The Dallas Mavericks have secured the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft in scenes that have left basketball fans furious.
The Mavericks entered the Draft Lottery with a 1.8 per cent chance of securing the top spot, but it was their ball that won out.
The pick comes months after the organisation severed ties with superstar Luka Doncic in a move that sparked fierce backlash not only among the team's own fan base but across the league.
It is the first time in franchise history that Dallas moved up in the lottery after having only an 8.5 per cent chance of making the top four.
Conspiracy theories the NBA Draft had been rigged immediately started taking off with fans furious the first overall pick was heading to Dallas despite their lowly odds at winning it.
Basketball fans are now convinced the league stepped in to provide the top pick to the Mavericks to help soothe the fan base over in the wake of the Doncic trade.
ESPN reporter Shams Charania said in the aftermath: 'This is unbelievable.'
Lakers Nation wrote on X: 'So the Pelicans trade AD to the Lakers and then get the No. 1 pick. Now, the Mavericks trade Luka to the Lakers ... and then get the No. 1 pick.'
The Ringer's Bill Simmons wrote: 'Oh get the f*** out of here. Come on.'
Current NBA player Kevin Love wrote: 'There is no f***ing way.'
Pardon My Take added: 'The Mavericks picking first overall ... NBA rigged.'
Bryson Wright wrote: 'We all know the lottery is rigged but this is on a different level. Did the NBA promise them the 1st pick to get Luka to LA.'

The Mavericks can now set their sights on adding the consensus first overall pick in 18-year-old Cooper Flagg.
The Duke standout has been described as the 'safest No.1 pick in ages' by Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor.
Flagg is coming off an impressive freshman season at Duke which saw him average 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 blocks per game.
'It's his growth as a shot creator that will decide if he reaches his All-Star floor or soars to his Hall of Fame ceiling,' O'Connor said.
As was the case with now San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, the worst teams in the NBA had all the reasons in the world to tank as hard as they could down the stretch to give themselves the best chance of drafting Flagg.
The 18-year-old has been generating hype for a number of years now, with Kevin Durant even declaring in an interview with Boardoom that Flagg can be 'one of the top players in the league for 15 years'.

‘Robbed': 16-year-old stripped of state championship over fire extinguisher act

The moment that 16-year-old Clara Adams' State Championship dreams went up in smoke was captured on video, as the controversy surrounding the teen's post-race celebration has made headlines across America. Adams, a sprinter from North Salinas High School in Salinas, California paid homage to a celebration made famous by American sprint icon Maurice Greene by taking a fire extinguisher from her father and spraying her spikes after winning the 400-meter event Saturday. CIF officials didn't take too kindly and disqualified her, stripping her of her state title. The teen could be seen standing in the infield of the track away from other participants as she bent over and started extinguishing her shoes with the fire extinguisher. Several people who appeared to be CIF officials looked on, with one almost immediately approaching her after the celebration and leading her away. The celebration was ultimately deemed unsportsmanlike and she was disqualified. The decision to disqualify Adams came moments before she was slated to run in the 200-meter event, and due to the ruling she was not allowed to run the race, which she had been of the favourites to win. A devastated Adams spoke after the disqualification after the officials handed down the decision. 'I don't know what's going through my mind right now,' Adams told the Mercury News. 'I'm disappointed and I feel robbed. I am in shock. They (officials) yelled at me and told me, 'We're not letting you on the podium.' They took my moment away from me.' Adams' father, David, insisted that 'the opponents were gone' when she used the fire extinguisher and said that CIF officials 'made it about them.' 'The crowd went crazy, they loved it, the CIF booth went crazy, they loved it. But those few guys in those jackets took offence to it, didn't like it, and made a decision based off emotions,' he told the TV station. Adams does have one big supporter in her corner, with Greene himself indicating that he was happy that she did his celebration and felt that she should get her title back. Greene used the celebration when he won the 100-meter dash in 2004 at the Home Depot Invitational. 'When I heard, cause it happened, and then people just started calling me 'This girl who just ran the 400 did your celebration,' I was like huh? What?' Greene said. 'If it was away from everyone and not interfering with anyone, I would say reinstate her.'

Livvy Dunne ends dazzling Sports Illustrated Swimsuit runway turn with a split

Olivia 'Livvy' Dunne showed off her gymnastics prowess Saturday during the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit runway show at the W South Beach in Miami, where she capped off her walk with a split at the end of the runway. The former LSU gymnast and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model rocked a sultry one-piece with cutouts for one turn down the runway and switched things up to a white crop top and animal-print bottoms for the other. The 22-year-old Dunne made her cover debut for the iconic publication this spring, which she called a dream come true. 'That is crazy,' Dunne said upon learning she landed the cover. 'I am a Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model… Are you kidding me?' Dunne, who made her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit debut in 2023, appears on one of the four covers for this year's edition, including Lauren Chan, Salma Hayek and Jordan Chiles. In a behind-the-scenes video from her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit shoot shared in May, Dunne revealed she was grappling with a knee injury at the time. 'Fun fact, I was shooting on a fractured kneecap, so poses like this and the cover shot kind of hurt, but it was honestly so worth it,' she said in the Instagram clip. Dunne confirmed in March that she had been 'dealing with an avulsion fracture of my patella,' which sidelined her from participating on the floor of LSU's senior night festivities. 'It absolutely breaks my heart to not get the opportunity to compete in the PMAC one last time. Tiger fans, you've been so good to me! Thank you for the endless support and as always Geaux Tigers! – Liv,' she wrote on social media at the time. Dunne, a national championship-winning gymnast with the Tigers, bid an official farewell to the sport she's loved all her life in April. 'Gymnastics, you have filled my heart and will always be a part of me,' she shared in a heartfelt Instagram video. 'You shaped me into the person I am today.' Dunne has given her 13 million fans across Instagram and TikTok intimate looks at her highs and lows over the years, including troublesome moments with supporters. In a TikTok video shared over the weekend, Dunne detailed how autograph-seekers have tracked her down at airports and fears she is 'being stalked.' 'They know time, place, airport, everything!!! Stay safe,' she captioned the video. As Dunne's star has continued to rise, fans have paid particular attention to her personal life. She and Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes have been together for more than a year, with the ex-LSU baseball star confirming the relationship in the summer of 2023.
