Tornado alarms sounding off statewide in Ohio on Wednesday - here are the details
A statewide tornado drill will happen at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday. Sirens in Wayne County will be activated for the drill.
Residents should not call 911 for information about the test. Instead, contact the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency at 330-262-9817 with questions.
Creating a family emergency plan ensures safety and preparedness during severe weather. As spring severe weather season approaches, this is a good time to make or review a safety plan.

Before we get to the nitty-gritty of what to look forward to on the weekend, here are a few NWS facts and figures about record highs, lows and weather events in the greater Northeast Ohio area on dates throughout the remainder of July. On this day in local weather history July 25 In 1934, Mansfield had a record high of 104 degrees In 1953, Youngstown had a record low of 44 degrees In 1900, Akron-Canton had a record 2.3 inches of rain July 26 In 2005, severe thunderstowms moved off of Lake Erie with winds of up to 70 mph. In 1934, Mansfield had a record high of 102 degrees July 27 In 2003, thunderstorms and torrential rainfall in Stark and Summit counties resulted in catastr0phic flooding with damages in Stark County estimated at $52 million. More rain is likely Friday evening with a low of 70 degrees. A chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast for Saturday after 2 p.m. with a high of 88 degrees, according to the NWS, which notes he showers and thunderstorms may be back after 8 pm. Steady rains return Friday with storms, warmer pattern approaches!
Tonight keeps the skies mostly cloudy with a few pop-up showers before midnight. Those showers will dissipate in coverage after midnight, similar to what we saw last night. Temperatures will also drop to similar levels with lows once again in the mid 50s. Any town that sees a good break in the clouds for a couple of hours will be susceptible to fog formation once again, which could be dense in patchy spots. Friday keeps scattered showers and storm chances high, as an area of low pressure follows along our stationary front. These setups occasionally can produce heavy rainfall with bouts of showers and storms moving over the same grounds. The Weather Prediction Center has placed our region in a level two slight risk for flooding with this setup expected. The timing of the low pressure system moving through impacts our risk for storms – an earlier arrival provides less of a risk for storms, but an afternoon arrival provides the risk for a few strong storms. The Storm Prediction Center has placed our region in a level one marginal risk for severe weather with this low pressure approaching – at this point, the low looks to arrive fairly late in our region which will shift the greatest severe weather risk farther east into Virginia but provide an isolated strong storm or two in our region during the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms will be expected though, and in more concentration than on Thursday, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Saturday sees a secondary cold front arrive from the north, providing more scattered showers for the region, especially early. Though we will have a soggy start to the weekend, this front will bring in nicer weather for the second half of the weekend and we will begin to see signs of this late Saturday as a drying pattern begins. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s. A tick removal kit should be a staple in your house this spring Sunday looks fantastic for any outdoor activities! We'll see plenty of sunshine with high pressure in control, along with drier air. It will be the perfect wrap to the weekend with highs in the upper 60s. Monday continues the drier and gradual warmer trend with plenty of sunshine expected and high temperatures climbing up into the mid 70s. Tuesday is also dry with a lot of sunshine expected and highs near 80 – an eastern U.S. high pressure system will allow the dry weather to continue and the heat to build. Wednesday provides one more day of dry weather before the chances for rain increase as we head into Thursday. We will see high temperatures jump up into the low to mid 80s, as a real summer-like feel kicks in! Enjoy the warmth – and the warmer pattern ahead. An isolated risk for a storm is possible late in the day as our next system approaches. Severe Weather Awareness Week 2025 Thursday brings the unsettled weather back into the picture with a Great Lakes low pressure system. Scattered showers and storms are possible with high temperatures in the upper 70s. Looking ahead in your extended forecast, we are shaping up to be much warmer. Though the pattern becomes a bit more unsettled once again Friday and Saturday, temperatures will remain in the 70s – and that warmth does not appear to be going away anytime soon. Thunderstorms tonight begin unsettled pattern ahead
Tonight features increasing clouds with showers and thunderstorms beginning around 9 PM in our western towns. Storms will advance eastward from west to east through the evening hours, weakening as they do so. Though these storms will be weakening, an isolated strong to severe wind gust or two is possible, along with heavy rainfall. Storms will work their way south and east of the region a little after midnight and we will be left with mostly cloudy skies and a few lingering showers with temperatures dropping down to around 60 degrees. Wednesday continues the risk for scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder, as Tuesday's front stalls just to our south. Though the threat for severe weather will be very low Wednesday, an instance or two of heavy rainfall and a few rumbles of thunder will once again be a good bet. With an abundance of clouds, temperatures won't be as warm with highs in the mid 70s. There will be plenty of dry time and the best chance for showers and storms will be in our southern counties closer to the front. Thursday begins on a quiet note as a warm front lifts north around dawn. Our area will be caught between the warm front and the cold front, which will enable moisture to move into the region. With sunshine expected, a typical summertime pattern of scattered thunderstorms are a good bet. One or two of those storms could provide the risk for small hail and strong winds but the threat for severe weather is low overall. Temperatures will warm back up to around 80 degrees. StormTracker 59 Travel Forecast Friday sees a cold front cross during the afternoon, with scattered showers and storms likely under mostly cloudy skies. With the clouds, temperatures will be cooler with highs in the low 70s. Once again, an instance or two of heavy rainfall in an isolated variety is possible in some of the stronger storms. Severe Weather Awareness Week 2025: Thunderstorms and Lightning Saturday provides the risk for few showers still in the morning with a northerly flow, along with a few clouds but we will see late-day clearing. With that northerly breeze in place, it will be much cooler with highs in the low to mid threat for patchy instances of frost will be around in the sheltered spots overnight as temperatures drop to around 40. Sunday promises to be a beautiful day, with plenty of sunshine expected and high temperatures in the mid 60s. Monday continues the beautiful weather with high pressure still in control and highs in the mid 70s. Tuesday introduces the risk for a few late day showers with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Looking ahead in your extended forecast, it's a quiet and warm pattern in store with temperatures slightly above average in the 70s. An upper-level trough will try to spit out a few chances for light showers, but we are not looking at any particular washouts. No signs of Old Man Winter or even chances for frost are expected.
