BCCI's apex council will set norms for victory celebrations.
New Delhi: Following a deadly stampede at Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium during an IPL match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will discuss establishing standardized guidelines for victory celebrations at its upcoming Apex Council meeting. This will be a key agenda item at the 28th meeting, scheduled for Saturday.
A stampede at a stadium last Wednesday resulted in 11 deaths and 56 injuries. The incident occurred when approximately 250,000 fans gathered to see popular performers.
The BCCI admitted room for improvement in managing the celebrations and will formally discuss the issue at an upcoming meeting.
'The need of formulation of norms for IPL victory celebration will be discussed during the meeting,' a BCCI source said.
The cricket board will discuss venue selections for the India-New Zealand series and review its age verification program, designed to prevent underage participation in youth cricket.
Karimnagar District Cricket Association president V. Agam Rao's April 2025 complaint alleging financial mismanagement in Telangana's cricket infrastructure development is expected to be addressed.
Following a complaint, the BCCI Ombudsman, Justice Arun Mishra, instructed the Apex Council to address the issue. This matter will be reviewed at their Saturday meeting.
The meeting agenda also includes reviewing the BCCI's player and team official code of conduct, the tournament allowance policy for BCCI staff, the upcoming 2025-26 domestic season, and umpire and match referee training programs.

With Asia Cup 2025 appearing highly unlikely due to India-Pakistan tensions, PCB comes up with alternate plan

This year's Asia Cup was scheduled to be hosted by India in the month of September, but currently appears highly unlikely in the aftermath of the recent military standoff with Pakistan that followed by the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. read more The Indian and Pakistani teams led by Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam respectively had faced each other twice in the previous edition of the Men's Asia Cup. AP This year's Asia Cup has been in doubt ever since the terror attack in Pahalgam in April that led to a military showdown between nuclear-armed nations India and Pakistan, and the prospect of the tournament getting called off appears highly likely. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan have not played bilateral cricket for over a decade now and the recent incidents have made the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) consider the option of a total boycott of Pakistan, at least in the near future. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD And with the Asia Cup – which was to be hosted by India in September – looking increasingly uncertain, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering playing a triangular series with Afghanistan and host nation United Arab Emirates as an alternative. 'With the Asia Cup now unlikely to be held in India as originally planned in September due to the simmering relations between Pakistan and India, the PCB is working on another tri-series proposal,' a well-informed source in the PCB told news agency Press Trust of India. Also Read | How Pakistan cricket, Asia Cup will be impacted if BCCI withdraws The PCB added that it will stick to the proposed move even if the continental event is moved to the UAE from India, and not called off entirely. 'The idea is that if the Asia Cup is moved to the UAE then Pakistan will play a tri-series with Afghanistan and the UAE in Dubai in August replacing the Afghanistan tour to Pakistan. 'If the Asia Cup is cancelled or postponed the PCB wants the Afghanistan and UAE teams to play the tri-series in Pakistan in August,' the source added. India yet to confirm participation in Asia Cup BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had last month refuted rumours of India pulling out of the Asia Cup. Saikia had said that the board's focus – at the time – was on conducting the remaining matches of the Indian Premier League following a week-long suspension due to the Indo-Pak conflict, and the upcoming five-match Test series in England, while adding that the Asia Cup would be discussed in due time. 'The Indian cricket board is yet to confirm its willingness to host the Asia Cup at home. So, it remains to be seen when the ACC council meets and makes a call on the future of the Asia Cup which is to be held in the T20 format,' the source added. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The tournament, would have been the third to take place in the T20 format after 2016 and 2022, which were won by India and Sri Lanka respectively. It would have also given all the participating teams valuable practice ahead of the T20 World Cup, which will be jointly-hosted by India and Sri Lanka early next year.

WTC Final: 'Two Balls Can Wrap It Up'; Lungi Ngidi on South Africa's fightback attempt vs Australia

Lungi Ngidi of South Africa (Photo by Paul Harding/) After day two of the World Test Championship Final at Lord's, South Africa's position remains challenging despite Australia finishing at 144/8, holding a 218-run lead. The Proteas were earlier bowled out for 138 in their first innings, but their bowlers, particularly Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada , fought back to keep them in contention. Ngidi, who claimed three crucial wickets on day two, expressed confidence in the team's ability to stay competitive despite the difficult situation. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. The coach asked us whatever we do, to do it with conviction, and if you go out, go out on your own terms. You can also be that guy to turn the game around for the team, that was the mindset," Ngidi stated after the day's play. The South African seamer acknowledged his initial struggles but explained how he overcame them with captain Bavuma's support. Pat Cummins on WTC Final: 'Cameron Green deserves a spot in the lineup' "It was tough in the first innings, there was no rhythm, it looked like I was fighting a lot while bowling. Couple of nerves coming back after tea, especially knowing who the guys were in the middle, but he (Bavuma) was asking me to do certain things, I just said let me get into my spell, let me get some rhythm and once I felt it was clicking I just kept running with it." Ngidi drew energy from the crowd's support during his extended bowling spell and remained optimistic about the team's chances. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? "It was pretty exciting, I could hear my name in one of the corners, that's what actually gives you energy when you are bowling such a long spell, the crowd gets behind and you keep going. We are in a good position now, two balls can wrap it up, and we are focusing on that. If we are chasing anything under 230.. It won't be easy with the bowling line-up they have, but we want to give ourselves the best chance." Kagiso Rabada continued his impressive performance, following his first-innings five-wicket haul for 51 runs with three more wickets on day two. This achievement elevated him to become South Africa's fifth-leading wicket-taker across all formats. The match remains poised with Australia holding the advantage, but South Africa's bowlers have kept their team's hopes alive with a strong showing on day two.
