Bukit Aman takes over Ipoh murder case amid signs of organised crime involvement
Perak Police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the decision was made after investigations revealed a connection to an organised crime syndicate.
'We have also sought the cooperation of the ASEANAPOL, Interpol, and various other parties to assist with the investigation.
'Initially, it was treated as a local crime, but further investigation revealed cross-border elements involving organised crime,' he told reporters after officiating at the Perak Police Blood Donation Programme, held in conjunction with the 218th Police Day here today.
Noor Hisam said the victim's 31-year-old son, who had been previously detained to assist in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, was released on police bail following the expiry of his remand on Tuesday. — Bernama

Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said the suspect, a Pakistani national known as 'Muhammad Hassan', had approached the victims, all of whom are boys, on the pretext of seeking help, Astro Awani reported. He would then lure the boys to a secluded spot before sexually assaulting them, Iqbal said. The attacks occurred around Section 27 and Section 28 in Shah Alam. 'To date we have received four reports and based on the similarities of the modus operandi we are confident it was committed by the same individual,' he was quoted as saying. Iqbal also said four investigation papers have been opened and police are probing the case for physical sexual assault of a child and for sodomy. The suspect, whose last known address is the Taman Bunga Negara flats in Section 27, Shah Alam, is believed to have fled to the northern states. Iqbal urged those with information on the suspect or the incident to contact the nearest police station or call the investigating officer, Siti Mahanira Mahat at 017-6444895.

Bangladeshi terror suspects held under Sosma, says IGP

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Some of the foreign nationals detained in recent police operations are being investigated under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), says Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail. Khalid said all the suspects were Bangladeshi nationals, according to a report by Berita Harian. 'Some are being held under Sosma. The rest have been deported, while a few remain in custody for further investigation,' he was quoted as saying after a handover ceremony for the director of Bukit Aman's criminal investigation department today. Khalid added that a special press conference would be called soon to provide further details on the investigation and the suspects' status. 'Tomorrow or the day after, I'll call a press conference to explain the actual situation,' he said. A total of 36 individuals were picked up in coordinated raids in the Klang Valley and Seremban between May 23 and June 11, based on intelligence gathered by Bukit Aman's Special Branch. Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reportedly said that five of the individuals were involved in terrorism and had been charged in the sessions courts in Shah Alam, Selangor, and Johor.
