Thunder's preferred matchup: Clippers or Nuggets?
For The Hoops crew discuss whether the Thunder would prefer to face the Clippers or Nuggets in the second round of the NBA playoffs
LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Clippers managed to force a Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets with a 111-105 victory in Game 6 on Thursday.
The Clippers' defense managed to keep Nuggets star Nikola Jokić from a triple-double (25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds). Jokic has averaged a triple-double in the series with 25.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 10.5 assists per game.
James Harden, Kawhi Leonard, and Norman Powell led the Clippers' offense, combining for 79 points.
Nicolas Batum was held in high regard by his coaches and teammates for his efforts on both ends of the floor in Game 6 and could be added to the starting lineup for Game 7. He finished with six points, six assists, five rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals on Thursday.
It will be up to coach Tyronn Lue to consider whether he will check in with his players again, through individual conversations, like he did prior to Game 6.
Lue's squad has seen different results throughout the series while playing in Denver.
Clippers-Nuggets Game 6 takeaways: L.A. sends series back to Denver for Game 7
The Clippers split the first two games of the series on the road with the Nuggets. The two games were decided by a combined total of five points. Denver then blew out L.A. 131-115 in Game 5.
Russell Westbrook played a big role in the final minutes of Game 1 as the Nuggets rallied to win in overtime. Westbrook scored 15 points in the game, including three on an uncontested shot in the corner from long range that helped give Denver a lead late in regulation. He also knocked an inbound pass away and off of Harden with 9.6 seconds left to help seal the win in overtime.
Leonard helped the Clippers in Game 2 with a 39-point performance while shooting 15-of-19 from the field; his teammates combined for 26-of-66 shooting from the field.
'We can have the confidence to know that we have won there, but it's going to be a different game,' Leonard said. 'We have to come out aggressive in the first quarter and make sure they don't get a big lead on us.'
The Clippers are looking to avoid having their season end with a first-round exit for a third consecutive year.
In each of the previous two seasons, Leonard was a non-factor for the Clippers. He played in just two games in each of those first-round series because of injuries.
He started off the 2024-25 season listed as day-to-day after undergoing a knee procedure during the offseason to address swelling. Leonard had expressed during media day in September that he expected to play the season opener, but he missed the first 34 games of the season. The Clippers went 19-15 without him.
He also mentioned during the Clippers' media day that he was hoping to remain healthy enough to have a run in the playoffs. He's been able to follow through with that through the first six games.
The team has not reported a single player on the injury report this postseason.
The Nuggets took a lead in the series while dealing with their share of injuries. Westbrook had left foot inflammation and was considered questionable after rolling his ankle before Game 3. He missed Game 4 before rejoining the series.
Michael Porter Jr. has continued to play despite a bad left shoulder. He's averaged 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds in 32.8 minutes per game in the series.
When is Game 7 between Clippers and Nuggets?
The Clippers will travel to play the Nuggets in Game 7 at Ball Arena in Denver. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on May 3 (TNT).

Sixers forward Paul George gives love to retiring star guard John Wall

The NBA world saw 5-time All-Star John Wall announce his retirement. The former star of the Washington Wizards played 11 years in the league--missing a season due to injury and another because he was too productive for the Houston Rockets in 2022--and averaged 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds in his career. Wall finished seventh in MVP voting in 2017 with the Wizards and played with Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George when the two of them were with the Los Angeles Clippers. When Wall was right, he was one of the best players in the league and was a player that elevated his teammates. George gave love to Wall via his podcast on Twitter as he acknowledged his former NBA draft and teammate with the Clippers. George will be looking to help the Sixers bounce back in the 2025-26 season. He played only 41 games in his first season in Philadelphia and will need to be healthy to help the Sixers get over the hump in the Eastern Conference. Denver Nuggets Ex-Mascot Sues Team Owner for Wrongful Termination

Denver Nuggets have had one of the NBA's most popular team mascots for many years, but now one of the men who formerly donned the Rocky mask is suing the team's owner. According to the Colorado Sun, Drake Solomon, 31, has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, alleging he was fired after taking time off to recover from hip surgery. Solomon said the move was a violation of Colorado's anti-discrimination act and disability protection laws. "It was not easy to go ahead with this because I love the Nuggets," Solomon told the outlet. "They've been my whole life and my family. For things to end the way they did it was pretty heartbreaking." Solomon began working for the Nuggets in 2012 as a trampoline stunt performer; however, his ties to the team go back several decades, as his dad, Kenn Solomon, worked as the Nuggets' beloved mascot Rocky the Mountain Lion for roughly 30 years. Solomon was hired as his dad's replacement in 2021. COMPLEX SHOP: Shop the brands you love, anytime and anywhere. Uncover what's next. Buy. Collect. Obsess. During the 2022-2023 NBA season, Solomon was diagnosed with the bone tissue condition vascular necrosis and was forced to undergo hip surgery. He allegedly returned to work just 10 days after the procedure, but the hip pain continued into the following season. Solomon said he eventually decided to get a full hip replacement and returned to a "hostile work environment" after a relatively fast recovery. Solomon claimed that supervisors began holding tryouts for a new mascot, citing his "record of impairment and their lack of confidence in his health." The team owner fired Solomon shortly after the auditions were held, saying he failed to secure the highest score during tryouts. He was allegedly asked to accept $20,000 as severance and a nondisclosure, non-disparagement, confidentiality agreement. He declined both. The plaintiff's attorneys said other former employees were presented with similar severance agreements, which violated state laws. Solomon is seeking unspecified damages from KSE, which also owns the Los Angeles Rams, the Colorado Avalanche, and other professional sports teams. "We loved Rocky our entire lives. We always looked at the Nuggets as a second family and Rocky as a second dad," Solomon told The Sun. "For it to end so cold … it's kind of like losing a family member. My dad was pretty devastated when he heard. He was the one that suggested I look into seeing what I can do to make some wrongs right." NBA views Thunder-Nuggets as rivals with 4 2025-26 regular season games on national TV

In arguably the best series in the 2025 NBA playoffs, the Oklahoma City Thunder passed their toughest test with a Game 7 win over the Denver Nuggets. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander bested Nikola Jokic in the battle of MVP candidates. The Round 2 series' consequences were heavier than most. The Thunder and Nuggets provided some of the best playoff basketball. A three-time MVP winner almost took down one of the greatest teams ever by himself. Instead, Gilgeous-Alexander did enough to carry his squad to the finish line. As the NBA released its entire 2025-26 regular season schedule, the Thunder and Nuggets will have all four of their matchups on national television. The Thunder are tied with the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks for the most national TV games this upcoming season at 34. The Thunder will travel to face the Nuggets on Sunday, Feb. 1. The game will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock. Next up, OKC will host Denver on Friday, Feb. 27. That will be shown on ESPN. The two meet again at Paycom Center on Monday, Mar. 9. That will be on Peacock. And finally, the Thunder travel to Denver on Friday, Apr. 10. That game will be on Amazon Prime. Considering it's the penultimate game of the regular season, there's a decent chance the game won't mean much by the time it rolls around. We'll see. Examining the schedule, the NBA believes the Thunder and Nuggets are a rivalry worth investing in. All four matchups being on national television prove that. It's an easy bet to make if you're the schedule-makers. Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic have been the top two players over the last two seasons. That should only continue.
