INDIANAPOLIS - There was an abundance of committed prospects going through check-in at the Rivals Five-Star so Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney gauges how committed they are heading out of the busy June visit schedule:

The four-star defensive back from Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines has been committed to Michigan since last July but in-state programs are not giving up. Miami and Florida have remained aggressive with Jennings, who had to postpone his Georgia official visit because of his father's passing, and if he ends up visiting Athens again then that would be one to watch as well.

The Saline, Mich., four-star tight end committed to Georgia in November and he reaffirmed his pledge at the Rivals Five-Star. Even though he lives in Ann Arbor, the Bulldogs beat Michigan and others and with Mark Bowman's commitment to USC, Keyes' pledge is even stronger.

UCLA was making a massive push to flip the four-star edge rusher from Lawndale (Calif.) Leuzinger but after his weekend visit to Texas A&M, Moala has shut down his recruitment. He's sticking with the Aggies and won't take any other visits as he'll be an edge rusher in College Station as the Bruins and Washington worked to flip him.

Clemson, Penn State and Michigan were the finalists for Scruggs but once the four-star offensive lineman committed to the Tigers, his recruitment was basically over. The Leesburg (GVa.) Loudoun County standout admitted that his recruitment basically came down to Clemson and Penn State but he 'grew up a Clemson kid' and so it was going to be tough to beat.

The Nashville (Tenn.) Donelson Christian Academy four-star tight end has been committed to Tennessee since last August but Florida is making a major push in his recruitment. North Carolina and Ole Miss are also involved but this will come down to whether the Vols can convince Sneed to stay in the class or whether everything the Gators have been pushing convince the four-star to flip. Florida seems to have a very real shot here.

The four-star offensive tackle from San Francisco (Calif.) Riordan committed to Cal in early June but only a few days later, Tofi took a visit to Oregon and loved it. While Tofi remains committed to the Golden Bears, his brother plays there and he loves the heavy Polynesian culture, the Ducks are definitely intriguing him and has given him a ton to consider.

In early May, Wesley jumped in a pool with Oregon coach Dan Lanning to announce his commitment from the Ducks. Shortly after, Wesley backed off that pledge after not clearing the commitment with those close to him. A few weeks later, the five-star defensive end from Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon has now made a pledge to Texas after his weekend visit. It looks locked in and Wesley very much feels like he's done with recruiting now.

Wise is all business. The four-star interior offensive lineman from Pace, Fla., is a big-time weight lifter with a big-time reputation because he hasn't given up a sack in three seasons (and he predicted he wouldn't give up one in his senior season). Clemson landed his commitment in March and while Oregon especially along with Miami, Alabama and Tennessee impressed him, he's not looking around and isn't playing games with his recruitment.

Well, first, the Red Wings badly need to sign a superstar. While they have a plethora of stars, including Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat, none of them can consistently put a team on their backs. But if Detroit gets its way, it may get that guy in the offseason. Numerous things can go well in the offseason, and several moves could propel Detroit forward. While it was a disappointing season for the Red Wings, there is hope. Overall, several dream scenarios could turn Detroit's fortunes around and put them back in the playoff hunt. The Red Wings sign Mitch Marner in NHL free agency Detroit could be a great landing spot for Mitchell Marner, and the Red Wings must capitalize on this. Currently, he is the biggest NHL free agent on the market and is one of the best players in the NHL. Advertisement Marner had another fantastic season, generating 27 goals and 75 assists for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is a dynamic playmaker who can make anything work on the ice. Additionally, he sets up other players for success. Imagine Marner on the same line as Raymond and Jonathan Berggren? If the Red Wings can snag Marner, they could have a lethal first line. Marner will cost some money. So far, Detroit has approximately $21 million in cap space, so they would have to rework some contracts to give themselves the best chance at signing him. Marner is looking for around $13 million annually, so the Wings would have to find a way to move some pieces around to get him on board. Red Wings re-sign Patrick Kane The Red Wings also must re-sign Patrick Kane. While there are several spots where Kane could land, Detroit has been a perfect fit. Kane had a good season, scoring 21 goals and 38 assists, including 12 power-play goals. While he is 36 years old, Kane still has some elite qualities, especially on the extra-man attack. Advertisement The Red Wings don't need to sign Kane to a long-term contract. Instead, they could offer another one-year deal, or at worst, a two-year contract. Kane is seeking around $3.5 million, which would be a fair deal for what he provided them this past season. Detroit was fourth on the power play, and Kane was a significant reason why. Consequently, letting Kane walk would be disastrous, but signing him would alleviate one of their problems. Detroit strengthens blue line It is no secret that the defense was bad last season. The Red Wings struggled often with keeping up with other teams and surrendered numerous goals. Detroit allowed 3.23 goals per game, ranking 27th in the NHL. Additionally, they were 23rd in high-danger chances allowed by the defense, as they gave up too many scoring opportunities. While Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson were solid on the defensive side of the zone, their teammates were not so great. Advertisement The Red Wings would be smart to add a defenseman through NHL free agency. Of the NHL free agents available, Aaron Ekblad is the best on the market. After everything he has done to help the Florida Panthers make three straight Stanley Cup Final appearances, he is the best commodity on the market. Significantly, he would cost around $7.8 million with a cap hit of $11 million. Plus, he is seeking seven years. If the Red Wings cannot sign Marner, then Ekblad must be the priority. Detroit improves the penalty kill The Red Wings had the worst penalty kill in the NHL last season. Yes, goalie Cam Talbot struggled often, as did backup Alex Lyon. But the defense also allowed way too many shooting chances on the power play, especially against divisional rivals like the Panthers, Maple Leafs, and Tampa Bay Lightning. As noted before, Ekblad would be a good addition to the defense. However, if the Wings are seeking an alternative, they would find a gem in Joel Armia. He was very valuable for the Montreal Canadiens last season, who were ninth on the penalty kill, thanks in part to Armia, who had three shorthanded goals. Padres star Tatis sues Big League Advance in attempt to get out of future earnings deal

