Op Sindoor: Tiranga Yatra held in Tumakuru
Tumakuru, May 18 (UNI) A grand Tiranga Yatra was held in Tumakuru on Sunday, featuring a 1,000-metre-long national flag and drawing participation from thousands of enthusiastic people.
Ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, nursing students, youth volunteers, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers marched in unison through prominent parts of the city to the chants of patriotic slogans and songs.
The rally commenced near the SIT Engineering College, attracting large crowds along the route. Streets were adorned with saffron, white, and green, while cultural performances and band displays added to the spirited atmosphere.
Union Minister and senior BJP leader V Somanna inaugurated the procession and addressed the gathering. He commended the Indian armed forces for their valour and preparedness in the face of cross-border threats, stating, 'Our military has given a befitting reply to our enemies, and the entire nation stands united with them.'
Speaking to media persons, Somanna said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exhibited firm and visionary leadership, particularly in matters of national security. 'India will not hesitate to take further action if provoked again by Pakistan. Our government will never compromise on national sovereignty and integrity,' he asserted.
BJP State President Vijayendra Yediyurappa, who also participated in the march, said the Tiranga Yatra symbolised the growing sense of patriotism among the youth and citizens of Karnataka. 'The response from Tumakuru is a testament to the people's faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,' he said.
Actor and Rajya Sabha MP Jaggesh, along with several other senior BJP leaders and local office-bearers, were present at the event. The Yatra concluded with the unfurling of the Tricolour and the singing of the national anthem at a designated public ground.
Party officials said the event was part of a broader national campaign to promote unity, pride in the armed forces, and awareness about India's achievements under the current government.
Security arrangements were tightened across the city to ensure smooth conduct of the rally, and traffic was regulated along the designated route. UNI BDN SSP

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to hold BJP organisational meetings in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as the party works to sharpen its political outreach ahead of the Assembly elections in 2026. The meetings come after the party renewed its alliance with the AIADMK and appointed a new state president as the BJP gears up to challenge the dominance of the state's ruling DMK-led alliance. Party sources said Shah will chair a meeting of the core committee, which includes key leaders of the state organisation, and then speak to office-bearers from mandal, districts and the state. He will also offer prayers at the famous Meenakshi Temple in Madurai before his political programmes, they added. The AIADMK is the senior partner in the alliance, which is likely to include some smaller parties as well, amid the DMK's sharp campaign to paint the BJP as a party working against the state's interests, including by allegedly trying to impose Hindi. The DMK has also been raising the issue of alleged political damage to southern states in a future delimitation exercise due to their success in curbing population growth compared to their northern counterparts. The BJP has insisted that the DMK has been raising these issues as a diversionary tactic to shift focus from the alleged corruption and misgovernance under the rule of Chief Minister M Stalin. Shah has in the past asserted that any delimitation exercise will protect the interests of southern states. Germany reaffirmed its strong support and solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism, Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told an Indian parliamentary delegation that outlined New Delhi's resolve to not give in to nuclear blackmail by Pakistan. As the delegation visited the European country, it conveyed to German political and diplomatic leadership India's unwavering united stand for zero-tolerance for terrorism, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The delegation, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, concluded its visit to Germany on Saturday (June 7, 2025), with the Indian Embassy stating that New Delhi's firm and principled position against terrorism 'found resonance across the top political leadership, decision-makers and think-tanks — reinforcing depth of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.' Earlier on Friday evening, the delegation called on Minister Wadephul, who, building on his recent meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, 'condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Germany's strong support and solidarity with India, in the fight against terrorism,' said a post on X by the Indian Embassy in Berlin. Both sides 'discussed ways to further strengthen & deepen multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to a rule-based international order, based on shared democratic values,' it added. 'We underscored the significant threat terrorism poses to democracy, humanity, and human rights, and expressed grave concern over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,' MR. Prasad said on X after the meeting. 'Emphasising the need for collective action, we stressed that democratic nations must unite to counter this menace.' The discussions also focused on enhancing and deepening the multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership, built on a shared commitment to upholding a rules-based international order rooted in democratic values, he added. The delegation had earlier interacted with key members of the German Bundestag (MdBs) in charge of foreign and security policy, such as Jurgen Hardt, Foreign Policy Spokesperson of CDU, and Tilman Kuban, as well as leading think-tanks in Germany. 'They emphasised India's message of zero-tolerance against terrorism. The delegation conveyed that India's response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack had been precise, measured and non-escalatory. They also explained India's clear position that there is no differentiation between terrorists and those who aid or shelter them,' the Indian Embassy said. During an interaction with leaders and key representatives of the Indian community in Germany, the multi-party parliamentary delegation appreciated the support and solidarity shown by the Indian diaspora in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. The delegation is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The on-ground hostilities from the Indian and Pakistan sides that lasted for four days ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
