Katie Boulter to face Sonay Kartal at Nottingham Open

Sun surprisingly reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year, beating Emma Raducanu in the fourth round, but she has struggled to build on that and Boulter was in control from the start.

'I wasn't feeling amazing coming into this match,' said Boulter, who put aside the disappointment of losing the British number one ranking to Raducanu, on the BBC.
'I felt like it's been quite windy the last couple of days, just been trying to find my rhythm. Just stepping out onto this court, already I feel I'm right back at home. That's a nice feeling to have.'
The 28-year-old, who hails from nearby Leicestershire, defeated close friend Jodie Burrage to win her first title in Nottingham and across the last two years has played six matches against compatriots at the event.
'I've played enough of them now,' said Boulter with a smile ahead of an intriguing contest against British number three Kartal.

'It's just another match for me. I have so much respect for Sonay, she's an incredible tennis player. I've always said to her she's going to pass my ranking.
'I know how good she can be and dangerous. We actually played a really close match on grass quite a few years ago so I know it's going to be an absolute battle.'
Kartal was also comfortable in her opening match, beating France's Leolia Jeanjean 6-3 6-4, while an all-British first-round contest went the way of Fran Jones, who defeated Harriet Dart 7-5 6-4.
A strong showing from the home contingent, meanwhile, was completed by teenager Mimi Xu, who marked her WTA Tour debut by beating American Katie Volynets 6-3 6-3.
The 17-year-old, ranked 350, overcame a gap of more than 250 places and is making a strong case for a Wimbledon main draw wild card.

June 17 - Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre, who guided the New York Yankees to four World Series rings, will be an honorary coach for the American League at the All-Star Game on July 15 in Atlanta, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday. Torre, who turns 85 on July 18, will join current Yankees skipper Aaron Boone's AL staff along with Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. The National League All-Stars are managed by Dave Roberts of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers and his staff. Honorary coaches for the NL are Brian Snitker, manager of the host Atlanta Braves, and Miami Marlins first-year skipper Clayton McCullough, who spent the previous four seasons as the Dodgers' first base coach. Torre, who works for MLB as a special assistant to the commissioner, managed 29 seasons and ranks fifth all-time with 2,326 wins. A two-time AL Manager of the Year, Torre was at the helm for the New York Mets (1977-81), Braves (1982-84), St. Louis Cardinals (1990-95), Yankees (1996-2007) and Dodgers (2008-10). He was voted into the Hall of Fame as a manager in 2014 by the Expansion Era Committee. As a player, he suited up for the Braves in both Milwaukee (1960-65) and Atlanta (1966-68), including five straight All-Star selections from 1963-67. Vogt, who played for the Braves in 2021, was voted the AL Manager of the Year in 2024 after leading the Guardians to the Central Division crown and the American League Championship Series in his first year. --Field Level Media

Emma Radcanu's stalker 'caught by Wimbledon organisers attempting to buy tickets for this year's event' - months after being given a restraining order in Dubai

The man who was handed a restraining order this year for stalking Emma Raducanu at the Dubai Open has reportedly been caught applying for ticket's to this month's Wimbledon. The British No1 was left in tears during her second-round match against Karolina Muchova after spotting the man in the stands. The man had been displaying 'fixated behaviour' and had handed Raducanu a letter and asked for a photo earlier that week. A former member of Raducanu's coaching team also revealed that the man had been following the 22-year-old to a number of events in the wake of the Australian Open before he was ejected from the Gulf State tournament. The man's name was then circulated to tournament organisers across the WTA tennis circuit. But as per the BBC, his name was flagged by the All England Club's security system indicating that he had attempted to gain entry to the Championships via the public ballot. More to follow.
