Kieran Bowie at the double as Hibernian add to Steven Pressley woes

The Scotland forward notched twice in the space of three minutes to give the Easter Road side the initiative. Dundee, bidding to ignite some positivity following a demoralising Premier Sports Cup group-stage exit that included defeats by lower-league sides Airdrie and Alloa, hit back swiftly through Finlay Robertson. But Hibs – who arrived on Tayside on the back of a gruelling 120-minute encounter with Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday – were able to see out the second half in relatively comfortable fashion. Pressley, whose appointment in June was widely deemed underwhelming among supporters even before their cup calamity, included four summer signings in his starting XI but talismanic captain Simon Murray missed out through injury. Hibs boss David Gray opted to make just one change to the side that started the agonising extra-time defeat by Midtjylland despite having another testing European fixture to come away to Partizan Belgrade in the Conference League this Thursday. The Easter Road side had the majority of the ball in the early exchanges and made the breakthrough from their first clear opportunity in the 28th minute. It came with an element of fortune as Dundee got themselves in a mess trying to deal with a Jordan Obita cross into the box and the ball broke kindly to Bowie, who drilled a low angled finish past Jon McCracken from 10 yards out. Three minutes later, Bowie struck again. Jack Iredale's ball over the top released Obita who drove into the box and saw his effort blocked by McCracken, only for Bowie to follow up and drive home the rebound from a similar position to his first goal. Dundee were gifted a way back into the game in the 36th minute when a slip from Iredale allowed Ashley Hay to dispossess him and cut the ball back for Robertson, who fired home from just outside the six-yard box. Dee defender Luke Graham just failed to connect with a tantalising inswinging delivery from the left in the 59th minute. It was Hibs, however, who looked the likelier side to add to their lead in the closing half-hour, with substitute Josh Campbell seeing a header brilliantly saved by McCracken before the midfielder threatened with another couple of attempts after being picked out by corners from fellow substitute Jamie McGrath.

Rangers players needed to hear home truths from Martin, insists Dowell

KIERAN DOWELL has revealed that Russell Martin told his Rangers failures to take a long hard look in the mirror after blowing it at Fir Park — and admitted some harsh truths are maybe what some of them needed. The Ibrox side drew 1-1 at Motherwell after a James Tavernier opener was cancelled out three minutes from time by Emmanuel Longelo. Martin claimed his side didn't deserve a point given the standard of performance and lashed out over egos in the team as well as a lack of mentality and fighting spirit. Dowell didn't argue when told Martin had accused players of going into self-preservation mode and stopping looking for the ball when things get tough. Admitting similar was said in the dressing-room, he admitted: 'The manager's been here five or six weeks now and that's what he's noticed. It's not been a successful time for the club and maybe we needed those sort of home truths. 'It's not for me to say. It's the manager's opinion. He said to us: 'Look yourself in the mirror. If you think that was you, have a look at yourself'.' Asked about Martin feeling hurt by the display, Dowell replied: 'We all were, but he was right. We weren't good enough for this club. The quality of players we have, compared to (Motherwell), we shouldn't be throwing that game. 'We had a good start and then didn't put the game to bed. We almost sleepwalked into conceding that equaliser and probably deserved it in the end. 'They threw a lot more at it. They got a lot more aggressive in the second half and probably should have scored sooner. 'We didn't take the initiative to get that second goal. That's what we have to learn from, fast. 'It's not been the most successful period for the club and it's down to us as players. We've obviously had a few managers now and it's up to us to prove it.' Rangers fans were angry after the final whistle, but Dowell believes the team can bounce back. 'It's a long season, but I definitely understand the frustration. It's not to say we can't recover, definitely not. 'It's not a big blow. It's a reality check.'

Oliver Antman to Rangers transfer details emerge as fee and contract for Go Ahead Eagles man 'revealed'

Russell Martin is closing in on his latest signing with the wide man set to join the Ibrox ranks. The contract offer on the table to Oliver Antman at Rangers has been revealed, according to one report. ‌ Russell Martin is desperate to add strength to his wide areas and the Rangers Review report that he is about to get his wish with a fee also thrashed out with Go Ahead Eagles. ‌ The state that the Ibrox side will shell out an initial £3million payment and that deal could rise by a further million if all add-on clauses are hit in the coming seasons. ‌ They claim a four year deal is on the table for the 23-year-old with an option of a further season that would keep Antman tied to the club until 2030. It's been a busy summer to date for Rangers and more activity is expected in the coming weeks both in and out before the transfer window slams shut. Djeidi Gassama - who grabbed the Champions League headlines in both games with Panathinaikos - and Mikey Moore have both arrived recently with Antman joining the winger ranks in Govan. Boss Martin was denied a winning start to the Premiership campaign with the performance and result against Motherwell leaving him raging as he ripped into his team in an astonishing TV blast. Skipper James Tavernier scored the opener with a first half header but that was cancelled out with just minutes to go as Rangers were once again denied on the opening day. ‌ Focus now turns to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League as the Light Blues bid to overcome hurdle two of three in their quest to reach the big time and bag the £40million bonus that comes with qualifying for the competition proper. Ahead of that clash, they look set to be boosted by the arrival of Antman.
