Kirk Hammett Has a Solo Album Coming and 767 Riffs for Next Metallica Record
Metallica's Kirk Hammett has been hard at work. Fresh off the release of a new coffee-table book showcasing his guitar collection, Hammett has revealed that he's prepping his first full-length solo album, and that he has over 700 riffs stockpiled for Metallica's next LP.

'I'm just actively getting ideas together for my [first] solo album,' he told Rolling Stone in a new interview. 'I guess the best way to describe it is it's gonna be a fusion of all sorts of styles…. All of a sudden I'm writing classical progressions, and all of a sudden I'm writing more heavy stuff and all of a sudden I'm writing like a funk thing….'
Hammett released the Portals EP, back in 2022. While that four-song release included instrumental pieces, the forthcoming full-length will feature vocals, though Hammett hasn't settled on any singers just yet.
'There will be vocals because the songs that I wrote scream for vocals this time around,' he said. 'So I'm like, okay, who's gonna be doing the vocals? I don't know. I hope I'm not — I already have too much to do onstage'
Meanwhile, Hammett — a notorious riff hoarder — has precisely 767 riffs stored up for Metallica's follow-up to 72 Seasons. The guitarist said that the band plans to 'take a little bit of a break, not too much of one' after their touring commitments, 'and then we're gonna get right back into it.' He also revealed that Metallica could dip back into their '90s 'Alternica' sound for the new record.
'I have 767 new ones for the next album,' he said of his riff stash. 'It is such a nightmare going through this stuff, too. And I'm the one responsible for all of it and I can't do it…. I don't foresee us starting the next album for at least another year because we're still finishing the 72 Seasons tour.'
Regarding the direction of the new album, he added: 'We might just say, 'Okay, let's go back to the '90s again.' It's not a bad idea! We haven't said that to each other yet. And it's interesting because when Load and Reload came out, there was a lot of backlash. But nowadays I run into fans and they love that era. We play 'Fuel' and people go nuts. We play 'Until It Sleeps' and people know every word.'
Metallica are just under a month away from kicking off the 2025 North American leg of their 'M72 Tour.' Get tickets here.

80s Rocker Details Ozzy Osbourne's Private Funeral Service
80s Rocker Details Ozzy Osbourne's Private Funeral Service originally appeared on Parade. Ozzy Osbourne's private funeral service was the perfect blend of sadness and humor — perfectly reflecting the Prince of Darkness himself according to one attendee. On Thursday, July 31, the Black Sabbath frontman was laid to rest during an intimate service at Welders House, his Buckinghamshire estate where he and wife Sharon Osbourne bought back in 1993. Guests included his bandmates, family, plus other rockers like Rob Zombie, Zakk Wylde, Marilyn Manson and Metallica's Robert Trujillo, who also opened up about the private ceremony. According to Blabbermouth, on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk on Thursday, August 7, Trujillo called the event 'very, very beautiful' despite the sadness. 'Some of the speeches were — as you could imagine — pretty funny. And there were a lot of tears,' he said. He described how Geezer Butler's emotional eulogy brought him to tears, calling it 'an amazing' tribute. RELATED: Ozzy Osbourne's Final Text to a Close Friend Will Break Your Heart The day also had its share of "magical" moments. Rain fell early on in the service, but 'when Kelly [Osbourne] was singing, her lyrics flew — the wind blew her lyrics away. It was almost like Ozzy was having fun with her,' Trujillo recalled. Moments later, as Butler spoke, Trujillo said that 'the sun actually came out… a very magical moment.' Trujillo also recalled how guests shared stories that sparked both laughter and tears. 'There were so many stories… So, it felt like there was a closure from this,' Trujillo said. One day earlier, fans in Birmingham honored Ozzy with a massive public tribute attended by Sharon, their son Jack, and daughters Kelly and Aimée Osbourne. Ozzy's son, Louis Osbourne, was also in attendance. Osbourne died on July 22 from an 'out of hospital cardiac arrest,' according to the New York Times. The attack was linked to acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease, and Parkinson's disease with autonomic dysfunction. Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson's back in 2019. 80s Rocker Details Ozzy Osbourne's Private Funeral Service first appeared on Parade on Aug 9, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 9, 2025, where it first appeared.

Sean Kingston Sentenced to 42 Months in Prison for Fraud Scheme Topping $1 Million
Sean Kingston was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison Friday after he and his mother were convicted of defrauding multiple vendors of more than $1 million in luxury items ranging from high-end watches to a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade. In a filing earlier this week, the 'Beautiful Girls' singer pleaded with the judge to spare him any time behind bars. Kingston, 35, urged the judge to reject the five-to-six years in federal detention recommended by probation officials and sentence him to home detention along with an order to pay restitution. More from Rolling Stone Judge Slashes Sara Rivers' Lawsuit Against Sean Combs Priscilla Presley Sued for $50 Million by Partners She Accused of Elder Abuse Kid Cudi Declined to Testify Against Diddy Twice, Then Had No Choice: 'Hated Every Minute' At the sentencing Friday, Judge David Leibowitz opted to go between the probation recommendation and defense request, handing down his sentence of 42 months in prison and three years of supervised release. The judge set a restitution hearing for Oct. 16. 'We are content that the court did not go with the government's request of five years and sentenced Sean below the sentencing guidelines instead,' Kingston's lawyer Zeljka Bozanic said in a statement sent to Rolling Stone. 'It is important to note that most of the restitution in this case was paid back, even before these charges were brought. Sean is taking this as a learning experience and will continue moving forward in a positive direction. We are actively reviewing all available options, including potential appeals, to ensure his rights are fully protected.' Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, argued in a Monday court filing that leniency was warranted in his case because he had accepted responsibility for his actions, his crimes were non-violent, and several family members depend on him financially. He also cited his history of charitable work. 'Mr. Anderson is deeply remorseful for his conduct and involvement in this scheme and has had time to step back and reflect on his actions and how to make amends,' the filing said. 'Mr. Anderson accepted responsibility in this case and has made all the positive steps toward learning and growing from this situation.' At a separate hearing last month, Kingston's mother, Janice Turner, was sentenced to five years in prison and three years of probation. Turner apologized to the court for her conduct. 'I'm sorry. My intention was to keep my son afloat in this difficult industry,' she said. 'They used him and abused him. I am begging for mercy for me and my son.' Kingston and his mother were indicted last year on charges they engaged in a wire fraud scheme between April 2023 and March 2024. Prosecutors said Anderson reached out to his victims online and negotiated the purchase of high-end merchandise such as the Escalade, jewelry, and a massive, 232-inch LED TV. Officials said Anderson would invite the victims to his high-end homes in the Broward County area and use his celebrity status to lull them into trusting him. When payment was due for the merchandise, Anderson or his mother would text the victims fake wire receipts, according to court filings. When the funds never materialized, the victims filed lawsuits or turned to law enforcement. A jury convicted the mother-son duo after less than four hours of deliberations on March 28. According to Florida outlet Local10, Turner was immediately remanded to federal custody as Anderson cried out, 'Protect my mother.' Kingston burst onto the music scene at age 17 in 2007 when his monster hit 'Beautiful Girls' – a reggae-infused pop single that sampled the 1961 song 'Stand by Me' by Ben E. King – hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Best of Rolling Stone Sly and the Family Stone: 20 Essential Songs The 50 Greatest Eminem Songs All 274 of Taylor Swift's Songs, Ranked
