Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway confirmed to be moving to Australia for three year university degree
Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra will move to Australia in August to begin a three-year undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, the palace has confirmed.
Ingrid, 21, is the daughter of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit and is second in line to the Norwegian throne behind her father.
On Monday, Norway's royal palace confirmed the young royal, who recently completed military service, will commence undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney.
'Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra will begin her studies at the University of Sydney in August, enrolling in a Bachelor of Arts program,' the Norwegian Palace said in a press release.
'She has chosen a three-year degree with a focus on international relations and political economy.
'The Princess will be studying full-time and reside in a student residence on campus. Her Royal Highness looks forward to dedicating herself to her studies in the years to come.'
The future Queen of the ancient Norwegian monarchy is the god daughter of King Frederik of Denmark, the husband of Aussie-born Queen Mary.
The Norwegian Princess is only the latest in a long line of international royals who have completed part or all of their education in Australia.
Thailand's reigning King Vajiralongkorn spent several years studying in Australia in the 1970s, while King Charles spent two terms at Geelong Grammar School in 1966.
Ingrid's decision to study on the other side of the world also comes after a rollercoaster year for the Norwegian royal family.
The country was scandalised last year after Ingrid's half-brother Marius Borg Høiby was arrested on a string of sex assault charges - including two rapes - last August.
Mr Høiby is the 28-year-old son from Crown Princess Mette-Marit's previous relationship before she married into the Norwegian monarchy and has no role in the royal family.
Nevertheless, it is understood Ingrid is close with her elder half-sibling, which has reportedly created anxiety within the palace.
It is unclear if the geographical distance from her half-brother, who has denied all charges, influenced Ingrid's decision to move to Australia.
The Norwegian monarchy has also faced scrutiny over Ingrid's colourful aunt Princess Martha Louise, a self-professed clairvoyant often cited as the direct cause of an uptick in republicanism in Norway.
Martha Louise's second wedding to an American Shaman last year will reportedly be the subject of an upcoming Netflix documentary.

Shortly after the release of season one, and amid persistent allegations of Meghan being 'difficult' to work with, a staffer spoke to People magazine about their experience, insisting she was 'warm', 'approachable' and 'genuine' throughout production. 'She made sure everyone felt included, from Netflix executives to our director to every PA on set. No one was left out,' he said. 'Most of the time, we're expected to fade into the background, to be invisible. But in this show, we were part of it. We were included. It was a very unique and refreshing experience.' Meghan was also open to learning throughout the process, according to the crew member. 'She didn't seem too married to any one idea. If something didn't go perfectly, she was fine with it and moved on to the next thing,' he said. The staffer added that she was 'a great hostess' and that there were occasional set visits from Prince Harry and the couple's two children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. 'Whenever Harry visited set, he was always super polite and friendly. But it was clear he wanted this to be Meghan's moment to shine,' he said. 'She was super attentive and doting on [the kids]. New police search begins in hunt for missing Madeleine McCann

Portuguese and German police on Tuesday started a new search in the hunt for missing British toddler Madeleine McCann -- 18 years after she disappeared while on holiday with her parents. Madeleine, aged three, disappeared from an apartment in Praia da Luz in southern Portugal, sparking an international campaign to find her and unprecedented media coverage. A previous search of a lake near the resort two years ago yielded no results, but on Tuesday investigators were back in a part of nearby Lagos to hunt for clues. Several police vehicles were seen driving down a dirt road and a Portuguese police spokeswoman confirmed that the search had begun, with about 25 German investigators present. The new searches are expected to continue until Friday and are being conducted at the request of German authorities investigating Christian Brueckner, a convicted rapist who is suspected of having killed Madeleine. According to the British tabloid The Sun, investigators are equipped with ground radar technology that can scan the ground down to 4.5 metres (15 feet) in depth. The area includes a cottage where Brueckner was living near the Ocean Club resort and undergrowth. The area is dotted with wells and ditches, it added. A mobile phone registered in Brueckner's name was traced close to the family's accommodation on the night Madeleine went missing. - Determined - Brueckner, 48, is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for the rape in 2005 of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz. His sentence is due to end in September. He was acquitted in October 2024 in Germany at trial for two sexual assaults and three rapes committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. The German authorities in 2020 said they were convinced of Brueckner's involvement in Madeleine's disappearance, which gained worldwide publicity and has seen several false leads. He has not been charged in connection with the McCann case. Brueckner, who according to German media had a string of previous convictions, including for sexual offences, assault and theft, worked as an odd-job man during his 10 years in the Algarve, but also burgled hotel rooms and holiday apartments. At the time of Madeleine's disappearance he was living in a camper van. A former neighbour in Portugal told Sky News television in 2020 that he was "always a bit angry, driving fast up and down the lane, and then one day, around 2006, he just disappeared without a word". He returned to Germany in 2007 -- the year Madeleine disappeared -- settling in Hanover, but still spent time in Portugal. On the 18th anniversary of their daughter's disappearance on May 3 this year, Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry McCann said they were still determined to find out what happened. "The years appear to be passing even more quickly and whilst we have no significant news to share, our determination to 'leave no stone unturned' is unwavering," they wrote on the website.
