🚨 Chelsea announce second summer signing from Strasbourg

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of defender Mamadou Sarr from BlueCo-owned Strasbourg on a long-term contract. The 19-year-old made 28 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit across all competitions in the 2024/25 campaign and has signed a contract with Chelsea until 2033. Liam Rosenior says he would like to work with Djordje Petrovic next season

Speaking in an interview with local Strasbourg media Alsa' Sports, Racing Club de Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior says he would like to keep Chelsea loanee goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic at the club next season. 'The more I see him here, the more he smiles, and the happier he is. It's to his credit. He has a beautiful young family who has settled in the area, and he's going to have a remarkable career,' said Rosenior on the 25-year-old Serbian goalkeeper. 'I love working with him and hopefully somehow we can still collaborate in the future. Whether it's here or elsewhere in five years, I'd like it to be next season.' Petrovic has excelled since joining the Alsatians on loan from fellow BlueCo-owned club Chelsea last summer. It had been thought that the Serbian would return to his parent club at the end of the season, however, that may not necessarily happen. BBC Sport reported last month that Petrovic was set to return to Chelsea this summer. Upon his return to Stamford Bridge, he was expected to compete for the No.1 jersey along with Robert Sanchez and Fili Jorgensen. Despite the goalkeeper area being a problem for Chelsea this season, the Premier League side are not expected to recruit another shot-stopper this summer. However, Petrovic may not be the solution after all. The Serbain says that he is more than open to staying in Alsace next season. 'I am focused on finishing the season in the best way. We'll see after what could happen this summer. It could be a very good option to stay here if Strasbourg qualify for the UEFA Champions League,' he said in a press conference in March. Rennes part ways with Jorge Sampaoli

Jorge Sampaoli is no longer Rennes' head coach, the Ligue 1 side has announced. The 64-year-old manager joined the Bretons last November as a replacement for the dismissed Julien Stéphan but he ultimately failed to turn the club's fortunes around. Rennes' season has spiraled out of control with Sampaoli overseeing five defeats in as many games in all competitions since the turn of the year. Les Rouge et Noir occupy Ligue 1's relegation play-off spot in 16th place. They will host in-form BlueCo-owned RC Strasbourg on Sunday. Sampaoli failed to inject new ideas and the energy he was once renowned for in a Rennes club in a now serious sporting crisis. Get French Football News understands that the Argentine's tactical choices raised many eyebrows within the Bretons, as echoed by Seko Fofana's comments following Rennes' narrow 3-2 defeat last Saturday at Monaco. What's more, the club's executives didn't see eye-to-eye with Sampaoli regarding the players Rennes should target in the winter transfer window. Sampaoli signed a contract set to expire in 2026. The Argentine's counselors met with Rennes this Thursday to find an agreement regarding a contract termination. Former Red Star head coach Habib Beye will replace Jorge Sampaoli in the Rennes dugout. Chelsea left-back Caleb Wiley close to joining Watford on loan

Watford are close to concluding a loan deal for Chelsea left-back Caleb Wiley. Chelsea signed the USA international from Atlanta United for a fee of around £8.5million in July and then loaned him for the season to BlueCo-owned Strasbourg in Ligue 1. The Athletic reported earlier this month that Chelsea have been considering ending his spell at the French club in order to free up a spot for Carney Chukwuemeka to be loaned there for the rest of the season instead. Advertisement Strasbourg already have the maximum three players that you are allowed from one club as they also have midfielder Andrey Santos and goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic from Chelsea. Championship side Watford are one of a number of English clubs to have expressed an interest this month in Wiley, who has made just six appearances for Strasbourg due to a shoulder injury sustained in November. Watford are now in advanced negotiations with Chelsea and are very hopeful of getting a deal agreed soon. ()
