Folk artist Frances Grass is back home & happy about it!
After spending eight years seeing the world Wellington folk singer-songwriter Frances Grass is finally back home.
Before jetting off Frances was already a known performer, noted for her simple but expressive lyrics, and intricate finger-picking guitar playing.
She's just release her debut EP 'Thirlestane Road', which you can find on Bandcamp along with the usual streaming services.

A Best of Film Fest Panel on Whanau Marama's Opening Weekend
This weekend has seen the opening in Tāmaki Makaurau of the Whanau Mārama NZ International film festival. The Auckland leg runs until the 10th of August followed by Christchurch, Wellington and Dunedin, and then six more centres nationwide later in August and early September for smaller programmes. From films concerning Jacinda Ardern and Dame Robin White to Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or winner, It Was Just An Accident , the eyeballs and ears of our Culture 101 Best of Fest panel have been rather busy. Our panel considers over a dozen films we've been privileged to see, many world premieres. Joining us first-up is director of Wairoa Maori Film Festival of 20 years Leo Koziol. And, not to be out beaten, Craig Fasi the director for 25 years of the world's only dedicated Pasifika Film Festival Pollywood. Both Leo and Craig have been selectors for the Whanau Marama Aotearoa short film programmes Ngā Whanaunga . And last but not least film producer and former editor in chief of influential film social media platform Letterboxd Gemma Gracewood. Films covered include: Prime Minister , It was just an accident , Grace , Toitu Visual Sovereignity , Workmates , Bati , One on One: John and Yoko , Maya, Give Me a Title , Sex/Dreams/Love trilogy, Not Only Fred Dagg , DJ Ahmet , and The Weedeaters .

How arts patronage has changed over 25 years
culture arts about 1 hour ago As private funding organisation The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi celebrates 25 years of supporting artists, what's changed with arts patronage? In that time The Arts Foundation has awarded over $13 million to artists and organisations. Its Boosted crowdfunding programme meanwhile has raised an additional nearly $15 million for over 200 projects. All through the generosity of people. The foundation began its annual programme of awarding arts laureates in 2000. Briar Grace Smith, Elizabeth Knox, Dame Gillian Whitehead and the late Douglas Wright and Peter Peryer each that year received $30,000. Since then the foundation has continued to innovate and broaden its programmes to attract more patrons. There are many ways to fund the arts: lotteries, government, crowdfunding. Patronage though often involves reciprocity- offering something in exchange - which as the recent case of James Wallace dramatically suggests isnt always saintly. But the arts foundation has created a range of ways to give and get back: its patrons ranging from small crowdfunders to the deep pocketed philanthropists who helped found it. So how has patronage changed in these 25 years? Here to celebrate and reflect Culture 101 was joined by Jessica Palalagi, the foundation's current Kaiwhakahaere managing director, and founding board chair Richard Cathie. The next Arts Foundation laureates will be announced on 17 October with events to follow across the country.
