Ohio State coach Ryan Day receives media award from the FWAA
We media members are a little spoiled, to be honest. We get to cover one of the bluest of the blue blood college football programs, meaning the travel and pampering we receive is pretty dang cool. Another reason we are spoiled these days, though has to do with the head coach running the program. Ryan Day is not only honest and forthcoming, but he is engaging and raw, and about as professional as you can be when it comes to his media duties.
And because of that, Day was awarded the "Super 11 Coach of the Year" by the Football Writers Association of America this week. The award, given out annually, goes to the coach who provides "outstanding media accessibility to their program throughout the season, notably through consistent interview opportunities with the head coach, coordinators, assistant coaches, and players," stated a media release from the OSU program.
Day has not only won a ton on the field, but he has been super accessible and seemingly always willing to provide his time to media outlets, charities, radio shows, and more. And he does it with graciousness, patience, and at times, some humor and tolerance. He is 70-10 during his six years at Ohio State, has a national title to boast about, four College Football Playoff appearances, and two Big Ten Championships to his credit.
"All you have to do is watch the press conferences when it comes to Ryan Day," FWAA president Bill Bender said in the same OSU release. "He takes questions from all outlets on arguably the largest beat in college football – and they often stretch well past what would be an acceptable amount of time to get those questions in."
Congrats to Day and hopefully the on field results continue to happen for one of the best guys and coaches in the business.

On Sunday, Ohio State received a commitment from four-star running back Favour Akih. Advertisement In addition to where they are with Wilder, Wiltfong also sees the Buckeyes in a great spot to land four-star offensive lineman Drew Evers. Wilder is the No. 23 edge rusher and No. 24 California prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Based on the same ratings, Wilder is also a top 250 recruit, coming in at No. 242 overall. The Buckeyes have the fourth-rated recruiting class according to 247Sports. But Ohio State has yet to land a commitment from an edge rusher. Standing at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds, Wilder will play his senior year of high school at Junipero Serra in Gardena, California. Khary Wilder had many other top programs pursuing him but after spending a weekend at Ohio State and talking through the plan with that exceptional coaching staff, the four-star defensive end found his new home. On Tuesday, the four-star defensive end from Gardena (Calif.) Serra committed to the Buckeyes and is not planning any other visits. 'It was just seeing how much of a priority I am for them,' Wilder said. 'Spending time with coach (Larry) Johnson and coach (Ryan) Day, coach (Matt) Patricia and all the coaches, they made me feel like a real priority and like I was really wanted there and that was the place I could call home. 'It was great meeting them. It was great sitting down and hearing their plan for me to dominate throughout my college years, how they see me fitting, my skill set and what I can work on and how I can build on my game to even before I get there and while I'm there, too. 'Coach Johnson was giving me tips and drills on what I could work on now for little things about my game that I could perfect and do better.' Wilder has always had dreams of playing in the pros and the four-star defensive end who shined at the Rivals Camp in Los Angeles and will be at the Rivals Five-Star in a couple weeks is fully aware of all the success the Buckeyes have had across the board especially along the defensive line. He wants to be the next one. 'The NFL has always been the goal, that's been my dream, so seeing coach Johnson and Ohio State's track record of producing top-level d-linemen and NFL defensive ends, just seeing that really motivates me and encourages me,' Wilder said. 'If I'm a priority for them and they want me to come and they see me fitting and playing in their system and they're putting out so many NFL guys at my position, that's one step closer to my dream.' Notre Dame, Washington and UCLA were the other frontrunners but once Wilder finished his Ohio State visit, he knew what he was going to do. 'It was really hard to say no to all of them because they all spent time building a great relationship with me, reaching out, talking to my coaches and my family and making me feel like a priority, too,' Wilder said. 'It was a decision I had to make but I feel very confident in my decision with coach Johnson and coach Day and coach Patricia and their plan for me.'