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. filed a lawsuit Monday against Big League Advance in an attempt to void the future earnings contract he signed as a 17-year-old minor leaguer that could cost him $34 million. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego County Superior Court, accuses BLA of using predatory tactics to lure him into an 'investment deal' that was actually an illegal loan. BLA misrepresented itself to Tatis, hiding its unlicensed status and pushing him into loan terms banned by California's consumer protection laws, the suit alleges. Attorney Robert Hertzberg said the suit also seeks public injunctive relief to protect young athletes from being lured into such deals. Hertzberg said Tatis received $2 million up front in exchange for 10% of future earnings. Tatis signed a $340 million, 14-year contract in February 2021. Hertzberg said Tatis would also be on the hook for future earnings from any subsequent contract he might sign, unless the deal is voided. 'I'm fighting this battle not just for myself but for everyone still chasing their dream and hoping to provide a better life for their family,' Tatis said in a statement provided by a publicist. 'I want to help protect those young players who don't yet know how to protect themselves from these predatory lenders and illegal financial schemes - kids' focus should be on their passion for baseball, not dodging shady business deals.' Tatis, a son of the former big league infielder, declined further comment before Monday night's game against the Washington Nationals. Hertzberg said that even though Tatis signed the deal in his native Dominican Republic, he is covered by California consumer protection laws. BLA declined comment. 'California lawmakers have put in place serious, straightforward protections against predatory financial activity, but BLA has still disregarded our laws to pursue a business model built on prohibited, deceptive and abusive practices,' said Hertzberg, a former speaker of the California State Assembly and majority leader of the California Senate. Tatis has blossomed into one of the game's biggest stars, although he's been dogged by injuries and an 80-game PED suspension handed down by MLB in 2022. He debuted in 2019 and was an All-Star at shortstop in 2021 before being moved to right field, where he was an All-Star last year.

But the maize and blue have been hoping for a (literal) big target to come into the fold. But it had some fierce competition from an SEC powerhouse. 2026 St. Louis (Mo.) DeSmet four-star Titan Davis has long been between the Wolverines and Alabama, with his only official visits being to Tuscaloosa in May and Ann Arbor this weekend. It appears as if the Crimson Tide knew what was coming as it accepted a commitment from Indianapolis-based three-star DT J.J. Finch, indicating that perhaps Kalen DeBoer wasn't feeling as good about his chances with Davis. Advertisement It turned out to be prescient. Davis commits to the Wolverines Following a solid official visit for Victors Weekend, Davis ended up pulling the trigger joining the maize and blue. Rated the No. 101 player in the country, regardless of position, according to the 247Sports Composite, Davis comes in at 6-foot-4.5, 270 pounds. He is listed as the 13th-best defensive lineman and second-best player in the state of Missouri. He chose Michigan over Alabama (as mentioned), as well as Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, Wisconsin, and others.
