Liam Rosenior says he would like to work with Djordje Petrovic next season

Yahoo25-04-2025

Speaking in an interview with local Strasbourg media Alsa' Sports, Racing Club de Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior says he would like to keep Chelsea loanee goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic at the club next season.
'The more I see him here, the more he smiles, and the happier he is. It's to his credit. He has a beautiful young family who has settled in the area, and he's going to have a remarkable career,' said Rosenior on the 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper.
'I love working with him and hopefully somehow we can still collaborate in the future. Whether it's here or elsewhere in five years, I'd like it to be next season.'
Petrovic has excelled since joining the Alsatians on loan from fellow BlueCo-owned club Chelsea last summer. It had been thought that the Serbian would return to his parent club at the end of the season, however, that may not necessarily happen.
BBC Sport reported last month that Petrovic was set to return to Chelsea this summer. Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, he was expected to compete for the No.1 jersey along with Robert Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen. Despite the goalkeeper area being a problem for Chelsea this season, the Premier League side are not expected to recruit another shot-stopper this summer.
However, Petrovic may not be the solution after all. The Serbain says that he is more than open to staying in Alsace next season. 'I am focused on finishing the season in the best way. We'll see after what could happen this summer. It could be a very good option to stay here if Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Champions League,' he said in a press conference in March.

Juventus Told to Pursue Joshua Zirkzee as Replacement for Man Utd, PSG Target

AC Milan are emerging as a serious contender in the search for a new striker this summer, joining Manchester United and PSG in the race. PSG are reportedly open to parting ways with Randal Kolo Muani, and there's even talk that Gonçalo Ramos could be on the move as well. One forward high on PSG's list is Juventus' Dušan Vlahović. According to CaughtOffside, the club began monitoring the Serbian international earlier this year, and with his transfer fee now more reasonable, a summer deal is becoming more likely. Advertisement Arsenal and Manchester United are also keeping an eye on Vlahović, which could spark a bidding war. With just one year left on his contract, Juventus may be willing to negotiate a lower fee rather than risk losing him for free in 2026. Juventus urged to secure this player to replace Manchester United, PSG targetFormer England manager Fabio Capello has encouraged Juventus to sign Joshua Zirkzee as a replacement for Vlahović, urging the club to move for the struggling Manchester United forward. 'Now, Dusan—what's next? I mention departures because it seems Vlahović and Juventus are heading for a split,' Capello said (h/t The Mirror). Advertisement 'In that case, Juve would need a new striker, especially with Kolo Muani's future uncertain (he's still owned by PSG). Who would I pick as the new number nine for the Bianconeri? I'd go straight for Joshua Zirkzee, who showed real class in Serie A. 'Though he's struggled at Manchester United, now might be the right time to bring the Dutchman back to Italy. Zirkzee would also cost less than the frequently linked Viktor Gyökeres. 'The Swede was a goal machine at Sporting, but at 27, he's never faced a top-tier league like ours. In short, I believe the safer bet is the former Bologna man.' GIVE ME SPORT reported this week that Manchester United could be offered the chance to sign Vlahović, who is keen on a move to England for the first time in his career. The striker has reportedly accepted that he is not part of Juventus' long-term plans and recognizes the need for a fresh start to secure consistent playing time. The report also claims that Manchester United are firmly on Vlahović's radar. After tallying 20 goal contributions across all competitions during the 2024-25 season, he is said to be confident in his ability to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

Sovereignty wins the 2025 Belmont Stakes

Jockey Junior Alvarado reacts atop Sovereignty as he crosses the finish line to win the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes. - Jessica Hill/AP Sovereignty, the 2025 Kentucky Derby winner, won the 157th running of the Belmont Stakes in Saratoga Springs, New York, on Saturday. The Godolphin-owned 3-year-old – who came into the race as the 5-2 favorite – narrowly beat the other favorite and Preakness Stakes winner, Journalism, by a margin of three lengths. Advertisement The win means Sovereignty has won two legs of horse racing's Triple Crown. The horse's team made the call after the Derby to not enter Sovereignty into the Preakness last month and instead focus on the Belmont. Baeza took third place – the same 1-2-3 as the Kentucky Derby last month. Alvarado celebrates with Sovereignty trainer Bill Mott after the Belmont Stakes. - Jessica Hill/AP Sovereignty jockey Junior Alvarado called his first wins at two of the most prized races 'surreal.' 'There was a point in my career, maybe five or six years ago, I could see everything fading away to be honest. And here I am,' Alvarado told the Fox broadcast. '… My family always my rock, big supporters. Helped me through tough moments in my life.' Advertisement A now two-time Belmont Stakes winner and Sovereignty's trainer, Bill Mott, said the decision to stay out of the Preakness 'turned out good.' 'If we wouldn't have won today, we would have taken a lot of criticism,' Mott said. 'It turned out good. Sometimes you make the right decision and a lot of times you make the wrong ones. But today, it really worked out well.' The Triple Crown hasn't been won since 2018, when Bob Baffert's Justify won the 105th Belmont Stakes to achieve the vaunted feat. It was the second consecutive year Saratoga Race Course hosted the Belmont Stakes due to renovations being done to Belmont Park. The race is expected back in Elmont, New York in 2027. How Chelsea could line-up next season

Chelsea have secured a return to Champions League football after finishing the 2024/25 campaign in fourth, and the club have already identified key areas in which they need to improve. No team in the top five scored less than Chelsea's 64 goals with attack a position in which they need to bolster. They've already confirmed the arrival of Liam Delap from relegated Ipswich Town for a £30m fee, but club officials are working on further deals. As reported via our colleagues at Get German Football News, talks between Chelsea and Eintracht Frankfurt for the transfer of French attacker Hugo Ekitike have taken place. The Frenchman has been a revelation in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 goals and providing eight assists in 33 league games last season as Frankfurt – who want a package of around €100m for the striker – secured Champions League football. Advertisement But it's another Bundesliga talent in which Chelsea have their eye on. Enzo Maresca's side have submitted a €35m offer to Borussia Dortmund for English winger Jamie Gittens, but the Bundesliga side are holding out for a fee closer to €50m. The Athletic report that Chelsea have already agreed terms with Gittens, who – despite being raw – would improve the team's wide areas with Jadon Sancho returning to Manchester United. Defensively, Chelsea face competition from fellow Champions League returnees Newcastle United in their pursuit to sign former academy product Marc Guehi. The England international played 44 games across all competitions for Crystal Palace last season, including their FA Cup final win over Manchester City. Crystal Palace are already eyeing a replacement in the event that Guehi does leave, but the Englishman would certainly strengthen Chelea's defence alongside compatriot Levi Colwill. And despite spending €83.5m on four goalkeepers: Filip Jørgensen, Mike Penders, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic, Chelsea are set to add another goalkeeper to their ranks with Kepa Arrizabalaga nearing a move to Arsenal. Milan and Chelsea have agreed on an €18m deal that will see the Frenchman join Chelsea. The 29-year-old has declined of late but Milan have regressed themselves which is certainly a contributing factor. A new environment could do Maignan the world of good and he's become the undisputed number one at Stamford Bridge. Graphic via line-up builder Get Football | News Desk
