Op Sindoor: Tiranga Yatra held in Tumakuru

Tumakuru, May 18 (UNI) A grand Tiranga Yatra was held in Tumakuru on Sunday, featuring a 1,000-metre-long national flag and drawing participation from thousands of enthusiastic people.
Ex-servicemen, NCC cadets, nursing students, youth volunteers, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers marched in unison through prominent parts of the city to the chants of patriotic slogans and songs.
The rally commenced near the SIT Engineering College, attracting large crowds along the route. Streets were adorned with saffron, white, and green, while cultural performances and band displays added to the spirited atmosphere.
Union Minister and senior BJP leader V Somanna inaugurated the procession and addressed the gathering. He commended the Indian armed forces for their valour and preparedness in the face of cross-border threats, stating, 'Our military has given a befitting reply to our enemies, and the entire nation stands united with them.'
Speaking to media persons, Somanna said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exhibited firm and visionary leadership, particularly in matters of national security. 'India will not hesitate to take further action if provoked again by Pakistan. Our government will never compromise on national sovereignty and integrity,' he asserted.
BJP State President Vijayendra Yediyurappa, who also participated in the march, said the Tiranga Yatra symbolised the growing sense of patriotism among the youth and citizens of Karnataka. 'The response from Tumakuru is a testament to the people's faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,' he said.
Actor and Rajya Sabha MP Jaggesh, along with several other senior BJP leaders and local office-bearers, were present at the event. The Yatra concluded with the unfurling of the Tricolour and the singing of the national anthem at a designated public ground.
Party officials said the event was part of a broader national campaign to promote unity, pride in the armed forces, and awareness about India's achievements under the current government.
Security arrangements were tightened across the city to ensure smooth conduct of the rally, and traffic was regulated along the designated route. UNI BDN SSP

Different gods being used by BJP for political gains: VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan

CHENNAI: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai and VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday accused the BJP of politicising religion by organising a Murugan conference in Madurai while ignoring the principles of social justice. Speaking to reporters at the Chennai airport, Selvaperunthagai said, 'When it comes to social justice, Tamil Nadu stands as a model — not Uttar Pradesh or Gujarat. It is the Congress at the national level and the DMK at the state level that have consistently raised their voice for caste-based census.' Speaking about the BJP's Murugan conference at Madurai, Selvaperunthagi said, 'We are not saying that holding a Murugan conference is wrong. But our question is — will the BJP dare to organise a Murugan conference in Gujarat or Uttar Pradesh? Do they have the courage to tell the people there that a deity named Murugan exists?' VCK chief Thirumavalavan while addressing journalists at the airport, said, 'They are using different gods for political gains — Ram and Ganesha in the north, Durga and Kali in Bengal, and Murugan in Tamil Nadu. But Tamil people will not fall for this.. Even Lord Murugan will reject such divisive politics,' he said.

Today in Politics: Amit Shah in Tamil Nadu for BJP organisational meetings; Chirag Paswan to launch Bihar campaign with rally

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to hold BJP organisational meetings in Tamil Nadu on Sunday as the party works to sharpen its political outreach ahead of the Assembly elections in 2026. The meetings come after the party renewed its alliance with the AIADMK and appointed a new state president as the BJP gears up to challenge the dominance of the state's ruling DMK-led alliance. Party sources said Shah will chair a meeting of the core committee, which includes key leaders of the state organisation, and then speak to office-bearers from mandal, districts and the state. He will also offer prayers at the famous Meenakshi Temple in Madurai before his political programmes, they added. The AIADMK is the senior partner in the alliance, which is likely to include some smaller parties as well, amid the DMK's sharp campaign to paint the BJP as a party working against the state's interests, including by allegedly trying to impose Hindi. The DMK has also been raising the issue of alleged political damage to southern states in a future delimitation exercise due to their success in curbing population growth compared to their northern counterparts. The BJP has insisted that the DMK has been raising these issues as a diversionary tactic to shift focus from the alleged corruption and misgovernance under the rule of Chief Minister M Stalin. Shah has in the past asserted that any delimitation exercise will protect the interests of southern states. Chirag Paswan launches Bihar poll campaign With LJP(RV) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan announcing his intention to contest the Bihar Assembly polls, slated for later this year, and forgo politics at the Centre, the party is set to launch its election campaign on Sunday with a rally in Bhojpur district's Arrah. As reported by Liz Mathew, in recent weeks, Paswan has publicly spoken of his wish to return to Bihar, seen as a pitch to take up the position of either the kingmaker, if not the king, in state politics. And the message is not lost on the BJP leadership. While the BJP leadership maintains that Paswan is free to contest from any of the seats his party is allocated as part of a seat-sharing agreement, a section in the ruling party said he was merely trying to take advantage of a sense of confusion in the state unit. Also read | Amid Bihar's shifting sands in twilight of Nitish, Chirag Paswan eyes centrestage Paswan's public statements come at a time when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's rivals believe that his time at the top of Bihar politics is drawing to a close. The LJP(RV) leader is said to harbour the ambition of being the face that can bring together key electoral forces in the state. Speculation is rife that Paswan, who his party wants to contest from an unreserved constituency, might choose an Assembly seat in the Shahabad region comprising Bhojpur and adjoining districts. Cong's Constitution campaign in Goa The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) is set to launch a statewide 'Samvidhan Bachao (Save the Constitution) Yatra' to engage with citizens, listen to their grievances, and highlight the alleged failures and corruption of the BJP government, the party said. The yatra will cover all 40 constituencies of Goa and will be led by key Congress leaders, including GPCC chief Amit Patkar, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao, and several MLAs and MPs. Earlier, the Congress had run a nationwide 'Save the Constitution' campaign from April 25 to May 30. (With PTI inputs)

