CSK Star Joins Indian Team As Arshdeep Singh Suffers Injury: Sources

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee has called up Haryana and Chennai Super Kings pacer Anshul Kamboj as cover for injured Arshdeep Singh on the tour of England. The Indian team suffered a big setback ahead of the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England after pacer Arshdeep Singh sustained an injury. Arshdeep reportedly suffered a cut on his bowling hand during a nets session in Manchester, which required stitches. The pacer, hence, is unlikely to be available for the Manchester Test. The selection committee, as per NDTV sources, acted swiftly on the setback and added Kamboj to the squad as cover. With the team management still undecided on whether to play Jasprit Bumrah in the fourth match to be played at Old Trafford and some of the other bowlers failing to make an impact, the decision to add Kamboj to the roster was a crucial one. Kamboj impressed the selectors with his performances during the India A vs England A 2-match unofficial Test series. The CSK star isn't just a tricky bowler to face but can also prove to be handy with the bat. Considering head coach Gautam Gambhir's inclination towards multi-skill players, Kamboj's inclusion was a no-brainer. As per an agreement between the Indian team management and the national selection committee, Bumrah is scheduled to play only three of the five Test matches to manage his workload. He played the first Test and claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Bumrah missed the second Test, and India brought in Akash Deep in his place. The pacer from Gujarat came back in the third match and claimed a five-wicket haul in the second innings, but India suffered a narrow 22-run defeat. Arshdeep is yet to make his Test debut, though he has played eight ODIs and 63 T20Is so far. He has also played 21 First-Class matches. Though an official announcement is yet to be made, Team India will have one of Kamboj, Shardul Thakur and Prasid Krishan to choose from if Bumrah is rested for the Manchester Test.

Harbhajan Singh, Pathan Brothers Pull Out Of WCL Game Vs Pakistan: Reports

Harbhajan Singh has withdrawn from the World Championship of Legends game against Pakistan amid to public backlash. Harbhajan Singh, Ifran Pathan and Yusuf Pathan have reportedly withdrawn their names from the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) game against Pakistan, after facing severe public backlash. Multiple reports suggest that he has made the decision considering the sour political relations between the country after the Pahalgam attack. India and Pakistan don't play bilateral cricket against each other. There were calls to end all multi-national tournament meetings between the two, as well, after the Pahalgam attack and the ensuing cross-border escalation that saw several Indian lives lost. 'My heart goes out to family members of all those who lost their lives in the dastardly attack. This can't be forgiven," Harbhajan wrote at the time. The current head coach, Gautam Gambhir, was one of many who asked India to cut all ties, bilateral or not, with the neighbors. Whereas, the India Champions captain in WCL, Yuvraj Singh, Shikhar Dhawan and others engaged in social media wars with the likes of Shahid Afridi over their anti-India commentary. The same cricketers became the centre of public anger after it was revealed that Afridi was part of the Pakistani team. Some reports suggest that other Indian cricketers might pull out from the tournament, too. What is WCL and who owns it? The league is co-owned by rapper and artist Harshit Tomar and Bollywood star Ajay Devgan. The league's website mentions Tomar as the CEO, while both have been seen together in promotional events. India's WCL Squad Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa (WK), Ambati Rayudu, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh (C), Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Stuart Binny, Vinay Kumar, Harbhajan Singh, Piyush Chawla, Siddarth Kaul, Abhimanyu Mithun and Varun Aaron Who are the other participants? The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) doesn't allow contracted or active Indian men's cricketers to participate in such private leagues (except state-association ones) in the country or outside. Hence, these 'Legends' leagues — there are several of them — contract retired cricketers from all around the globe. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. BCCI nets Rs 9,741 cr in FY24, IPL alone accounts for 59%

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earned INR 9,741.7 crore in revenue during the financial year 2023–24, as per the latest ICYMI report citing official data. The IPL alone contributed INR 5,761 crore, that's over 59 percent of the board's total earnings. A two-month tournament generating more than half the annual revenue of the world's richest cricket board speaks volumes of the event's commercial heft. From media rights and sponsorships to ticketing and merchandise, the IPL remains BCCI's crown jewel. According to the report, the BCCI received a hefty INR 1,042 crore from the International Cricket Council (ICC), accounting for 10.70 percent of its total revenue. While cricket was being played on the field, the BCCI was quietly making money off it. Interest from fixed deposits and investments contributed INR 987 crore to the board's income, a smart financial play that made up over 10 percent of total revenues. In a notable debut, the Women's Premier League (WPL) brought in INR 378 crore, signaling a strong start and a potentially transformative shift for women's cricket in India. Meanwhile, broadcasting rights for non-IPL international matches contributed INR 361 crore, reaffirming that traditional cricket still holds considerable value. Adding to this were INR 361 crore from ticket sales, hospitality, and commercial rights related to Men's internationals tours, and INR 400 crore from miscellaneous sources proving that even off-the-pitch cricket sells. The report concluded, with 59 percent of its revenue from IPL and growing streams like WPL and global rights, BCCI has built a billion-rupee engine powered by fan love, smart deals, and cricketing excellence.

Asia Cup 2025 In Trouble? BCCI Refuses To Attend ACC Meet In Dhaka; Here's Why

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to boycott any resolution passed during the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) if it takes place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as currently scheduled. Sources close to the matter confirmed that India has refused to attend the meeting due to ongoing issues in Bangladesh. The ACC's AGM is slated for July 24 in Dhaka, and the key item on the agenda is finalizing the details of the 2025 Asia Cup, a six-team tournament expected to be played in the T20 format. Despite India being the designated host of the tournament, the ACC has yet to release an official schedule or venue. A source revealed that BCCI has formally requested ACC President and current Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, to shift the meeting venue away from Dhaka. However, no response has been received, prompting BCCI's strong stance. The Asia Cup can only go forward if the meeting location is shifted from Dhaka. Mohsin Naqvi is applying undue pressure on India regarding this issue. If the venue remains unchanged, the BCCI will boycott any resolution passed during the meeting,' said the source. Tensions between India and Pakistan continue to impact cricket scheduling. In 2023, India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup, leading to Sri Lanka hosting India's matches at a neutral venue. Similarly, during the 2025 Champions Trophy held in Pakistan, India opted to play its matches in Dubai instead. Adding to the complications, India and Bangladesh had mutually agreed to postpone India's scheduled tour of Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026 due to the prevailing political and security climate. Earlier in 2025, rumors circulated on social media that India might pull out of both the Men's Asia Cup and the Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup due to rising cross-border tensions. However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed such reports, calling them "speculative and imaginary," and clarified that no formal communication had been made to the ACC regarding India's withdrawal from any events. India remains the defending champion of the Asia Cup, and the tournament's fate now hinges on the resolution of these off-field diplomatic challenges. Whether the ACC will reconsider the venue or stick to its original plan remains to be seen.
