Padakkalam OTT Release Date: When and where to watch Suraj Venjaramoodu & Sharaf U Dheen's fantasy film online
When the chalkboard turns into a battleground
At first glance, Padakkalam looks like your average campus drama: two professors, one chair, and a college full of students who'd rather gossip than attend lectures. But beneath that seemingly grounded setting lies a wild, almost cartoonish narrative twist: body-swapping sorcery. Ranjith and Shaji, both professors at a college that doesn't seem to have HR protocols, are vying for the head-of-department post.
While students naturally side with the affable Ranjith, the job goes to Shaji. Things take a turn for the bizarre when Shaji, now HOD, starts behaving erratically like… unsettlingly strange. He's not the man they knew. Turns out, he quite literally isn't. Enter Jithin, a student who notices the sudden personality change.
And through a bit of snooping, a few skipped lectures, and a stolen board game, he uncovers the truth: Ranjith has used black magic, courtesy of an ancient Pachisi set, to switch bodies with Shaji. As absurd as it sounds, the tone of the film embraces it with full conviction.
Once Jithin and his gang of misfit friends get their hands on the mystical board game, they set in motion a series of mishaps that spiral out of control, turning their sleepy college into a chaotic playground for the supernatural. What follows is a frantic attempt to reverse the curse, put people back in their rightful bodies, and restore sanity before final exams and reputations go up in smoke.
A cast that carries the crazy
Suraj Venjaramoodu plays Ranjith with Sharaf U Dheen as the unfortunate Shaji. Niranjana Anoop plays a student caught between chaos and curiosity. The supporting roles, especially Sandeep Pradeep (from Falimy), Arun Ajikumar, and the Saaf Bros, provide comic relief that doesn't feel forced.
Directed by Manu Swaraj and co-written by Swaraj and Nithin C Babu, Padakkalam leans hard into the absurd. This Rajesh Murugesan musical is cinematographed by Anu Moothedath and edited by Nidhin Raj Arol.

Cheating case: HC relief for actor Nivin Pauly & director Abrid Shine
Kochi: High court has stayed further proceedings in a criminal case against Malayalam film actor Nivin Pauly and director Abrid Shine , accused of swindling Rs 1.90 crore from a film producer in connection with the making of the upcoming movie 'Action Hero Biju 2'. Justice V G Arun on Tuesday issued the interim stay on petitions filed by Pauly and Shine seeking to quash the cheating case registered at Thalayolaparambu police station in Vaikom on the basis of a private complaint by P S Shamnas, a co-producer of the movie. Police had booked the petitioners under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC, following a directive from the judicial first-class magistrate court, Vaikom. The petitioners contended that the magistrate ordered the registration of the case without considering an earlier police report, which concluded that the dispute was civil in nature. HC found merit in the petitioners' contention. Referring to the investigating officer's report — submitted pursuant to the magistrate's direction — which stated that the matter was civil in nature and that the complainant should pursue civil remedies, HC held that the magistrate could not have forwarded the complaint for investigation under Section 175(3) of the BNSS without addressing the report and conducting a further inquiry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The 5 Books Warren Buffett Recommends You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The court, therefore, stayed the proceedings and adjourned the matter to Sept 11. According to the complaint, Shamnas invested Rs 1.90 crore in April for the production of the movies, but a budget dispute arose. The accused allegedly conspired to defraud him by selling the film's overseas rights for Rs 5 crore to another company, receiving Rs 2 crore in advance. The complaint adds that the parties had earlier collaborated on Pauly's previous film, 'Mahaveeryar', which was a financial failure, and Pauly had promised to pay Rs 95 lakh to Shamnas and agreed that he could be a co-producer in the new film. Shamnas further alleged that although the film's title was initially registered with Abrid Shine Productions, it was later transferred to his company, Indian Movie Makers. However, he claimed the accused concealed the title transfer and sold the overseas rights to another company. Meanwhile, Palarivattom police registered a case against Shamnas based on a petition filed by Pauly, alleging that Shamnas had obtained the title registration of the film using a forged letter purportedly issued on Pauly's behalf.
