ringgit, but local capacity remains very limited. That is why, for example, we have provided additional allocations for preparations, including in Lumut, as well as other local activities and the procurement of fast interceptor craft for the Royal Malaysian Navy, which involve significant local contributions. "Through G2G negotiations with Turkiye, costs were reduced immediately because we eliminated the excessively high agent commissions. The procurement process also became more efficient," he said. He said the unmanned aerial system drones from Turkiye will arrive this December, while two sets of surface-to-surface missile launchers — the Enver Strike Missile system from Norway — will arrive this month. For the LCS project for the Royal Malaysian Navy, 48 units of surface-to-surface missiles were already 86 per cent complete and scheduled for delivery in 2025. "I emphasise 2025 because this project had dragged on for years with endless studies, but now the management is more organised. "From South Korea, we have requested enhanced government-level cooperation. As such, the delivery of the Fighter Lead-In Trainer/Light Combat Aircraft (FLIT/LCA) for the Royal Malaysian Air Force will begin in October 2026 for the first unit, with the final unit by the end of August 2027," he said. On negotiations with Italy, he said, discussions were held by the Italian prime minister herself to expedite the process through G2G. He added that the maritime patrol aircraft for the RMAF from Italy was expected to complete its project management review in June 2025, with delivery scheduled for June 2026.
