The best Met Gala after party transformations
More joyful was Jenner's after party look, raided from the archives of Thierry Mugler. The black mini-dress came from Mugler's autumn 1999 La Vie En Rose collection, with a tilted hat adding extra drama.
Jenner has become a fan of Mugler's work for unwinding, wearing a black lace dress from the designer's 1992 collection to the Vanity Fair Oscars after party.
Sabrina Carpenter
Singer Carpenter finally found some pants at A$AP Rocky's after party after joining Lisa in the Met Gala's pantless trend earlier in the evening.
Carpenter changed out of a burgundy tuxedo, bodysuit and platform heels from the Met Gala's sponsor Louis Vuitton, persisting with the showgirl aesthetic she refined in her appropriately named Short n' Sweet tour.
For the after party, Carpenter's statement yellow coat was adorned with oversized LV logos, and worn over a white shirt, black tie and sensible trousers.
The after party ensemble seemed a more fitting tribute to the Met Gala exhibition theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
Heidi Klum
At first glance, German supermodel Klum's Met Gala look appeared to be an example of looking pretty first and following the theme second. On closer inspection the strapless dress from Vetements creative director Guram Gvasalia, was made from suit fabric.
Klum also managed to tie in a timely reference with the fabric, from 1978, having been sourced from a supplier to the Vatican.
There were no religious associations with Klum's after party look, one of the few designed for the dance floor rather than the red carpet. Klum chose leather pants with a matching jacket from Vetements, and a white singlet perfect for raising your arms in the air when the beat drops.
Jenna Ortega
Actor Jenna Ortega can be excused for changing into a more comfortable Balmain bodysuit for the Met Gala after parties wearing a dress made from metal rulers to the official event.
Designer Olivier Rousteing was inspired by the art of tailoring tape and rulers for the bustier gown.

The top 5 looks from the Tony Awards: Snook and Clooney win
Sarah Snook clutching her first Tony Award is not the only reason that the stars are now shining brighter on Broadway. The red carpet for US theatre's premier event ditched its dowdy reputation, with divas, directors and ingenues embracing the elevated style of the Emmys and Oscars, without ditching humour, diversity and drama, darling! The presence of US Vogue editor Anna Wintour was a hint of the Met Gala-worthy looks to come from Hollywood actors returning to the stage and Broadway diehards. Cynthia Erivo in Schiaparelli Before returning to Wicked promotional duties later this year for the sequel Wicked: For Good, and the inevitable green-themed dresses, Erivo borrowed from co-star Ariana Grande's preferred palette as Glinda in a velvet blush skirt with an embellished bodice from Schiaparelli's spring haute couture collection. Erivo proceeded to change throughout her hosting duties for the ceremony, but the dramatic pearl-trimmed neckline from Schiaparelli creative director Daniel Roseberry stole the show before the curtain went up. Sarah Snook in Richard Quinn Having embraced the masculine elements of her award-winning performance in The Picture of Dorian Gray at last month's Met Gala, Snook pushed her feminine side to the fore at the Tony Awards. In British designer Richard Quinn's sequinned stretch gown, Snook was sleeker than the statuette she would eventually clutch. Broad shoulders and a high neckline elevated her leading lady status.

The $4 product (and an $1100 option) that will take your ponytail to new heights
This story is part of the June 8 edition of Sunday Life. See all 14 stories. When I mentioned this week's topic to my colleagues, one question flew around the office: what is the 'it' ponytail? Ponytails are more than just a way to pull your hair back from your face. They can be sleek and poker straight, high-rise and bouncy, volume-packed and worn to the side, and low-slung. And, oh, the ribbons! Red-carpet highlights include Nicole Kidman at January's Golden Globes with her high, swinging switch. Meanwhile, on TikTok, the viral 'flip and claw clip' incarnation creates volume with minimal hassle: just twist and clamp. To master the high pony, hair stylist Philip Barwick has this advice. 'It's best to begin by evenly distributing a heat protector and styling mousse through the hair, paying particular attention to the roots out to the mid-lengths and then blow dry,' he says. 'This sets the hair up for easy ponytail styling because a high ponytail looks best when your hair is smooth and frizz-free.' Gather all your hair high at the crown and hold it in place; it needs to be tight, but not so tight that it gives you a headache. Once you've got the ponytail in place, secure it with a strong hair elastic, like Lululemon Uplifting Scrunchies 3 Pack ($29). For a final, smoothing touch, use Kerasilk Flyaway Wand ($29) to tame any strays. To polish this look, hide the hair tie by taking a small section of hair from the ponytail and wrapping it around the base, securing it underneath with a bobby pin. To make sure everything is secure, give your ponytail a light mist of hairspray. For reference, check out Anne Hathaway at the recent Met Gala. For a twist on this version, try wearing it low and to one side. The slicked-back ponytail is also on-trend. Begin with clean, damp hair; if your hair is dry, lightly mist with water to create a smooth base. Use a smoothing cream like MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream ($25) to tame flyaways and boost shine. Work it evenly through your hair from the roots to the ends. With a paddle brush, smooth your hair back. Grab the hair at the nape of your neck and secure tightly with a hair elastic. Next, take a fine-tooth comb and go over the ponytail and your hairline to make it super smooth. Mist with a strong-hold hairspray, like Tresemme Extra Hold Hairspray ($4) to keep hair anchored in place. To take these styles to the next level, we love the addition of a clip-in bow. Go from the high end, with a Prada Velvet Bow Hair Clip ($1110), to low with Morgan & Taylor's Piera Bow ($40).
