Rohas Tecnic appoints new chairman following boardroom changes

KUALA LUMPUR: Rohas Tecnic Bhd has appointed Sia Bun Chun as its new chairman following the retirement of Tan Sri Nik Awang @ Wan Azmi bin Wan Hamzah, who stepped down after serving the board in a non-independent, non-executive capacity.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing today, the company announced that Sia, 78, formerly the deputy chairman, has been redesignated as chairman effective today.
A Singaporean national, Sia holds a direct stake of 6.42 per cent and an indirect stake of 8.42 per cent in Rohas Tecnic.
The leadership transition also saw the resignation of Wan Afzal-Aris Wan Azmi, who served as alternate director to Nik Awang.
Wan Afzal-Aris, 40, vacated his position following the principal director's retirement. There were no disagreements with the board nor issues requiring shareholder attention, the company said.
Rohas Tecnic is involved in regional utility infrastructure markets primarily in the power and energy, telecommunication, and water and sewage.

EquitiesTracker's auditors flag going concern risk amid deepening losses

EquitiesTracker Holdings Bhd (ETH) has received a statement of material uncertainty related to going concern from its external auditors, ChengCo PLT, for its financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY24), raising questions over the company's ability to remain financially viable. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the investment research and analytics firm reported a significantly widened net loss of RM12.81 million in FY2024, compared to RM3.25 million in the previous year. As of end-2024, the company also reported net current liabilities of RM1.63 million, reversing from net current assets of RM11.27 million a year earlier. The auditors noted that these financial conditions 'indicate that a material uncertainty exists that may cast significant doubt on the Company's ability to continue as a going concern.' However, the audit opinion was not modified. ETH clarified that the material uncertainty applies solely to the company level and does not affect the financial standing of the group. In an effort to address liquidity concerns, ETH had earlier embarked on a private placement exercise approved by Bursa Securities in January 2025. The company successfully raised RM2.77 million and RM3.5 million in two tranches in February and June respectively, issuing a total of 28.48 million shares at RM0.22 apiece. 'With the completion of the private placement, the company has addressed the issue of net current liabilities,' the filing said. ETH is listed on Bursa Malaysia's LEAP Market. –TMR

Bursa Malaysia ends marginally higher amid cautious regional sentiment

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia closed slightly higher today, with the key index climbing 0.18 per cent, supported by buying in utilities and telecommunications heavyweights, despite softer regional sentiment due to profit-taking and caution surrounding the United States-China trade deal. At 5pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 2.78 points to 1,526.62 from Wednesday's close of 1,523.84. The benchmark opened 3.87 points higher at 1,527.71 this morning, and subsequently moved between 1,523.22 to a high of 1,528.72 throughout the session. On the broader market, losers thumped gainers 500 to 379, while 530 counters were unchanged, 986 untraded and 17 suspended. Turnover fell to 2.73 billion units worth RM2.07 billion compared with yesterday's 3.27 billion units worth RM2.59 billion. Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice-president Thong Pak Leng said the FBM KLCI edged higher with buying in selective heavyweights such as utilities and telco stocks, while key regional indices finished mostly lower due to profit-taking following gains over the last few days. "In addition, market sentiment was dampened by US President Donald Trump's threat to impose new trade tariffs on major economies, while investors remained cautious, awaiting further details on the US-China trade deal," he told Bernama. Elaborating on the local market performance, Thong noted that the benchmark index remains in consolidation mode despite closing higher over the past two sessions, as it still needs to break above the 1,530 resistance level and sustain that level for a longer period. "As such we anticipate the FBM KLCI to trend within the 1,520-1,530 range towards the weekend," he added.
