The retired striker never fully recovered from the injury as he did not return to top-flight football after the surgery.
The 39-year-old believes that his surgeon, Prof James Calder, performed an "unnecessary" and "destructive" operation on his ankle.
As a result, Ebanks-Blake says that the procedure caused his top-flight career to end prematurely.
His barrister Simeon Maskrey KC told Mrs Justice Lambert at London's High Court: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
It is also part of the footballer's case that he claims he was not asked for proper consent before the operation.
However, Prof Calder's lawyers have argued that Ebanks-Blake overestimated his skills.
They said he "had an overoptimistic view of his own powers of recovery".
Barrister Martin Forde KC added: "Far from curtailing the claimant's career, the defendant will argue that his clinical skills prolonged the career of a professional footballer, who had suffered a very serious injury."
Ebanks-Blake was a promising forward in his youth days as he represented England at the Under-21 level.
He also played youth football for Manchester United before leaving the club in 2006 for Plymouth Argyle.
Where are they now: The unusual careers of former footballers
The striker spent two years there before joining Wolves and established himself at the club.
He scored 62 goals in 193 appearances for the club, including ten in the Premier League.
Ebanks-Blake helped the club reach the top-flight in 2009 and was part of the iconic strike partnership alongside Irishman Kevin Doyle.
He spent five years at the Molineux before the broken fibula injury struck.
Ebanks-Blake left the club at the end of that season and bounced around clubs until he retired in 2019 at Walsall Wood following another leg fracture.

The three Premier League clubs interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho revealed
Three Premier League clubs remain interested in signing Manchester United outcast Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentina international's spectacular fall from grace has culminated in his exclusion from the first team squad this week as Ruben Amorim's charges returned to Carrington for pre-season training. An already fractious relationship between player and manager reached boiling point at the end of last season when Garnacho was surprisingly omitted from Amorin's starting line-up for the Europa League final. United slumped to a damaging 1-0 defeat against Tottenham, after which Garnacho questioned the wisdom of leaving him on the bench until the closing stages. The 21-year-old was forced to take part in United's post-season tour which immediately followed the end of the Premier League campaign, but it represented only a temporary reprieve. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Garnacho sparked further outrage last month by posting a picture on social media of him wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name and squad number on the back, an act that represented the last straw. Despite his questionable temperament, the winger has a number of suitors, including Villa who have made a slow start to their summer recruitment drive. Rashford and Marco Asensio, two January loan signings who made impacts last term, have returned to their parent clubs. Unai Emery, according to the Daily Mail, is an admirer of Ganacho's and would be interested in bringing him to Villa Park. Chelsea, meanwhile, tried to buy the player back in January and still want to make more attacking signings, despite already having added the likes of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. While some fans may still feel a pang of regret at seeing such a talented player depart for far less than his true market value, former Manchester United star Paul Parker insists there is only one possible course of action. 'Sell the boy,' Parker said when asked Garnacho's future, speaking via 'He needs to move on, needs to understand what football is about. Not a game of golf, and you need players around you. 'He needs to look at his game and what he is rather than what he wants to be – he should want to be Garnacho, not the former United winger that plays for Portugal… and have a bit of humanity. 'I'd say I have better end product than him. He's more concerned about trying to score and what he's going to do after to celebrate than actually scoring a goal. 'His end product is terrible, absolutely terrible. Living off shinning an overhead kick into the top corner against Everton. 'I wonder what kind of player he is. Not full of tricks, not that quick. I'm trying to figure out what his game is, I really don't know what his strengths are.' London rivals Tottenham are also in the mix for a player whose value has dropped dramatically as a consequence of having been frozen out by United. More Trending The Red Devils originally valued Garnacho at around £70million but will have to accept a much lower fee now in order to get him off their books. United are back in action this weekend when they face Leeds United in Stockholm but Garnacho, along with Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, have been told to stay behind. Moment man dumps rats outside Sheffield mosque in hate crime
This is the shocking moment a man releases rats outside a mosque in Sheffield as part of a series of racially motivated hate crimes. The 66-year-old repeated this on three other occasions between May and June. Fowler, of Skelwith Drive, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to four counts of racially aggravated harassment at Sheffield Magistrates' Court. On Thursday (16 July), he was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and banned from going near a mosque for 18 months.

England v Sweden live: Women's Euro 2025 team news as potential semi-final opponent revealed
England are building up to tonight's Euro 2025 quarter-final with Sweden as the holders prepare to face their toughest test of the tournament yet. The Lionesses played Sweden at the semi-final stage of their home Euros three years ago, winning 4-0 at Bramall Lane on a memorable night that included Alessia Russo 's backheel goal as the hosts went on to lift the trophy at Wembley. Sweden will be out for revenge as the teams meet again in Zurich. Sweden impressively topped Group C, beating Germany 4-1 last time out, and have an excellent record of reaching the latter stages of major tournaments in recent years. England, though, will be looking to continue the momentum that has been building since their opening defeat to France. Sarina Wiegman 's side have found form and defeated Netherlands 4-0 and Wales 5-1 to advance to the quarter-finals. Can England now take the opportunity of landing on the more favourable side of the draw? The winner will play Italy in the semi-finals in Geneva, after Cristiana Girelli's dramatic winner against Norway sent the Italians through to their first semi-final since 1997. What is the Sweden team news? Fridolina Rolfo made her first start of the tournament in the 4-1 win over Germany after fully recovering from her injury. Smilla Holmberg was a surprise inclusion at right back but impressed and could keep her place. Possible Sweden XI: Falk; Holmberg, Björn, Eriksson, Andersson; Angeldahl, Bennison; Rytting Kaneryd, Asllani, Rolfö; Blackstenius Jamie Braidwood17 July 2025 08:04 What is the England team news? Sarina Wiegman named an unchanged team ahead of the Wales game, for the first time since the 2023 World Cup, and the England head coach may decide to keep with a winning formula. Ella Toone has been in impressive form since returning to the midfield while Lauren James has looked more comfortable playing on the right wing. England have also been more solid defensively since Alex Greenwood and Jess Carter swapped positions in the back four. Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones both scored against Wales after coming off the bench, so England have plenty of options on the bench should Wiegman decides she needs an impact later in the game. Possible England XI; Hampton; Bronze, Williamson, Carter, Greenwood; Walsh, Stanway, Toone; James, Russo, Hemp Jamie Braidwood17 July 2025 08:02 When is England v Sweden? The Euro 2025 quarter-final will kick off at 8pm UK time (9pm local time) on Thursday 17 July in Zurich. How can I watch it? It will be live on BBC One and iPlayer with coverage starting from 7pm. Jamie Braidwood17 July 2025 08:01 Welcome England face Sweden in the quarter-finals of Euro 2025 as the holders face a rematch of their semi-final three years ago. The Lionesses thumped Sweden 4-0 at Bramall Lane on a memorable night, on their way to reaching the Euro 2022 final and winning the tournament. Sweden will no doubt have revenge on their minds and impressively topped Group C by beating 10-player Germany 4-1 to reach the quarter-finals. Sweden have several players who represent English clubs, including Arsenal striker Stina Blackstenius, and are familiar opponents for Sarina Wiegman's side. England bounced back from their opening defeat to France with comprehensive wins over Netherlands and Wales and have momentum behind them. Jamie Braidwood17 July 2025 08:00
