Anti-migrant protestors gather in Nuneaton over alleged rape of 12yo girl

Yahoo2 days ago
Anti-migrant protestors gathered outside Nuneaton Town Hall yesterday (09/08) chanting over the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl. Two Afghan asylum seekers, Ahmad Mulakhil and Mohammad Kabir, face charges related to the case. Protestors waved Union Jack and St George's flags, carrying slogans like 'This is England.' Warwickshire's Reform UK leader accused police of covering up Mulakhil's immigration status, warning it risks public disorder. Police vowed to maintain order and tackle criminal behaviour during planned protests.

Off-duty Met Police officer jailed for beating up two taxi drivers and trying to arrest them in row over fare

A Metropolitan Police officer has been jailed after assaulting two taxi drivers in a row over a fare before threatening to arrest them. Drunk PC Lee Tilson was off-duty when he punched the first man in the chest multiple times. He attempted to grab the second driver through the window of his vehicle on Springfield Road, Chelmsford. Tilson pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and was sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment at the city's magistrates' court on July 4. Commander Katie Lilburn, who chaired an accelerated gross misconduct panel, said the constable undermined public trust and confidence in the Met. She said: 'PC Tilson was responsible for his own actions. He was drunk. Self-induced intoxication is no excuse. 'It is unacceptable for police officers who are responsible for enforcing the law to break the law in this way, as was observed by one of the taxi drivers at the time of the assaults. 'Furthermore, PC Tilson made his victims aware that he was a police officer and threatened to arrest them.' Tilson was granted early release from HMP Rochester but did not attend the hearing on Friday which found he had breached standards of professional behaviour relating to discreditable conduct. He has been dismissal without notice and placed on the College of Policing's barred list. Essex Police declined to comment. Separately, on August 8 Cmdr Lilburn sacked PC Danny Appleyard who pleaded guilty to drink driving at Luton Magistrates' Court. He was disqualified from driving for 22 months and fined £645. Appleyard says he is appealing his conviction.

Met Police volunteer accused of grooming and raping child after meeting online

A Met Police volunteer officer groomed a child and raped her after meeting her online, a court heard. Prosecutors said the 27-year-old, who was born a man named James Bubb but now identifies as a woman named Gwyn Samuels, asked one alleged victim to perform a sex act in public when she was 12 years old. The court heard the defendant was later forced to hurriedly pull their trousers up after a dog walker went past while the alleged victim performed the sex act. The alleged victim said in a statement to police she did not realise at the time that she was 'being groomed', prosecutor Richard Milne said. According to the first alleged victim, at the age of 13, 14 or 15, the pair met up where her virginity was taken by the defendant and she was choked so she could not speak. Mr Milne told the court the defendant and the alleged victims would be referred to by their biological sex throughout the trial when discussing the allegations. Amersham Law Courts heard that the defendant met the first alleged victim, a 12-year-old, in person at a Christian festival while working there as a steward, and told her they were in a relationship, despite her wearing a 'bracelet pass' for a child. In his opening to the jury on Monday, Mr Milne said the first alleged victim met the defendant on a website called Omegle. The court heard their communications became sexual around a month after first meeting online, with the alleged victim describing their relationship as a 'trauma bond'. After taking the first alleged victim's virginity, the defendant had sex with her on a number of occasions, the court heard. Mr Milne said: 'He would tell (the first alleged victim) that they enjoyed being raped, to which (they) replied no. 'The Crown says this defendant befriended and sexually assaulted (the first complainant) just before her 13th birthday.' He added that the defendant had sexual encounters with her when she was 13 to 15 years old, and then, after a gap, the prosecution says the defendant raped her when she was about 18 years of age. The defendant was arrested on April 30 2024, their flat was searched and officers described it as 'extremely messy and dirty'. The defendant told police in a prepared statement when being interviewed that 'he'd never had any non-consensual sex or act with (the first complainant)', then made no comment to questions, the prosecution said. The prosecution told the court the likely defences will be that no sexual activity took place in relation to the one complainant when she was under age, and in relation to the charges alleged to have taken place when the same complainant was over 16, that the sex was consensual. The second complainant met the defendant on Omegle when she was 18-years-old, the court heard. She said she and the defendant were 're-enacting a rape' and explained she would say no or stop and that was the signal. Mr Milne said: 'Even though they were re-enacting a rape, it meant James needed to stop. 'During the course of sexual intercourse she said she had said no and stop and he had simply carried on.' The defendant used 'officer training techniques' on the complainant, she said in her statement. Mr Milne said: 'He'd perform these on her without seeking her permission, when she was in these holds he'd start touching her sexually.' The defendant has denied one count of rape in relation to one complainant, and two counts of rape, two counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, one count of rape of a child under 13 and one count of assault by penetration in relation to the other complainant. All charges are alleged to have taken place between January 1 2018 to April 2 2024. The defendant, of High Street, Chesham, Buckinghamshire, denies all charges. The trial continues.

Business as usual says takeaway owner after brazen break-in

A POPULAR takeaway on York's most famous street was broken into this morning – but it is business as usual as the owner vows to stay open. The door to Shambles Kitchen was damaged as the culprit or culprits forced their way into the sandwich business in a brazen attempt to steal cash. The incident is the latest in a spree of recent low-level crimes in York city centre. The break-in at Shambles Kitchen is believed to have taken place at about 6am today, Tuesday 12 August (Image: Newsquest) Owner Simon Long believes the break-in happened just after 6am but said nothing was taken as Shambles Kitchen is a cashless operation. The business, alongside its burrito spin-off on nearby Shambles Market, prides itself on serving quality Yorkshire meats which are smoked slowly and piled into fresh artisan bread with home-made marinades, pickles and sauces. Nothing has been taken, not even an iPad or beers from the fridge. It is similar to what has been happening recently. 'We don't take cash. They came in looking for the cash drawer and then just left.' The door to the business now needs to be replaced after the four panels of glass were broken. Simon said: 'It is business as usual. I just need to spend the day finding a joiner. I have been here 17 years, and I have never had a break-in. It seems like these are desperate times. 'Someone walked past this morning from another shop, and it wasn't broken then and someone was in the doorway. For us it is just important to open today.' In April this year, police also attended Shambles to investigate early morning break-ins at Shambles Tavern when items, including a till, were taken, as well as Monk Bar Chocolatiers and Café Nero in nearby King's Square. If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area this morning, or has CCTV footage that could assist police enquiries, contact 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
