While Muslims devote the holy month of Ramadan to strengthening their connection to their faith, engaging in worship, and self-improvement, Islamic societies face an onslaught of ideological attacks through the content of Ramadan dramas aired on satellite channels. These productions have increasingly become platforms for advancing cultural agendas aimed at eroding Islamic identity and dismantling social values.
This is not mere speculation but a reality reflected in events on the ground. In his Ramadan lectures, the leader of the revolution, Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, has warned of the exploitation of media and art—especially drama—to distort public consciousness and impose foreign ideologies that threaten the religious and social fabric of Muslim communities.
Moral Normalization
Ramadan dramas promote behaviors that contradict Islamic values, portraying vice, betrayal, and illicit relationships as ordinary aspects of life. This deliberate repetition of inappropriate scenes aims to normalize moral corruption, making it seem acceptable, especially to impressionable youth who are easily influenced by what they watch.
What makes this more dangerous is the attractive storytelling style used to push these deviations. Immoral characters are often portrayed as appealing and charismatic, while those who adhere to religious principles are depicted as rigid or backward. These subtle messages gradually weaken societal moral resilience, leading to significant behavioral and ethical shifts.
Westernizing Identity
Beyond moral corruption, Ramadan dramas contribute to Westernizing Islamic identity by presenting foreign lifestyles disconnected from Islamic realities. They often depict characters leading Western-inspired lives, glorifying extreme individualism, and rejecting traditional values as outdated obstacles to progress.
This influence extends to reshaping the image of the Muslim family, promoting fractured family structures and portraying Islamic family values as regressive and incompatible with modernity. Such systematic efforts create a generational gap, making young people more inclined to adopt foreign cultures, ultimately leading to the gradual erosion of Islamic identity.
Destruction of Awareness
Ramadan dramas are not just reshaping moral and social behaviors; they have also become effective tools for manipulating public awareness to serve specific political and ideological agendas. Religious and historical concepts are being rewritten, and Islamic figures are misrepresented to create a distorted consciousness that serves particular interests.
A prominent example is the controversial TV series *Muawiyah*, which sparked widespread debate over its historical inaccuracies. These attempts go beyond falsifying the past; they also influence present and future perceptions, guiding audiences toward perspectives that contradict historical truths and align with Western and Zionist agendas aimed at fragmenting the Muslim world.
Foreign-Funded Productions
Ramadan dramas are no longer just entertainment; they have become a massive industry funded by external entities with clear agendas. Major production companies, backed by Western institutions, manipulate media narratives to align with their policies and objectives.
This directed funding makes it difficult to find productions that genuinely reflect Islamic values, as pre-determined scripts and themes are imposed to serve foreign interests. This explains the recurring focus on themes of moral corruption, family breakdown, and the distortion of Islamic history in ways that benefit the enemies of the Muslim Ummah.
Impact on Future Generations
The dangers of Ramadan dramas extend beyond the current generation, as they shape the awareness of future generations. Children and teenagers absorb the values they see on screen, incorporating them into their cultural and behavioral frameworks. By normalizing moral deviations, these productions contribute to raising a generation with confused identities and weakened ethical foundations.
This effect is exacerbated by the absence of parental and societal supervision. Without guidance or corrective measures, young audiences are left vulnerable to the content they consume, allowing Ramadan dramas to become a powerful tool for altering beliefs and attitudes, ultimately weakening the Islamic nation from within.
Brainwashing Techniques
The influence of these productions is not limited to mere entertainment; they have become powerful instruments of brainwashing, reshaping public consciousness to serve external agendas. Subtle messages are embedded within engaging storylines, making viewers absorb ideas without realizing they are being manipulated.
This technique relies on emotional manipulation, where political and cultural messages are integrated into sentimental or romantic scenes, associating these ideas with positive emotions. This makes their acceptance easier and their impact more profound, a strategy used by major media outlets to reprogram societies according to their own objectives.
Weak Oversight and Parental Responsibility
One of the main factors contributing to the spread of this phenomenon is the lack of proper media oversight and the absence of ethical standards in evaluating content. Most TV series pass through without thorough scrutiny of their content and its impact, making them a dangerous tool used irresponsibly by media regulators.
At the same time, families bear a significant responsibility in protecting their children from these influences. Parents must educate their children about the dangers of such content and teach them to analyze what they watch critically instead of passively absorbing misleading messages.
Facing the Challenge
In the face of these intellectual and cultural assaults, raising collective awareness about the dangers of soft warfare becomes essential. Societies must work to develop alternative media that promote Islamic values and counteract the wave of cultural corruption dominating television screens. Additionally, there must be support for media productions that respect the Islamic identity and reflect the true essence of Islam.
Ramadan is an opportunity to rebuild spiritual and social bonds. It should be utilized to strengthen societal awareness about misleading programs that target Islamic identity. As Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi stated:
"Awareness is the strongest weapon against soft warfare. Those who understand these conspiracies can shield themselves and their communities from falling into the traps of deviation and misguidance."