Germany reaffirms strong support to India in fight against terrorism: FM Wadephul

Germany reaffirmed its strong support and solidarity with India in the fight against terrorism, Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul told an Indian parliamentary delegation that outlined New Delhi's resolve to not give in to nuclear blackmail by Pakistan. As the delegation visited the European country, it conveyed to German political and diplomatic leadership India's unwavering united stand for zero-tolerance for terrorism, especially in the wake of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The delegation, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, concluded its visit to Germany on Saturday (June 7, 2025), with the Indian Embassy stating that New Delhi's firm and principled position against terrorism 'found resonance across the top political leadership, decision-makers and think-tanks — reinforcing depth of the India-Germany Strategic Partnership.' Earlier on Friday evening, the delegation called on Minister Wadephul, who, building on his recent meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, 'condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and reaffirmed Germany's strong support and solidarity with India, in the fight against terrorism,' said a post on X by the Indian Embassy in Berlin. Both sides 'discussed ways to further strengthen & deepen multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership and reiterated their commitment to a rule-based international order, based on shared democratic values,' it added. 'We underscored the significant threat terrorism poses to democracy, humanity, and human rights, and expressed grave concern over Pakistan-sponsored terrorism,' MR. Prasad said on X after the meeting. 'Emphasising the need for collective action, we stressed that democratic nations must unite to counter this menace.' The discussions also focused on enhancing and deepening the multi-faceted India-Germany Strategic Partnership, built on a shared commitment to upholding a rules-based international order rooted in democratic values, he added. The delegation had earlier interacted with key members of the German Bundestag (MdBs) in charge of foreign and security policy, such as Jurgen Hardt, Foreign Policy Spokesperson of CDU, and Tilman Kuban, as well as leading think-tanks in Germany. 'They emphasised India's message of zero-tolerance against terrorism. The delegation conveyed that India's response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack had been precise, measured and non-escalatory. They also explained India's clear position that there is no differentiation between terrorists and those who aid or shelter them,' the Indian Embassy said. During an interaction with leaders and key representatives of the Indian community in Germany, the multi-party parliamentary delegation appreciated the support and solidarity shown by the Indian diaspora in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack. 'The participants observed two-minute silence in solemn memory of the victims and pledged to remain united against the menace of terrorism,' the Indian Embassy said in another post on X. Mr. Prasad said the Indian community in Berlin displayed "immense enthusiasm, drawing inspiration from India's growth story and its unwavering stance against terrorism". "Our visit to Germany was highly successful, with Germany strongly condemning terrorism. Across the six countries we visited, we received great respect and our concerns were given a hearing. #OperationSindoor," he said in an X post. Earlier in the day, the delegation met the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Parliament 'Bundestag', Armin Laschet, and lawmakers Ralph Brinkhaus and Hubertus Heil here. 'Grateful for today's exchange with the Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation. Germany and India share a trusted partnership, especially on global security. We also discussed the brutal 22 April terrorist attack in Pahalgam. I'm deeply shocked. Germany stands with India in the fight against terrorism,' Mr. Laschet said. 'Now it's vital the ceasefire holds and dialogue continues. Peace serves us all,' he said in a post on X. The delegation "conveyed India's unwavering united stand for Zero Tolerance for Terrorism and outlined its resolve to not give in to nuclear blackmail. Leaders noted momentum in India-German Strategic Partnership and joint role in ensuring global Peace and Security," the Embassy of India in Berlin said in a post on X. The delegation leaders 'noted momentum in India-German Strategic Partnership and joint role in ensuring global Peace and Security,' the Embassy of India said in a post on X. The Indian team also held a productive interaction with Omid Nouripour, Vice President of the German Parliament, and deeply appreciated Berlin's strong and unequivocal support for India's principled stand against terrorism. 'They conveyed India's firm response to Pahalgam terror attack and briefed about #OperationSindoor, reiterating the country's zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,' the India mission said. The delegation arrived in Berlin on Thursday from Belgium to convey India's stance. India's Ambassador to Germany Ajit Gupte welcomed the delegation and briefed its members on India-Germany ties, with a focus on expanding strategic partnership and growing cooperation in trade and investment, defence, S&T and mobility. A statement from the Indian Embassy here said that the delegation interacted with senior members of the German Parliament (Bundestag) active in the fields of foreign policy and international affairs and a leading think-tank in Germany, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) on day one. Ending the day's engagements, the delegation also had an interaction with representatives from leading German think-tanks and eminent personalities at a reception hosted by Ambassador Gupte, the statement said. The delegation includes MPs Daggubati Purandeswari, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Ghulam Ali Khatana, Amar Singh, Samik Bhattacharya, M Thambidurai and former minister of state M J Akbar and former diplomat Pankaj Saran. In an X post, delegation member Ms. Chaturvedi said that she finished the visit with a sense of satisfaction that "India stands together, resolute in its fight against terrorism". She thanked senior officials of the governments of the countries that the group travelled for "unequivocally condemning terror". The delegation is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasise Pakistan's links to terrorism. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. The on-ground hostilities from the Indian and Pakistan sides that lasted for four days ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
