KW&SC board approves ‘Master Plan 2050'
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, Dr Sarosh Lodhi, Abdul Kabir Qazi, Tanzil Pirzada, Zafar Sobani, CEO KW&SC Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, COO Engineer Asadullah Khan, and other board members.
During the session, the minutes of the previous (ninth) board meeting were approved, while several significant agenda items were passed in the tenth meeting.
Water board asked to fast-track execution of K-IV project
A detailed discussion was held on the Master Plan 2050, which aims to improve water supply and drainage systems in Karachi over the long term.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab directed that the implementation of Master Plan 2050 be expedited to ensure better water and sewerage services for the city's residents. The Board also considered legal amendments to combat water theft more effectively. A formal request will be submitted to the Sindh Government to provide the Water Corporation with the authority to confiscate properties of individuals involved in water theft.
Additionally, key appointments were approved to strengthen the organizational structure. Muhammad Ammar Khan was appointed as Chief Financial Officer, Jamshed Raza as Chief Human Resource Officer, Naveed Afzal as Chief Strategy Officer, and Saadat Anwar as Chief Information Technology Officer.

Sindh unveils SEPRA plan for cheaper power

Power will be generated in Sindh, transmitted through STDC, and priced by the Sindh government instead of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA). SEPRA's staff has been hired, and its notification will be issued this month. The first supply will target the K-IV project grid, with a focus on economic zones. He said hybrid parks will help reduce tariffs and that Sindh is adopting global models to resolve energy issues. High capacity charges of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) can be tackled by expanding industries. Several IPP deals have been reviewed, bringing relief to consumers. Shah also noted Sindh has no representation on KE's board and has asked the federal government to allow two provincial representatives. The province has signed an agreement with KE for solar power supply and urged the utility to avoid expensive fuel-based electricity when solar is available. The conference, organised by Renewables First and the Pakistan Business Forum (PBF), aimed to shift from the monopolistic single-buyer model to a competitive market. Speakers stressed the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contracts Market (CTBCM), approved by the ECC and NEPRA decades ago but not operational, is key to affordable electricity.

Through the 'Khelta' Punjab programme, the Punjab government is providing the youth of every division a platform to prosper in the fields of sports, positive activities along with maintaining their health. The e-bike scheme is providing a dignified transportation facility and independence to thousands of students of Punjab.' The CM outlined, 'Advanced market-based IT training is preparing the youth not merely for acquiring jobs but to create jobs as well. Young medical graduates in Maryam Nawaz clinics are portraying a practical example of providing excellent medical service to the patients.' She noted, 'Assan Karobar Card and Assan Karobar Finance Scheme are providing the youth financial independence and strength. The ongoing internship programmes in various departments are opening avenues of practical experience and comprehension for the talented youth. LAHORE: Over 0.5 million young individuals have so far registered at Prime Minister's Digital Youth Hub within short span of two months. This registration highlights government's commitment to empowering youth through digital skills and opportunities, sources said. More than 1000 domestic and foreign companies have also signed up on digital youth hub, the sources added. The Prime Minister's Youth Programme (PMYP) is Pakistan's flagship initiative dedicated to empowering its youth, recognizing them as the country's greatest asset. With over two-thirds of Pakistan's population under the age of 30, the nation is experiencing a youth bulge—a defining demographic opportunity that, if harnessed effectively, can drive economic growth, innovation, and social progress. The PMYP operates under the 4Es framework — Education, Employment, Engagement, and Environment ensuring a holistic approach to youth development. Through dynamic and integrated initiatives, PMYP equips young Pakistanis with education, skills, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities, while fostering engagement in sports, volunteerism, policy-making, and environmental action to create a sustainable future.
