USA Football selects 2025 flag football roster as NFL considers allowing players to play at Olympics
USA Football has selected its national flag football teams for this season only.
What those rosters — more specifically, the men's squad — might look like before the sport makes its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games remains unknown.
The NFL owners are discussing a proposal this week at their spring meetings in Minnesota that would allow players under contract to participate in flag football at the Olympics.
Should the resolution be approved by at least 24 of the 32 team owners, the league could negotiate with the NFL Players Association, Olympic officials and national governing bodies on the specifics of letting NFL players participate.
Scott Hallenbeck, the CEO and executive director of USA Football, said in a statement the organization is 'thrilled that the topic will be discussed.'
'If participation is approved, we stand ready to provide opportunities for NFL players to be part of Team USA and compete alongside established flag football stars and talent-transfer athletes from other sports,' added Hallenbeck, whose organization oversees the selection and training of the national teams for international competitions. 'We will field the best team possible in pursuit of our ultimate goal of earning two gold medals for the United States in flag football.'
On Monday, USA Football officially announced the 12-athlete rosters for the 2025 men's and women's flag football national teams.
The squads will compete in September at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) Americas Continental Flag Football Championship in Panama. The women's team also will play at the World Games in Chengdu, China, in August.
At the moment, the men's roster features no active NFL players. There are several players who played tackle football in college.
The NFL has been making a big push into flag football in the hopes of increasing youth participation and opportunities for women in the sport. The league played a role in helping the sport gain inclusion into the Los Angeles Olympics.
The U.S. men's and women's squads both won gold medals last season at the IFAF flag football world championships in Lahti, Finland. The men have now won five straight IFAF flag football world championships, while the women have won three in a row.

Baltimore Ravens star running back Derrick Henry has an offer from Adam Sandler, his favorite actor, to be cast in a movie if the five-time Pro Bowl selection rushes for 2,000 yards this season. The offer grew out of Henry's appearance on radio personality Dan Patrick's show this week to discuss his $30 million, two-year contract extension. Patrick told Henry he would get him in a Sandler movie if he made NFL history with a second 2,000-yard season. Two days later, Sandler made the offer himself in a video shown to Henry on the practice field. 'That's my dawg,' a wide-smiling Henry said while watching the video. Sandler, star of 'Happy Gilmore' and the remake of 'The Longest Yard' along with 'The Waterboy,' said he was in a hotel room while filming his greeting for Henry. At one point, Sandler turned the camera to show his bulldog. 'Two thousand yards-plus this year not only gets you in a movie, but we'll have a nice dinner together and talk about Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is for him to grow it,' Sandler joked in a video posted Friday. 'I love ya and keep it up.' Sandler came up during Patrick's interview with Henry because Patrick was hearing a hoodie for the soon-to-be-released 'Happy Gilmore 2.' Sandler had given Patrick the hoodie. 'Can you do me a favor?' Henry asked Patrick. 'If you ever see him again, tell him I'm a really big fan and would really love to meet him one day.' NBA's talks about new league in Europe are continuing, though the process remains in early stages
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The NBA's talks with FIBA and other entities about the process of adding a new league in Europe are continuing, Commissioner Adam Silver said, though he noted that it may take at least a couple more years to turn the ideas into reality. Silver spoke at a league event to unveil a refurbished Boys & Girls Club in Oklahoma City on Friday — an off day for the NBA Finals — and said it's difficult to put a specific timeline on the Europe plans. 'I will say it's measured in years, not months,' Silver said. 'So, we're at least a couple years away from launching. It would be an enormous undertaking. And while we want to move forward at a deliberate pace, we also want to make sure that we're consulting with all the appropriate stakeholders, meaning the existing league, its teams, European players, media companies, marketing partners. There's a lot of work to be done.' Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis announced in March that the league and the game's governing body are finally taking long-awaited steps to form a new league, with an initial target of 16 teams. It had been talked about for years, and decades even on some levels. And since the NBA and FIBA went public with their idea to move forward, talks have gotten more constructive, Silver said. Silver said the NBA has been talking directly with the EuroLeague and with some member clubs about a partnership. It's his preference that the NBA work with the existing league on some level, though it's still too early to say exactly what that means. 'Either way, we continue to feel there are an enormous number of underserved basketball fans in Europe and that there's a strong opportunity to have another league styled after the NBA,' Silver said. About one in every six current NBA players hails from Europe, including Denver's Nikola Jokic (Serbia) and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) — who have combined for five of the last seven MVP awards — along with the Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic (Slovenia) and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama (France).
